Default Lord, help me change

[First of all, I want to say how cool it is to see the changes in this forum some of us have been praying for: More focus on God and what He wants to do in our lives, and fewer of "those threads" I hate to post in. Thank you, Lord!]

THE QUESTION OF THE THREAD: What is the biggest change you would like to see God bring about in YOU/YOUR LIFE this year?

MINE: I work too much. I'm a workaholic. Being a hard worker is good, but when it seemingly takes over one's life, that can't be good.

I spent quiet time with God, certainly, but I would like to do this more. I would like to stop neglecting family and friends as I have in recently months. I would like to remember to return personal calls/texts sooner than I often do. And, thanks to a conversation with an awesome friend, I need to remember to take time to lie on the beach, counting stars and listening to the ocean....watching birds and fireflies...listening to the laughter of children.

Help me with this, Lord.

I have been praying a lot for God to change this year in me the way i approach problems to go further the problem to a real answer with strenght, love and selfcontrol. I think it will be a looooong way to that because as human being sometimes i find myself fighting between my feelings about a situation vs what i really have to do.

I don't think that there's anything wrong with putting all of your heart into your work as long as you don't have kids or a spouse relying on your attention everyday. I actually think it is commendable. The apostles worked tirelessly for the Lord and I believe we all should do the same. This is why Paul said that singleness is a gift (because marriage detracts attention from one's work for the Lord).

God bless.

My paranoia. Sometimes my insecurities take over and either I withdraw to much, or feel like I'm trying to be accepted by others to hard. Most times, it's easy to conquer, but there are times when it gets the better of me.

Yes, the balance is different when your unmarried and childless, but we must be careful to consider ourselves and our friends. We still must have a
balance in those things also.

Hmmm... Good thread... I would like God to builder my confidence. Ive been writing and playong music all my life, but Ive never truly put it out there. I sing. I am confident that I sing well, and that is why I almost never turn down a chance to sing. I lead worship at least 2 weeks per month at my
church and mentor a couples ladies with their understanding of worship, how to lead, and also in the practicality of singing... However, im terrified to play or otherwise share my own music. My church is filled with amazing musicians and i really only play enough to get by. They are mostly very gracious people, but its
intimidating as heck.

This biggest changes I would like to see happen in my life within the next year are:

1) A renewed spiritual identity
2) A drastic shift from insanity to sanity
3) A renewed health and zest for life

Thanks, Gabe. I've been blessed to work in a profession that allows me to help a lot of people in critical times, but I'd like to do so much more. I do a lot for my church, but I'd like to make time to do more. I would also like to call/write my family/friends more and spend time with them...and especially spend more alone time with God, you know?

If He's put it on my heart to make these changes, I trust that He will help me make them

For the last couple of years, I've had to step away from serving in the church on a regular basis in order to work a schedule that would allow me to both pay for and attend ministry school. I ended up working that schedule a lot longer than I had originally anticipated when my 20 year old nephew decided he wanted to attend ministry school also in a different state. Having just experienced the rigors of going to school and working a full time job, I decided to pay for as much of his expenses so that he could both enjoy and experience ministry school without having to worry about how he was going to live.

Finally, that stage in my life has come to a conclusion and I will admit that it has taken a toll me mentally and spiritually. The Lord has led me to a new state and a new church and I pray that the Lord will give me both the grace and the strength to step up and be the person that He has called me to be in this new season of my life.

Help me with this, Lord.
If you consider yourself a workaholic then I bet your an organised person. Do you keep a diary? If so, schedule dates with yourself to recoup and think of it as a non negotiable task to complete (using work language here). And do something like go for a hike, beach, decent movie and DON'T take your cellphone with you! And include friends if you want but sometimes doing those things alone is good for us, because sometimes we get addicted to constant noise, flurry of activity and being surrounded by people (even if we don't know them). Those times alone help us vocationally as well because quiet days are those when our best ideas come and they inspire us and come to mind when we return to work. So having time off is good for us and by looking after ourselves mentally we're also worshiping God. Also remember, when we are on our deathbed do we want to be reminded of everything we achieved or do we just want our loved ones around us?

I recommend you read this - Exodus 18:7-26.
Its about Moses, the bibles biggest workaholic and how he kept having nervous breakdowns and how a family member intervened.

Im moving from New Zealand to Canada with my husband this June. New life, new strange weird country, new church, new everything. And aside from my husbands family (whom I am very close to but they aren't christian) I would like God to bring godly new friends into my life. I know I will be homesick but I don't want to be so homesick that Im just depressed all the time and end up regret moving and being bitter. And if I had a few close friends a nice church family it would help.

I'm sure you will find all you need in Canada, just be prayerful about it . I remember when I moved here, at first it was good , then weird, then sad, then I decided to pray about it, then I had to wait, keep praying, now I have a church and friends haha. God will hear your prayers, and everything will come according to his time and will. I will pray for you <3

What would I like to change? Sometimes I feel I get lost in my thoughts and feelings so easily...I don't know how to explain it, I don't even know if it's necessarily bad, but I just want to make sure my mind and heart are in order and focused on God, I'm almost certain that this change would improve some of my attitudes.

This year I really want to focus on not worrying about things. The Lord has really helped me in this area recently. The peace I have experienced in this is something I can't even explain. It's just so wonderful. I want to be able to keep any overwhelming feelings of worry away and continue thanking Him for the change He is allowing within me.

I also pray for a deeper appreciation in my heart for the people the Lord has surrounded me with.
