We react in our lives most of the time because the experiences that we remember from our past, so if we remember something good we may be more positive and if we remember something bad we may be negative in our actions. I know that bad experiences gives us a lot of benefit too.....

....but i am very curious.......

Do you think that you would be doing something different in your life if you only remember your good experiences ?

Would the image that you have from yourself would be very different if you only remember your good experiences?

Would you change something in your life if from now on you only remember your achievements? What it would be?

Do you think that you would be doing something different in your life if you only remember your good experiences ? Probably not, because everything from where I live to where I work now happened as the result of something bad that happened in my life that God is using for good.

Would the image that you have from yourself would be very different if you only remember your good experiences? I would probably be doing more stupid things than I normally do if I didn't remember the consequences thereof, so I probably wouldn't feel very good about myself.

Would you change something in your life if from now on you only remember your achievements? What it would be?
I don't know that I would change anything, but I would certain pray for a humble spirit and that only God would be honored by those achievements. Anything short of that could be damaging to one's walk with Christ, huh?

Liz, it sounds like your bad memories are getting in the way of your happiness. Don't let them. God wants you to look forward with hope and courage. Trust in the Lord who determines our future for us.

We can make our plans, but the LORD determines our steps. - Proverbs 16:9 NLT

Bad things that happened are what teaches us lessons...with many people myself included, they are what is used to bring us closer to God, to see how much we need him. If we never remembered those events, we wouldn't remember lessons learned...we would never move closer to God... our faith is in the most danger when everything in life is going well ; when we think we don't need anything. When we are in need is when we first learn to turn to him, to rely on him, to trust him......Without those experiances, or memories I know I would not even be christian, and many I know would not be as close to Him as they are.

Well, actually last sunday talked in church about to remember the good things and forget about bad, to forget like "forgiveness", letting outside from our mind the bitterness and memories of bad feelings as a way to take care of our minds and hearts.
But.......i started to think...and think....and think....and think....and think...and this thread appeared......:D

Liz, you're always thinking. lol :D It usually seems it's in an effort to improve yourself, and that's admirable. I try to be the same way.

First off, welcome to CC. I've enjoyed reading some of your posts here already. It's always nice to see someone new contributing.

I agree with what you're saying. I know my biggest times of personal growth have often been when going through a rough situation.
You're right, it's those times that we often realize just how much we need God.

This makes me think of a song that expresses what I believe quite well. It's by Downhere and called "For the Heartbreak". If anyone would like to hear it, I just found it on Youtube here:
For The Heartbreak - Official Lyric Video - Downhere - YouTube
They are one of my favorite bands for many reasons, and this song is one of them.

Maybe. I like optimizing what I already have, but technically you have to see a problem or potential problem to optimize. Problems others don't see. Yeah, I'm a bit of a hypochondriac.

Would the image that you have from yourself would be very different if you only remember your good experiences?
Probably lesser. I like focusing on my triumphs through bad experiences...but would you consider those good memories? Hmmmm...

Would you change something in your life if from now on you only remember your achievements? What it would be?
I'm already goal/achievement oriented. Chances are I wouldn't change very much.

Problem Liz!

Brain injury left me with no short term memory. In essence you tell me something now & in 20 mins. I'll have forgotten what you've told me. But in 2 hrs. I'll recall exactly what you said. However the manner in which I'll remember will be as if your thoughts were my idea.
Sorry if that bolloxes your theory.
You have no idea of the copious notes I have to make, preparing for a Court case!

jimsun, Im sorry about your problem, I have bad memory so i cant imagine the big effort that you have to do to make your work, I will pray for you

Im not sure if that bolloxes my theory ;) I actually was thinking in long term memory, for example, if in the past your relationships failed and then you know in the present a new person, if you remember your failures then you may think that this relationship wont work either, but if you try to forget the bad experiences then you may be able to start that relationship with more positive thoughts about the future.
