"As long as you're not an ogre, nothing should hold you back from talking to a stranger"

These were my sister's words to me the night before I did something I never though I could. I came up to a girl I have liked for over a year and simply started out a conversation. She was smart and gorgeous, which was what most freaked me out, among other things at that point of my life. We started a friendship, broken only by the fact that I had to move to another city hundreds of miles away.

That was years ago, ever since I've grown more and more confident when approaching the opposite sex. Of course not just in terms of dating but also in friendships.

I guess this is an encouragement for all of you out there who think that you must first fit within an specific category before approaching that special someone. If you never try it, you're never gonna see the results. I've had bad results as well, though there's nothing like knowing that you at least gave a pretty girl a shot instead of folding your hands foolishly. Be risky.

Very wise. I talk to homeless people and my mother regularily talks to toothless prostitutes. My mom has a really, really cool story about that. Remember that everyone you meet is someone Jesus died for.

I'm certainly glad to see a forum that's sensitive to ogre's feelings here... no need to worry about any discrimination!!! :)

But, um, just as a thought that hopefully pertains to the original topic... I've gone to prisons and listened to some of the inmates' stories... and became very close friends with one of the people I met.

I completely agree, even if it's in a slightly different setting--you never know how God will bless your life, or through whom, until you take a few chances.
