A real man of God most likely would not want a woman. His interest cannot be divided, and he will not neglect God. If my wife die before I do, I will not seek another. I will devote all my time to God.

Funny, I've heard lots of men ask the same thing about women of God.

Maybe because a real man of God is not a God and woman need to understand this and not think that a mere man can be as perfect as God...

Ultra high and totally unrealistic standards for men are an all too common feature of woman, especially western woman these days...

I suppose there are some out there with ultra high standars but certainly not all of us.

God fearing
intelligent
wise
has a sensitive side (doesn't have to be very sensitive)
kind
loving
respectful
loyal
at least marginally organized
honest

That is off the top of my head. Are these too much to ask or unrealistic?

I don't see what's so hard about finding a real man of God. I'm right here! I even have a minister's license...

Why am I still single? According to zeroturbulence's list the only possibility is because I'm ugly. I'm certainly not gay, divorced or any of the others.

Noah got drunk
Abraham lied about Sarah being his sister (in that he also didn't say that she was his wife). Sarah was technically his half-sister though.
Lot lived a "carnal" life in Sodom, yet Peter called him "righteous".
Jacob tricked his brother Esau out of the birthright.
Moses murdered an Egyptian and couldn't speak well.
David committed adultery and murder
Joseph (Mary's husband) considered putting her away when he found out she was with child.
Matthew was a tax collector
Nicodemus visited Jesus at night, presumably because he was afraid of his fellow Jewish leaders.
Peter denied Jesus three times.

Yet these men are considered men of God (Lot is an iffy case)

Saul was Paul, and when he was Saul he went around killing Christians. He believed he was doing God's work.

That much I understood. I meant, in his list of men of God. The whole point of those stories mentioned are that people make mistakes, not that it's ok to go out and marry someone who habitually drinks to excess, lies, murders people, or commits adultery. Just trying to figure out what he was proving or illustrating.

Katyd, maybe you'll get better feedback if you define what YOU mean by a man of God. Just a thought.

I think he's saying that they were all bad boys at one time..

It's really not hard to find one. Honestly, you shouldn't want to find a man of God. He should want to find you. If you desire to have a man and possibly get married, then God will allow him to find you. Just wait to be pursued. :)

I'm not a fan of this attitude. God is not somehow obligated to give us what we want. My sister never got married. She wanted to have kids and now it's too late for her. Everything she wanted to build her life upon, was taken away. Why? Because God loved her enough that He wanted her to have what would be best for her, instead of what she wanted. I'd highly recommend the sermon The Underestimated God by Ligon Duncan (you can find it on YouTube).

This is not to say that any given person will ever never get married, or fulfill their dreams, or whatever. But God doesn't promise we'll get what we want in this life. This is an aspect of the so-called health and wealth "gospel" that has crept into Christianity, and it is a very dangerous doctrine.
