Christmas is my favorite, truly because I love snowy weather.
I have, lately, gotten completely fed up with how commercialized Christmas truly is. I also am fully aware that Christmas isn't truly when Jesus was born, though we use that time of year to celebrate His birth. I do like the fact that Jesus Christ gets to be spoken of so openly at that time, but it is sad that He isn't the one spoken of most often. Usually it's Santa and Rudolph and Frosty and the like. I love A Charlie Brown Christmas, though. When you hear that the t.v. show producers didn't like the Christian part of the show and wanted to cut it but didn't have enough time to do so, it gives the show a whole new perspective.
I love it when people stand up against common thought and standards and say, "Yes. I love Jesus Christ. And I don't care who knows it. And guess what? He loves you too! And I'm going to make sure you know that as well."
For least favorite, I picked New Years. I love having the day off from work
but it is truly the most pointless holiday to me. Like the world needs an excuse to get completely inebriated and kiss strangers. I didn't even think of Valentine's Day, though it used to be one of my least favorites (as did Christmas at one time, but for completely different reasons). I think I have disliked every holiday at some point in my life, except Easter. There is just too much wrapped up in that one for me not to like it, though I do, again, realize they took Passover and Jesus' death and resurrection and combined it with a pagan holiday...but, same argument as Christmas arises. It is a time when Jesus can actually be openly spoken of and even the most intolerant in the US will listen...if bitterly. Anyway, I stopped disliking Valentine's Day in a two step process. Firstly, I turned it into "Moose Need Love, Too" day and would send Moose-ism to friends and family. I like Moose. Ultimately, I learned that there is a Name Your Own Holiday day in March, I believe, and so Moose's Day was born. Then, I decided that I have the best Valentine ever! Jesus Christ is amazing. If I ever feel unloved, I don't need a holiday for Him to show me just how loved I am. So, Valentine's Day is for Him.
You know, even if I was in a relationship, I wouldn't want to celebrate Valentine's Day. Too much pressure. You expect too much and too little is delivered or you expect too little and so give 'too little' and the extravagant gift you receive makes you feel like a heel. Yes, they say it is the thought that counts, but we all can agree this is rarely the case. You either feel like you over-gave and thus feel ripped off/bitter or you feel as though you under-gave and thus feel shamed/sad.
Or maybe that's just me.
