I am currently reading One Thousand Gifts. It is an account of the author making a list of things she is grateful to God for. Even after years of the pain of her little sister dying tragically, and her doubting that God loves her and His goodness.
"It starts to unfold, light in the dark, a door opening, how all these years it's been utterly pointless to try to wrench out the spikes of discontent. Because that habit of discontentment can be only be driven out by hammering in one iron sharper. The sleek pin of gratitude."
I am definitely one to be discontented with my life- comparing myself with what other people have and what I lack. And especially feeling discontented with being single. So I am wondering, what are some things that you are grateful for? That are meaningful to you, and open your heart?
A few of mine:
A warm kitchen and the smell of a roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy dinner on a bitterly cold winter afternoon that my mom cooks
A red sunset on a bitterly cold day setting through the bare trees
Lavender and Valerian root tea on Fall days
Listening to my fall soundtrack & folk music
The first big fluffy snow flakes slowly falling from the sky in slow motion
