Hey everyone!

You know, I was curious...more than being an 'early bird', 'night owl', or whatever time person...do you other singles find yourselves lying awake at night? Past, present, or future realities visiting you?

I've found that often at night when I could sleep, I seem to just linger on. It's a peak time (strangely enough) that I seem to desire interaction. It's a time when all my distractions weaken, and I have to face how I really am think, feel, and live at the moment in time.

What about you? Do you experience anything like this? What do you think it is? What do you do?

I'm not sure if this is any kind of context, but the song came to mind:
Jack's Mannequin - Hammers and Strings (A Lullaby) Lyrics - YouTube

I love the night. Right now I'm up cus I am working on a paper, but normally I am up late anyways till 1 or 2am. I am a night owl and I hate getting up early in the morning. I like being up while everyone is sleeping. I like the calmness, silence and the stillness. I feel closer to God at night. I feel more alive at night. My mind is more active. I used to go rollarblading or biking on a summers night if I couldn't sleep. The streets dead. The cool air of the night rushing through my hair as I pick up speed. Just me, the moon and the stars in the vast sky. There is a certain danger and excitement to the night.

It seems to be a trait that is common among artists. I do most of my drawing and writing into the night. I also become the most social at that time. Of course everyone I know is asleep though, except for a couple of artist friends of mine. lol So I do a lot of what I am doing right now.
What kind of paper are you writing, Arwen?

To quote The Shins

"Born to fly,

Born to gaze into Night Skies,

All I want's one more Saturday"

I can relate to the OP. I feel more alive at night than any other time.

The stars give one a window's view to the infinite.

The darkness (I've never been afraid of it) obscures and gives the imagination a chance to see to the extent that the eyes see in the day time.

It is at night that a ponder distant possibilities of the past and the future. That I think most about where magic might be hiding. That music takes on a life of its own.

I am most definitely a night person and do my best work at night. In the morning I don't even want to look at other people, let alone talk to them....especially perky day people. Gabe, I agree that the beach is amazing at night. :)

If it weren't for the necessities of working to support myself i would be completely nocturnal. I just love night time so much more for these reasons listed. It's calm, cool, dark, peaceful, people arent out as much. Not too mention the night sky is far more beautiful than daytime. On a bonus point things I like doing tend to be more prevalent at night anyways.

I am a night person. I like the quiet. I like the feeling of being the only car on the road. I like the lack of drama in life.

I like the feeling of exploring a city and being like a ghost. Walking through its streets and knowing that during the day its a completely different place.

When I lived in Maine I would go out to a Meadow in the forest and pray at like 3am. There would be deer, Mosquitos and the stillness. Sometimes there was a Moon, sometimes there was the clouds or a mist. Sometimes the sky was a brilliant array of clustered stars and cloudy galaxies. But mostly I went for the calm.

I find as I get older my sleep patterns get more crazy. Who knows when I'll be awake? I never sleep through the night...NEVER! To top it all off I am an early bird too, although I detest sunshine in vast quantities & chirping birds. lol I do enjoy the night sky & I will say this for Maine, many nights in the summer you can see the stars out,so bright. I love to just go outside (covered in skin so soft mosquito repellent) and ponder my own insignificance. A wise boy once said: "I never wash my pants. I like to keep the night on them." lol:)

I guess I'll be the resident oddball here :).

I most definitely feel the best conversations happen at night, for some reason--it's when most people seem to let their guard down. I'll stay up all night talking to someone when there's a good flow going. (I also love a bright night sky with the moon and lots of stars... The Bible says God's glory will be enough light in heaven so I always treat every clear night as if it's the last I'll ever see, because it seems there will be no night skies in heaven?)

But. I am definitely a morning person (I got that from my Mom, who would get up at 4 or 5 AM by choice.) I have odd sleeping patterns as it is--I never seem to sleep more than 4 hours at a time, but my best day is when I go to bed early and get up at around 6 (earlier if I sleep well.) I'm the kid who, throughout all my school years, even college, went to bed at 8 or 9 and got up at 3 to do my homework. I can also go to bed at 5 AM... and still be wide awake by 8.

People say they like the quiet at night... I guarantee that going to the store at 7 AM is pretty doggone quiet :). NO ONE is up at that hour and I love it, especially on a Saturday morning.

I once heard that God made us all with different waking hours and optimum times so that He can be praised (or have someone to talk to ;)) 24 hours a day.

1 or 2 in the morning? up late? night owl? HA! Amateur. I'm up til about 9-10 am. But that's earlier than before my transplant with 11am-1pm.
Even as a kid i was a night owl. 7-8 years old i couldn't fall asleep as early as my parents put me to bed. And on weekends i'd be up til 1-4am at that age.

Yeah after 3am, I get a little concerned. In the past, I have had seizures if I am still awake past 4am - lack of sleep/over tiredness causes them. My brain gets a little foggy around that time and the neurons don't work as well as they should. If I am up still at 3am, I'll take a melatonin and it makes me fall asleep.

The bible says evil deeds are done at night and that there will be only Day in heaven. Better get all your nighttime while it's still around.

Really? Where is that found in scripture? (not trying to challenge you, just curious cus I haven't come across that verse before :)) That kind of sucks. I love the night :( But maybe the feeling of how and why I love the night would be present in Heaven, so I would not require it to be night to feel it.
