Can we just talk about fad words for a sec...

Who decided it was cool to use words like bae and cray?
Just to name a few..

Bae
Cray
On fleek
Snack
Swag
Thot
YOLO
Turnt
Rekt
Ratchet
I'm positive there are many many more...

I try to imagine being on a date and my guy looking at me and saying " Bae you lookin like a snack today... dem eyebrows on fleek" You talking about ruining a date... I'd be out of there quicker than he could blink his eyes..

So tell me... do you use these new fad words ? Can you think of more fad words ? What's the best fad sentence you can come up with?

I can’t even speak this language...no clue what half of those words even mean. Turnt? On fleek? I feel like I’m not old enough to have a legitimate excuse for not knowing how to use these words, and not young enough to have a legitimate excuse for using them.

I believe "turnt" means drunk and "on fleek" is the equivalent of saying just right or perfect.

If it wasn't for memes I'd not know these words existed with exception of a few I've heard a few teens say.

A transcript from a Calvin and Hobbes cartoon:

CALVIN: "Hey Dad, know what I figured out? The meaning of words isn't a fixed thing! Any word can mean anything! By giving words new meanings, ordinary English can become an exclusionary code! Two generations can be divided by the same language!

To that end, I'll be inventing some new definitions for common words. So we'll be unable to communicate. Don't you think that's totally spam? It's lubricated! Well, I'm phasing."

DAD: "Marvy. Fab. Far out."

Someone once told me that my eyebrows were "on fleek", and I had no idea what that meant.

I figured it was a typo, and for some reason, I thought he meant to say that my eyebrows were "on fleeT". Not that this interpretation was any better... But I actually thought he meant "on fleet", as in a fleet of starships... Like as in a reference to Star Trek.

Basically, I thought he was telling me that my eyebrows looked like Mr. Spock's--and I wasn't sure if that was a good or bad thing.

The one I could never get was "sick"-- as in,"Yo, she looks totally sick!"

And of course I'd be thinking, "She looks just fine to me..."

Sigh. I don't like admitting that I'm getting old. But, I think I'm getting old.

Back in the day, I also had a phondness for writing out "phat" when I wrote a letter when that was a big phad...

It was just for phun, but it totally drove my phriends (or was that phiends) crazy. :p

Why am I suddenly getting visions of all the younger folks out there on the forum laughing at us... (Jonah, I would totally "like" your post... If I had any clue as to who that guy was and what the reference is.)

Oh well.

I guess I won't dwell on it too much.

After all, it's almost time for the most exciting part of my day anyway.

The villain of Samurai Jack, cartoon from early 2000's. The voice actor was amazing but unfortunately passed away, so a lot of his best quotes have been immortalized by meme culture.

snack? first time I hear this word and it doesn't mean food. what does this even mean?

when I taught Sunday school to 12-14 year olds, they helped me with all this stuff.

I remember one year, one of the girls in the youth group was talking about getting a car. but she said, "I ride deep! I need [this kind of vehicle.]" all the youth leaders said wat? apparently, it meant she has a lot of friends and would need a car that could occupy lots of people. lol she went to say we were lame cuz we didn't know what she meant. I said, "naw naw. It just means we don't talk like that because of life and work." lol
