After I read some commentss, I see the problem. It's spelled wrong!
It should be "A woman's heart should be brought in light with Christ so any godly man could see it shining"
I like that much better. Thanks for your help. :)

Amen! God is not our genie in a bottle.

Maybe it's still spelled wrong. Maybe it's really this:

"Your heart should be so hidden in and hungry for Christ that you won't obsess with finding a girlfriend/boyfriend until you're ready."

You are right. We should send a mail to Maya and tell her she is obviously wrong :D

We could just add her name to allforfun's "You're Doing It Wrong" thread :) And put one of Zero's awesome "fail" poster up!

My cereal point is this....

Seek God for God.

Seek Women for Women.

If you are seeking God but looking for a Woman.... There is a good chance you have a deep understanding of the term "Cognitive Dissonance"

Seek first the Kingdom of Heaven AND all these things will be added unto you. NOT Seek first the Kingdom for all the things that you want added to you.

What I'm NOT saying is that Women and God are incompatible but, what I am saying is that God understands our heart and our motivations. He knows what it is that we are looking to become and why we do the things that we do. My faith is not a means to my own ends, it is a gift from God to achieve His purpose with my life.
---
Is faith a gift from God?

We choose whom we want to believe, whom we want to serve, not to mention, what we want to believe in. Faith is what we give to God, our chosen gift to Him, our belief in Him, His works done in our lives showing us His good. From that belief comes faith, and, an understanding of His life for us today, and, an understanding of what He did for us yesterday(past), and, what He will do for us in the future, forevermore.

-----
Maya Angelou is a great poetic writer, who wrote several books related to many things including her African background , childhood. Very fun reads, like, 'I know why the caged bird sings.' I go from memory on that title, and, I remember funny 'bathroom' humor still from that book I read back in high school for lit.
-------
Women's hearts should be so layered in the world (secular) so as to have men having to unwrap the layers to find Christ hidden deep within , like, buried at the bottom of the ocean?

'No! '

Sure, it might sound all purple hearts and red balloons romantically lovely, but , ladies, I implore you to LET the Lord lead, and, I know ALL humans lives are to be individual PERSONAL relationships with God (Christ Jesus and His Holy Spirit). Your faith, I believe, should be out in the open immediately, now what it all is, how it formed, transformed, reformed, how you became born again, maybe, baptized, etc., etc. does NOT need to be explained away quickly, nor should it.

But your simple faith in God should be known, and, you do not have to give that information freely to guys your dating if you meet elsewhere than chyrch. The guy should ask you VERY QUICKLY into meeting you , IF, and, only IF, he is about to ask you out.

Secular movies have good quotes, although bad morals and things done, like in movie, Titanic, where Jack and Rose do it in old Ford. But , the Lord leads, and watching movies like this, Harry Potter, is fine if they become your life more like Christ, like used as witnessing tools tobyour children to explain the parts of movies, like Jack-Rose sex scene as WRONG.

OK, so, a woman should NOT be hiding her belief in Christ, but she should have secrets of how she met Christ , how she battled through tough dating and other ilk situations with Christ.

--I do like what Rose said at end of movie, Titanic, as she was on her deathbed at old age , many years after the Titanic disaster she survived and Jack not...
Again, I paraphrase, but my green brain is rootin', tootin' close remembering it word for word. :D

~ A woman's heart is like the ocean, filled with secrets deep within.

I like the woman's heart should be so hidden in Christ part. In order to attract a serious Christian man, she does have to put Christ above everything else. Hence I don't see how its sexist. It goes both ways. Its also saying that a serious Christian woman expects a man to seek Christ first. That is really what maya angelou was trying to say.
I agree with him an yeah its just talking about keeping us pure in him and to trust him fully and rely on him and that man will do the same

Is this really so bad?

If a man wants to get with you, it should be clear that he has to connect with you on a spiritual level. He must belong to God as much as you do, otherwise the relationship is all vanity and self-indulgence.

I think that's what the quote means. I don't see it as being misleading or against the Bible or anything else.

Of course you like it. Everyone likes it! Its the best quote ever written! Woohoo!! Lets make a holiday in commemoration of this incredibly brilliant and lllustrious quote. We'll call it... "Men are Pigs who must Always Rise up to a Woman's Much Deeper Spiritual Level Day" :D Yea, I like that!

How about this quote:

"A man's heart should be so hidden in the mud that a Godly woman must thoroughly degrade herself to find him."

Has a nice ring to it don't you think? :)

...Or the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. (2 can play this game)

Strawman^?

This is my last illustration before I give up on this thread

There are 4 hardworking men living in the United States. Each of them are single and they each work hard 6 days a week and save a significant amount of money. Each of them wishes to do well by what he has saved.

The first man uses his money to put a down payment on a house so that he can move out of his apartment and be more secure. He says, "With what I have left I will find a wife and serve the Lord."

The second man uses his money to travel around the world learn many languages and go to schools universities with the hope of finding a wife . He says, "With what I have left, after I have found a wife, I will serve the Lord."

