Hey Everyone,

First of all, yes, I know this sounds more like a thread that Zero would write (sorry to disappoint anyone--I'm sure he could write it a lot better! :D)

The inspiration for this thread is the fact that my beloved Spidey t-shirt that says, "The Original Webmaster--On The Web Since 1962" is about to make its final swing, and I have to find an even cooler one to replace it. My brother and I have this unspoken war over Who Has The Best Spidey T-shirt at family functions, and of course, I always win (in my own mind, at least.)

Who do you think made the best Spider-Man? (Please give me a moment and I'm going to make a public poll. You can choose more than one answer, and just for fun, we'll be able to see everyone's choices.)

I am including 4 actors, including my personal favorite--Dan Gilvezan, the voice actor who played the version I grew up with on the Saturday morning cartoon, "Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends." Mr. Gilvezan was also the voice of the ORIGINAL Bumblebee (who was also a favorite of mine) on the ORIGINAL 1980's Transformers cartoon!

As for live actors... One of the reasons I've always loved Spidey is because Peter Parker was someone I could always relate to--just this nerdy, dorky kind of guy who would have never fit in with the popular crowd--and I thought Tobey Maguire did a pretty good job of portraying that. He was handsome, but had very believable "lovable, but dorky" air about him and was very down-to-earth.

I really wanted to like Andrew Garfield (I loved the scene where Spidey was wearing a firefighter's hat and helping to carry the hose with the other firefighters), but something about his portrayal was just a little off to me. I couldn't get into all the skating scenes because I always saw Peter Parker as being a bit clumsy and awkward (and a whole lot like me), which is why I liked him so much in the first place. I just couldn't get into a Spidey who was already somewhat cool even before he got his powers.

Speaking of which, this brings me to Mr. Tom Holland. Oh my goodness. I realize this is of no fault to Mr. Holland, but seeing a version of Spidey who could be my son (as well as an actress my age for "May"... Not Aunt May, but just May ) was more than a little unnerving.

And perhaps my old age has made me cynical, but as far as I was concerned, Tom is just way, WAY to pretty to ever be the real Peter Parker. :( I need to see someone who at least LOOKS like he'd be targeted by bullies...

To my beloved 1980's Cartoon Spidey... I miss you :(... and your amazing friends.

How about the rest of you? Which portrayal of Spidey did you like best, and why? (And of course, feel free to list any others who aren't in the poll as well.)

Please feel free to go into detail about why you felt your choice made a good Spidey. Feel free to mention other animations/versions/comic story lines as well.

I'm looking forward to having a bit of light-hearted fun, and I might even learn something new about my favorite web-slinging hero. :)

I'd have to say that out of all of them, Tobey Maguire would have to be my go to guy for Spiderman.....in the first movie he just truly looked like in the beginning the kind of guy who would get bullied and was the nerd next door. They could have completely done away with the third movie, because one and two were great movies. The newest Spidermans, they just don't have the punch with me.

Oh!

I hope the people who vote for someone else other than the ones listed will tell us who, why, and what they were in (or why they wish that person would be chosen.)

It might give me some new Spidey adventures to check out (well, new to me at least), and maybe even a few favorites.

I remember seeing some episode of Ultimate (animated) Spider-Man vs., or with Deadpool (it was hard to tell if they were working with, or against, each other, lol) and it was hilarious. :)

I think Batman needs to play Spiderman. I just think it would be most conducive and efficient if the human superheroes stuck together. The potential could be endless if Batman were to be both the one studying Arachnology and its options, while also putting his scientific premises into experiential practice. You pick the actor - its a dice throw at best. A deep voiced Spidey? well I am not sure about that.

The latest movie I was a bit annoyed in the first few minutes however, I felt like I was in a junior-high locker room .... Thank goodness it got better as the movie progressed. Maybe I am just too old - NO! NEVER!

Tobey Maguire was best, but only in the first movie. He was a weenie kid who became Spidey with his head screwed on straight. The second movie started to go sideways, and by the third, it was as bad as the '90's Batman movies. At least the graphics were better.

I forgot to mention that the other reason I liked the Tobey Maguire movies (the first two at least... and I agree... Let's not even talk about the 3rd one, lol) is because I thought they did a good job of portraying Doc Oc (and he was always one of my favorite bad guys in the Spidey Universe.)

In addition, I LOVED J.K. Simmons' portrayal of the infamous J. Jonah Jameson, and as much as I love Spidey, I could have watched an entire movie with just Mr. J (Cubed).

Lol... This was a great post, slave. :) I think that's part of what killed this last movie for me--seeing an actor (Michael Keaton) who defined his career as Batman... then appear as the villain in a Spider-Man franchise--something just ain't right with that picture (did it bother anyone else?)

(To me, it was almost as bad as having Chris Evans go from playing The Human Torch... to Captain America.)

I could never relate to Batman. I mean seriously... Do I LOOK like I have anything in common with a billionaire playboy? (Not.) So another reason why I found Peter Parker so appealing and someone I could relate to is because he was a misfit from a poor family. The Spidey I knew made his own things out of necessity and innovation--he didn't have some mysterious billionaire supplying everything.

I always loved the depictions of Spidey drawing, designing, and sewing his own costumes. It makes me think of how I've always wanted to make cargo shorts with a double-waterproof pocket for one's phone and electronics, in case someone gets caught in a rainstorm--or drenched on the latest superhero theme park ride. :)

As a kid, in the back corner of my mind, I used to like to think... If I'm making designing and making my own "costume" (just like Spidey!), could a few slings of the web be all that far behind? :)

I never knew the name of the guy who voiced Spider-Man when I was a kid, till I read this poll. It does bring back memories of sitting in front of the TV in my pajamas, eating cereal. Count Chocula...... I miss Saturday morning.

As far as the movies, so far Toby McGuire has been the best, although the 3rd one, I couldn't get into. Super Heros having an identity crisis doesn't appeal to me.

Tom Holland isn't bad, I'll give him time. As I remember, Peter Parker was just a kid.

It has to be Christopher Daniel Barnes. The 1994 Spider Man was just too cool. The whole Madame Web thing did get a bit bizarre, but it culminated well. And the voice acting (and recording technology, from the sound of it) was just so much better than the older Spider Man cartoon.

I think the scripts were better too. There's one scene where Spider Man is going up against the Shocker (not to be confused with Electro - Shocker is not half as bad as Electro) and Shocker is throwing some bolts and Spider Man says, "That's it, let it all out! Boom! BOOM! Ahahahaha!" It was just perfect sarcastic, mocking delivery.

This is a big part of why I like asking other people about their preferences--so I can find other variations that I might also like.

I wonder if this is the same Christopher Daniel Barnes who voiced Eric in Disney's The Little Mermaid (also a favorite back in the day.) I know he also used to be credited as C.B. Barnes and was in a few sitcoms as well.

I am definitely going to have to check this version out! :)

Is Tom Holland Gay?

I have seen a few references to this on other biography sites about Tom
I am devastated and despair for another soul lost to Hollywood.

I don't know, but I suspect the person in the pic is one of his brothers. They favor each other too much.

I had also been wondering if it might be his stunt double.

I did a Google image search for the picture Waggle posted and it said that this is Tom's lifelong best friend.

Being a good-looking guy in Hollywood, I'm sure there will always be rumors. But it's his own personal business, and we can still pray for him anyways. :)
