This is the formula for finding a socially acceptable dating range. Take your age divide by 2, then add 7. What you get is the Customarily Acceptable Western Culture Marriageability Range.

So for instance, I'm 25. that means that my minimum dating age range is 20 (19.5) and my maximum dating age range is 37.

I was curious to know what this means to the people who frequent the Single's Forum.

It's far too early in the day for me to do math. :)

I had always been attracted to older guys in my younger days. I didn't have much in common with guys my own age and never knew what to talk with them about generally. Now, guys my own age don't ask me out, but guys in their 20s do. I don't understand why.

I would probably feel more comfortable dating someone within five years, plus or minus, my age, but I don't know what the answer to this is. I really struggle with it. I do have to say that seeing how happy a couple I know is (she's my age and he's in his early 50s) has caused me to wonder how important age is at this point.

Wait........

Half of 25 is 12.5 adding seven gets 19.5.

I myself prefer an older man, not too old though. But if it's God's will for me to have someone who is younger or much older than I am...I will have to let His will be done in my life. He knows what is best for me. I remember Derek Prince's first wife. She was 20 years old younger than he was. He met her when he was 30 if I'm not mistaken. And according to him, it's God's will for him to marry her.

(Lol but half my age plus 7 is actually like my age lol.)

13.5/2=6.75+7=13.75 So my MINIMUM dating range is someone a quarter of the year older than me.
How do you find the maximum?

Awake enough now to do math. Okay. 38 divided by 2 = 19, + 7 = 26. Now what? Add 19 to 26 to get the range? If so, that would be 26-45? hmmmm...

The calculation is different for girls, btw.

x = y/2+7 -----> If you are a boy
y=(x-7)*2 ----> If you are a girl.

x=girl's age, y=boy's age.

So, since I am a girl, and I am 20 in 9 days, I would compute this way:

y= (20-7)*2
y=26
I guess the eldest I can date is a 26 year old. I wouldn't go below my age anyway.
Sorry, math major.

Liamson took half his age and added it to his actual age to arrive at the high end (I think)...so, Jullianna, in your case, your range should be 26 to 57.

Being 35, my range, as I understand it, should be 24.5 to 52.5.

Seoul, being 37, ideally should range from 63 to 87. I don't know why, it just is.

Nuke, I don't wanna be close to this thread when seoul reads this!! haha

And why in the world is there a different formula for each gender? That's nuts...

So...if that's the case
38-7=31...x2 = 62. Are you serious???? *shivers*

The age range increases for girls as your age increases. To be honest, it's a stupid formula. Apt for teens and people in 20s though.