The third man saves his money and is deeply involved in his church and even leads a bible study. He seeks to find a wife and spend his money on building a family. He says, "If I have found a good Christian wife here and with my money I will build us a home and love her forever."

The fourth man spends his money learning how to become a Physician and a Missionary. He says, "With my money I will serve Lord. If it is His will, may he see fit to bless my life with a suitable helper."

Which one of these men is the man the quote by Maya Angelou describes?

Which one of these men is most about our Father's business?

I wonder how many are actually looking for the knight in shining armour?

Just curious cause my armour isn't shiny; Its rusted, dented, cracked and has parts missing, and is coated with blood, sweat and dirt. I'm too busy fighting the battle called life to take the time to polish my armour. Just when you think you've downed the last of the enemies, another one jumps out of the wood work. My horse in tired and ragged, and I wont even get into my sword. I would love just one day of peace so I can take the chips out of the blade, polish the armour and brush the caked mud and straw out of my horses mane.

One day is all I ask.....

No????

Oh well.... back to the fight I suppose. Guess the ladies will have to look elsewhere for their shiny knight. Oh and sorry, my horse just crushed the glass slipper, he is tired you know and a little dopy at the moment. I'll buy you a new one next week.

I like this :)
Try flipflops next time though. They don't break, they're cheaper and we can still show off our pedicures :) And we'll try to have some carrots onhand for your horse. ;)

I took intense offense to this quote the very first time I ever saw it on a girl from churches myspace 4 years ago. It dares to suggest that all Christian men aren't buried in Christ and therefore not good enough. It questions every man's walk with God from whichever perspective a woman chooses too.

I only ask my prospective woman have a walk with Christ.

I wonder if anyone really knows who maya angelou is. When i read a quote i like to consider the person who said it before i take it to heart. I love to study writers and poets so i know a bit about her. She had a child at 16, was a single mother. Shes been married and divorced, she lived with men when they werent married. Worked with malcom X oprah winfrey, bill clinton.

i find this quote to be written by an obnoxious woman who said obnoxious things that she herself didnt demonstrate in life.

I side with zero on this totally.

MAybe Mrs. Angelous said this because of he life experience. Maybe if she was more holy then her life would have been easier. Teen pregnancy, divorce....maybe in her older age when she looked back on her life she saw where she "messed" up, and learned from her mistakes.

If she found a man of Christ and lived a Christian life then maybe she would have been "better off".

Side note: I say Maya(however you spell her name) in one of Tyler Perry's movies. Madea Goes to JAil....I became a fan of her after watching that movie.

Is that the real her in that movie or someone who portrays her? I did a little google research on her before I started this thread (like 5 MONTHS ago!) and found that she was raped by a man when she was 5 yrs old and then refused to talk to anyone for 5 years. That just might explain her low opinion of men.

Yes that is the real her.

Sex abuse can really screw a person up too. I don't know about her life but I kind of agree with what she says. I'm speaking from experience myself, but I do see your point as well.

Well, I don't want to get this into a diatribe on a personal quote I HATE ! (Green, thou shall hate? No, sorry, God)

But this quote is so deadly to a woman's heart. IF they hide their heart in Christ then it means they are needing to lie about things doesn't it? It means when the guy says, 'What kind of a christian are you?'

It means ' What did you do last summer that God led you to do? '

I mean, as I understand it, and, forgive me if I am too hard on the ladies, but it means you are going to have to LIE to the guy to KEEP your heart hidden.

Why not just be transparent and let the Lord lead. We ARE protected by the blood of Christ protection IF we ask for it. Why would you want to go into a relationship with 'deception' at its very core. And, 'it' is, IF you are hiding your true self from the guy.

-- Like I said, you are having to have the guy unwrap the 'layers' of your personality to FINALLY get to who you really are. Now, MAYBE, I just completeely don't understand this phrase because I don't want to be so jaded in my opinion that I am not listening to the ladies' reasoning. But I have listened on here, and, I am 100% with what Zere says, and, not to side with guys, but you are changing us through your stance (belief?) that a guy should have to unwrap your layers to get to the real YOU. Liam, too, speaks of not serving two masters because scripture says ' YOU CAN'T! ' , and, Zere, too, and, other guys on here, as VERY FEW seem to side with you, but some do, which leads me to believe that it's a TOUGH quote to undo (decipher). The Lord leads.

Again, the notion of a guy unwrapping your layers to find out who you really are applies to the make-up of your character, your personality, your being, and, those questions should proactively come from the guy as well as just seeing who you are as you do things together.

But, what do I know, I'm 42, rarely spent time with me and just one girl in a romantic light, and, I've never been married, and, I've never, well, enough on me. But I have read a lot of great books, including Gilbert Morris, and, one 'love' book by Elizabeth Elliott called Passion and Purity. It's a Love story, truly. (notice the capital 'L' :) --- (I've read P&P Thrice ! Yikes, nuked, PLEASE don't take away my man card :D ) I encourage everyone who wants to see how beautiful love can unfold, with God, (unlayer?) to read it. :)

God bless ! :)
