This is for the men, I am tired of hearing about christian guys who put down single moms, as if they have never made a mistake in their lives. Just because their past led to a child with a father who is most often awol, does not mean you are free to judge them.
1 “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. 3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? For those who do this, GROW UP. Be men of God looking after the women of your churches, loving them, caring for them and if God so calls marry them. But DO NOT shun them or put them down, for only he that is without sin has the right to cast the first stone and not one man can claim that except Jesus. Being a man of God means showing mercy to others, especially the down-trodden. |

As a single mom I feel that it has given me a special compassion for people that are hurting. I can remember times going to church knowing I didn't have any money, my pilot light on my furnace was out, my car hadn't had the oil changed in months, my son crying and me exhausted because I had been up all night taking care of him. I worried, "what will I do if my son gets sick... I have no sick leave available..." I realized that the body/church had no idea how hard it was for me as a single parent. Single mothers tend to be annoynomous. No one knows them. They are frightened and assume people are judging them. In reality people gravitate to those people who are like them ie: married people hang out with married people etc. I realized people didn't see me they saw the package. Now as a more mature Christian woman I look for opportunities to reach out to single mothers, invite them and their children to go camping with me, take them out for icecream, invite them over to my swimming pool, take them to see the fire works on the 4th of July. I would encourage you to look for those hurting, lonely single parents especially the women and invite them into your circle, don't be afraid to leave a package of diapers or baby formula on their car during church (believe me they need it.), take them out for icecream after church, make an extra loaf of banana bread or cookies and bring it to them. (Believe me the kids haven't had sweets or treats because there is no money.) Most of all just try and remember their names and pray for them...

Funny how you should mention this. I just put a rant about how being a single mom is really hard in the Christian world.
