Hi guys! :)

I'd like to hear what your favorite oldies tunes are. It can be anything from the 80's and beyond. You can tell us why too if there is some special reason.

I know a lot of you younger members are closet oldies fans so don't be shy! Show the world that your musical taste runs deeper than Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber! :p

Ok, here are a few of mine...

Never My love (by The Association)

Love's Theme (Love Unlimited Orchestra - conducted by Barry White)

Everybody's Talking (the theme from Midnight Cowboy by Harry Nilsson)

Everything I Own (by Bread)

My Eyes Adored You (Frankie Valli)

My brothers had a band in the 80s.They were The Inversions. They were really popular in the Detroit area at the time. They played all oldies music but only the ones you could dance to. They played a lot of good songs and here are my favorites.

Kicks
secret agent man
Double shot of my babys love
Midnight confession
Farmer John
I'll stop the world and melt with you
I will fallow

They would play some Tommy James and the Shandells but my mind is drawing a blank right now and I cant remember what their names are. My brothers still play today about once a month. They had to move on to real paying jobs.lol

It's all good..My mom and dad loved music, so I grew up listening to just about everything, especially oldies. These are some of my alltime favs:

Chain, Chain, Chain & Respect - Aretha Franklin
Unchained Melody
At Last (okay...so I'm a romantic..get over it lol)
End of the World - Skeeter Davis
Without You - Harry Nilsson
Nights in White Satin - Moody Blues
Just about anything by Elvis (amazing voice..have to say it), the Eagles (gotta love a 12 string and tight harmony) or ZZ Top (La Grange especially)
Sweet Child O Mine - Guns N Roses
In the Air Tonight - Phil Collins...especially the drums toward the end
Total Eclipse of the Heart - Bonnie Tyler

I am an old school rock-in-roller. As a kid I worked at learning to play the guitar and at 17 which was 1975, I joined a rock band in need of a Bass Guitarist and fell in love with the bass. I am not sure if it was the deep rich tone of the bass I was intriged by or the fact I could shake the building like thunder. LOL
I could make a list that would on and on of favorites but here are a couple I really liked just because they have a fun bass line and I never really got tired of playing them over the years.

Closer to Home (Grand Funk)
Roll On Down The Highway (BTO)
Pretty Woman (Roy Oberson)
I Saw Her Standing There (Beatles)
Fool For The City (Foghat)
Six Days On The Road (Johnny Rivers)
Thankful (Caedmon's Call) Not an oldie but a Contemporary Christian song with a smokin' bass line.

Those are some great songs you guys! And yea I love motown too. "Baby baby, where did our love go..."

2humble, Im an old school rocker too. I started playing drums in the 80's. I played more hard rock stuff like rush, led zeppelin, ozzy, van halen, etc.. but I still loved listening to softer stuff like the eagles, hall & oates, dan fogelberg...

Catwoman, could the songs from the Shondells be "money money" and "crystal blue persuasion"? the latter is one of my faves.

Julianna, Im a big Elvis fan too :) Love his slower songs. In the Air Tonight is one of the songs I also like drumming to :)

Sportygirl, "yesterday: has always been one of my favorites too, also "the long and winding road".

Just for the record I also like Frank Sinatra and Neil Diamond.

Ok, everyone is going to laugh at me for what I consider to be "oldies", but I am a child of the 80's and because my parents are not into music at all, I didn't start listening to the radio until somewhere around 1984.

I am an 80's pop music nut--for a lot of top 40 songs from that area, you can just play the first few notes and I'll recognize it. My love for popular music started to wane in the early 90's with the "grunge" era... and I've also been trying, for several years, to find Christian music that I like and doesn't put me to sleep.

One of my absolute favorite songs from the 80's is "Take On Me" by a-ha, fueled by the fact that it has my favorite video of all times. I used to read my brother's comic books... and how lovely it would be if some cute guy popped out of the pages and into my life!!!

I am a bit dismayed in that I've tried introducing the video (most have heard the song) to my mid-twenty-something friends... to which, they roll their eyes and are clearly unimpressed. One called it, "The Cheesiest Love Story Ever Told, and In Record Time."

*sniff* These young whipper snappers just don't know a classic when they see one!!!

Other favorites include:

Kyrie--Mr. Mister ("Hey Soul Sister, Ain't that Mr. Mister on the Radio")
And We Danced--The Hooters
Break My Stride--Matthew Wilder
Two of Hearts--Stacey Q.
Heat of the Moment--Asia
Don't Lose My Number--Phil Collins
Theme Song From the NeverEnding Story--Limahl
Love Theme From St. Elmo's Fire--David Foster

Just to name a few!!! Here, here, for the 80's, mall hair and all!! :D

While my Guitar Gently Weeps- The Beatles
Three Little Birds -Bob Marley
High Tide or Low Tide -Bob Marley (although, I'm more a fan of the cover by Jack Johnson/Ben Harper)

I like more songs than that, but those are my favorites.

I'm so with the Motown folks. :)

Back in the day you could either sing or you couldn't. There weren't all of the bells and whistles to make you sound better like we have now. Some voices we'll never hear the like of again - Karen Carpenter, Jim Croce, Elvis, Michael Jackson, Patsy Cline, amazing singers all...

There are so many oldies. Where do I start? From Elvis to Chubby Checker to Creedence Clearwater Revival to Led Zeppelin to David Bowie to Journey to Motley Crue to Nirvana to... And these are just rock and roll artists!

But if I had to name just one timeless oldie that is just as relevant today as it was almost fifty years ago, it would have to be "Unchained Melody" by the Righteous Brothers.

Oohhh... just remembered...

Dan Fogelberg... "Leader of the Band", and, can't remember the official title, but "Old Lang Syne" (I think? The song that ends with the lyrics, "The snow turned into rain.")

And thanks for reminding me of the Carpenters, Julianna!!

"Top of the World" is one of the best songs ever!! ;)

"Endless Love" -Diana Ross & Lionel Richie
"Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head" -Bj Thomas
"Lay All Your Love on Me" -Abba
