Hey everyone,

At what age/stage did you think you knew everything (or are you in that stage now?) When was the time in your life where your parents didn't seem to know anything, teachers had nothing useful to say, and basically, you saw everyone else in the world as knowing a whole lot less than you?

When did you (if you have) snap out of that phase and what made you think differently?

If you had to rate yourself on a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being the highest) of how much you think you know, how would you have rated yourself then, and how would you rate yourself now?

I went through that phase of thinking I knew a lot in my early 20's. I guess I figured no one understood, and if I could just get out, experience life, and live as an adult, I could surely prove myself. :) Boy, did God have other plans!! :) I sure hope I can approach the rest of my life as a LEARNING experience rather than as a Trying To PROVE MYSELF Experience.

I would say I have 2 scales:

1. The How Much I Thought I Knew About Life Scale -- from ages 17-23, I was probably at an 8, while I was going through my worst stage. Now? I'm lucky if I'm at about a 2!!! :)

The older I get, the more I realize I know a whole lot about nothing. Listening to what other people have gone or go through, crying with and praying with people in extreme situations, and seeing how hard those in authority above me have to work made me realize, "I DON'T KNOW MUCH OF ANYTHING!!!"

2. However as I get older, I'd say the How Much I Know About Me Scale has gone from a 4 when I was younger to probably about an 8 in my current state. I'm stronger about holding to my values, know more about what I can and cannot tolerate, and God has developed my relationship with Him many times over compared to what I was when I was younger. Being adopted and not knowing my family background doesn't bother me as much as it used to (though of course sometimes I think about it), but rather, I've learned to be thankful for the awesome family God has given me.

How about the rest of you? How much did you know about the world and yourself back then... and how much do you know now? And what has changed your method of thinking along the way?

I was the smartest person in the world from the age of 13-18. Really. Ask the me from back then, she'll tell you all about it.

And then I quit high school in my junior year and got married. Smooth move, yeah?

Not so much. When I ended up divorced right after I turned 18, I kind of realized I wasn't so bright. So then I figured I'd get married again when I was 19, still assuming I knew everything about marriage, at least, since I'd been there once...

Five years of basically repeatedly running head-first into a brick wall, and my step-dad was nice enough to tell me, "Try getting your head out of the clouds and living in the real world." I took the advice, realized I knew almost nothing about the real world, and have been learning ever since.

So, on a scale of 1-10, back then? I was sure I was at a 10. Now? Yeah, probably a 2, but hopefully moving up slowly to a 3.

Oh, one more thing- stay in school!

I've been a deep thinker and a worrier since I was a child. So I've never really felt confident about "knowing everything about life" ever. I don't even know what that must feel like.

Whenever I reach a moment where I realize I know so little, I don't get that feeling like "wow I was so dumb all my life cause I thought I was smart". I just kind of breathe a sigh of relief that I no longer have to feel so responsible for things that are out of my control for the moment.

Say WHAT?? You're telling me I DON'T know everything? How dare you! :p

In all seriousness, probably just last school year or even a little bit of this year I get that feeling that no one had much to say that was useful and I already knew what they were telling me, or if I didn't, whatever. I'm a lot better this year. But at times, I just feel like nothing I obtain as far as knowledge goes is useful or beneficial to me or has falsehoods to it and I can't always tell what's fact or what they THINK is fact. (some of the exaggerations and opinions they've stuck in their history, world literature either drives me insane, I'm not able to read through it at times it's so confusing, or it's Mythology.) *Sigh* Public schooling at its finest...

As I said, I still haven't quite "Snapped out" of that phase, even though I'm aware I don't know everything out there. =\

If I'd rate myself on how much I actually know now, 3. There's too much out there in the world for me to even know 1/5 of everything out there in the world.

Back when I thought I knew more, probably 5.

I'm still in the phase where I think I know everything lol. I am quite stubborn, God gave me the gift of being intuitive and perceptive and I use it to help others, but sometimes I think I know everything because of it. There is still a rebellious teenager in me, stubborn and cocky as heck. I was definitely more innocent back then, before reality hit me in the face.

I've never felt like that. I think it is ignorant to think you are the only one who knows anything. :p lol
