Hey Everyone,

I love my family to bits, and I know they're trying to be helpful but... my beloved Grandma died over two years ago--she and my wonderful Grandpa had been married 64 years and knew each other their entire lives. As you can imagine, he has been extremely lonely since her passing and I visit him on a regular basis.

He has been dating a woman who is much younger than he is (I know, some of you guys out there might say, "Score one for your Grandpa!") and I know he was trying to "help" (because my family doesn't like seeing me alone), but last night, he set up a dinner that included me, him, his girlfriend... and her son. (Ahem.)

He had told me about it in advance--how many of you have heard, "I know this guy/girl..." and you know right away they are NOT going to be a match in any way, shape, or form--what did you do? Did you still go out with the person anyway and how did it go? What did you do or say to let them down easy?

For one thing, this man smokes (I have allergies and can't stand smoking--tried dating a smoker once and it was a catastrophe), is unemployed (and during dinner, when I asked him about work, he mentioned NOTHING about looking for another job--said he was hoping his old place would call him back, and it's been over 8 months, with no mention of any involvement in his church), and, I'm sorry, but I have to be honest--because I'm told I look younger for my age and he looked older for his age (he's about 7 years older than me as it is), he looked like he could be my father (pet peeve of mine, as everyone in public who sees just my Grandpa and me together, because we are different races, that I am my Grandpa's much-younger mail-order-bride--no joke! We've had numerous people tell us that and I HATE it.) I'm sorry, but that's just not me, and I hope I don't sound superficial.

But as we've discussed in other thread, even as Christians, looks do have some merit.

My Grandpa talked eagerly about "the four of us going out again soon...." I'm going to have to sit down and have a very loving, gentle, but FIRM talk with him.

What about all of you? Tell us your blind date stories!!

Ok, twin. You finally stumped me. I have no blind date stories.

I do, however, have an eHarmony story, but I saw a picture of him before our first date. Does that count? Or should I start an eHarmony thread? lol

Quite honestly, I'd probably be a bit of a disappointment on a blind date.

You two are hilarious :). *quickly updates her picture to a recent one* Ha! My profile pic is only about a year old (I just dont tell people about the third arm I grew in the meantime--and luckily, it's in the back, so it never shows in pictures from the front... Makes finding clothes difficult though, because I find most sweaters for us 3-armed people have a sleeve for the third arm ON THE SIDE, not the back... how rude and inconsiderate, huh?

AM SHOCKED, SHOCKED, that Musical has no blind date stories!!

Please accept some of my grammar/wording mistakes in my posts--my mind always races way ahead of my typing (especially when I'm rushing back from my break at work!)

Oh! Oh! Oh! I wanna post!! Can I post?? I'm gonna post!!

Here's my "blind date story".....

I was babysitting for a divorced lady, and she asked me to watch the kids as she was going out on a blind date. She left, met him and they had dinner together, when she got home I asked how it had gone, and she said "He was a really nice guy, I just don't see it "going anywhere"... Within about a week she all of a sudden tells me she is moving...to Alabama (for those who don't know it, I am in Ohio) soooo I start teasing her about hooking ME up with "the blind date guy" !! hahhaa!! The last day I was to babysit for her, indeed the night before she actually moved, she surprises me with, Ok....now we are going to call "the blind date guy" and you and he are gonna talk!!! HAHAHHAA EEEEEKS!!! Despite my protests....(I was TEASING for goodness sakes!!!) she called him, we talked..........and talked......and talked!! hahaa....I actually had him call me back after the kids were in bed! We set up a "blind date"!!! and it's been 23+ years now of wedded bliss!!!!! They DO work out SOMEtimes!!!! :)

WHOA!!!! Will someone PLEASE set me up on a blind date like NanaBean's... (I love Alabamanian accents, by the way.) :) But will be happy with whoever God chooses for me... Now if only I could find him...

And you are always welcome to post here, Nana (ANYONE out there is--maybe you're married with some good advice for us singles--please post for us!)

Don't let any of us (or some of our occasional lapses of silliness) intimidate anyone out there ;). My whole personal goal of starting threads is to include as many CCers out there as possible.

The son of a member of my church choir is helping me move tomorrow and he's my age and supposedly cute (according to his dad, at least).

Is there such a thing as a blind help-me-move-my-mattresses-because-they're-too-big-for-my-car-and-if-we-hit-it-off-I'll-pay-you-back-by-buying-you-a-meal arrangement?

Hmm... that could work. I guess anything's better than the is-it-awkward-if-I-say-that-I've-enjoyed-getting-to-know-your-dad-in-choir-and-when-he-first-told-me-he-had-a-son-my-age-I-thought-hmm-maybe-we-should-meet-and-please-stop-looking-at-me-like-I'm-crazy moment...
