Walking in the reality of our covenant relationship with God has everything to do with our hearts being engaged in Him. We know that loving God is more important for us than anything else in this life. In fact, the very same commandment or prerequisite He carried over from the Old Covenant to the New is, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul and all your might". That's because our hearts are what connects us with the Spirit of God and the flow of His powerful love. Romans 5:5 says that the love of God is poured into our hearts by His Holy Spirit. Our hearts, in essence, are the contact and distribution point of God's supernatural life and love. It's no wonder that Proverbs 4:23 tells us to keep and guard our hearts with all vigilance, and above all that we guard.

Remembering that the word guard, is a military term - to watch over, to protect and control - when we allow things into our lives that contaminate and stop the flow of God's love and power, it becomes easy for the enemy to overwhelm and defeat us. Unforgiveness, strife, worry and sin, all have a part in blocking up the fountain of life flowing from God's Spirit into our lives. However, when our hearts are full of the love of God, we trust Him completely and delight and desire to invest into His interests, and do His will. It's God's love in us, and our love for Him that empowers us to believe in Him and do His will; causing us to walk in His abundant provision and blessing. In all you do and encounter today, determine to guard the flow of God's love in you, pay attention to what you allow to influence your heart and mind, so that the power of His life and love can do it's perfect work in and through you.

That scripture Proverbs 4:23 “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”

Isn’t it interesting that it says “above all else”....? There’s something about the heart that God really wants us to care for and protect. We must be vigilant and keep our hearts guarded and protected, and I’m not only meaning emotionally but spiritually as well.

Yes my precious sister, you are right. There is something about our heart indeed. That's where the HOLY SPIRIT dwells.
