How much does the past hamper our now, I mean relationship wise. Will a past bad relationship have a negative effect on your present and future outlook?

Should we let, past negatives affect our lives, can they be a hindrance to living a life for Christ as well as relationships?

Secondly, if we have let the past go in Christ, how does this shape our 'now' character for the positive?

I believe the past affects us directly proportional to how much we have given it (the past) to God. The past can either make us stronger, weaken us, keep us in the same place or cause us to "run" to God and win the race. I remind myself that God has forgiven me and my past is "forgotten." I embrace his forgiveness and thank God for his mercy, kindness, and love every day. It's an attitude and an act of surrender to the promises that God has given us. Take Care.

I do think it depends on how much we have given them up to God. I have a lot of hurtful relationships, including my divorce that plummeted me into the ground. But? I am thankful for those relationships, even the divorce because it has made me who I am today. Each relationship brought out something in me that I didn't know I had before and I could decide to keep that or discard it.

I think when we let the past hinder us is when we haven't fully healed from it. The scars are still fresh. My scars are still there, they are just healed.

I think people do continuously set themselves up to fail in relationships because they haven't allowed healing from past relationships to occur. Past relationships can also have a positive effect on present/future relationships and outlooks as, hopefully, we learn from our mistakes AND from the things we've done well.

Should we let, past negatives affect our lives, can they be a hindrance to living a life for Christ as well as relationships?

Negatives can consume our entire lives if we let them. We need to 1. learn from them; 2 give ourselves time to heal; 3. know when to simply LET IT GO.
So many times God is standing right there wanting us to release a thing to Him so we can move forward and we just...won't...let...it...GO.... We see it in these threads time and time again. If you don't release it, it will become a badge to you. You may even come to cherish it. I've seen it happen. But to other people, the badge reads "damaged". God wants better for us.

Secondly, if we have let the past go in Christ, how does this shape our 'now' character for the positive?

We become all the stronger for it in more ways than we can imagine.
