Yeah, and I would have snuck in about 20 to work on during Les Miserables if SOMEONE had bothered to tell me that someone IMPORTANT in the show was going to die. Seriously. Like I said after it was over, "Couldn't they just have killed off another kid instead?!!" (Oh, those lucky DFW people, exposed to my raw and often unedited sense of humor.)

I always tell people, if I'm quiet, it's usually for a good reason. Meaning, I'm not saying what I'm really thinking.

In other news... I'm still suffering severe aftershocks from the DFW event. Not mentioning any names (ha ha ha), but I was around such good-looking and super-fit people (cough, cough, cough, Shouryu and Grace-Like-Rain) that I finally dragged myself to the gym today after about 2 weeks of slacking. Not to mention the fact that I have at least 15 Wookie Cookies, yummy beverages (like coffee with REAL CREAM, which is something I normally hardly ever have), and countless bowls of home-cooked food I need to burn off.

ARGH. What the hee haw did you people do to me??? I spent 20 minutes on weight machines, 10 on the treadmill, and 45 on a stationery bike. And the part I'm ashamed to admit is that I ACTUALLY kinda sorta LIKED IT.

Good crying grief!!! I HATE exercise. I feel like I've lost part of myself. What happened to the me I'm familiar with, who's happy to surf the internet for an entire day?!

If I turn into some kind of psycho gym rat (as opposed to the psycho couch potato that I naturally am), I'm blaming it all on you two, and it's not gonna be pretty. (I may go on a big cooking spree and try to feed you to death.)
You went to the gym, and ENJOYED it? Woohoooo! Although, if you were last at the gym only two weeks ago, then I don't think you can blame us for your new-found tolerance of exercise. You obviously already work out on at least a semi-regular basis.

Oh I hear ya. I looked at those pics and said "Egad!" ok...maybe the word wasn't that, but I'm pretty sure it had four letters. Then I weighed myself. Yep. The heaviest I've been in my.life. anyhow...have cut out sugar and most simple carbs, been eating a bunch of green leafy things with meats. So many veggies, which I kind of missed while at the setup, and have lost 7 pounds already since returning.

Hopefully, I can keep this going.
You have lost 7 pounds just since returning?? Wow! I came home about 4 pounds heavier. Hmmmm...

I know what I want for Christmas--Catherder's metabolism. (Cat, you look good at any weight, I'm pretty sure.)

Grace, I totally hear you. I was about 3 pounds heavier... and am now working on that. It was well worth it though!! Funny thing, I never thought of myself as a picky eater until I met you guys.

Another confession: I usually HATE ground turkey but I loved what Shour made. As you all know, I hate rosemary but really liked Cat's chicken dish (especially the vegetables, and I'm someone who likes chocolate, not vegetables.) I also hate raw tomatoes, which is why I didn't eat much salsa at the cafe we went too. Phew. You may be converting me into a partial gym bunny but at least you guys didn't convert me into liking uncooked tomatoes- BLEH. Thank goodness part of me is still... me. :p

Melita: If you PM me an address to send a bracelet, I'll send you one from my stash. :)

Reece: Alas, the bracelet you showed is made of hemp cord, which is a medium I've never worked with. I might be able to make something similar with other materials... I'll have a look next time I go to the store.

As an alternative, if you like that Say I Love You Bracelet and have a look online. At first I thought it was made with round beads but I see the ones they're selling are more rough-cut, "natural" stone shapes. Would you be interested in something like that? The biggest challenge would be finding the right beads. PM me with your wrist size, preferences, and a place to send it and we'll see what we can do. ;)

I'm ready to flip some tables. DPS is INSANE. The absolute most dysfunctional department I have ever in my life encountered.

To set up a driver's test, you have to call EXACTLY one month in advance. They will only schedule them for one month from the time you call. (ie: call June 7, scheduled for July 7.) And they only make appointments on Tuesdays or Thursdays. And they only schedule tests FOR Tuesdays and Thursdays. So you can't call on any day where the one-month-later day might fall on a M/W/F... or a weekend, or a holidays, because they can't give you an appointment. You actually have to call them back on a day that they are (a) open, (b) accepting appointment calls, (c) haven't already filled up for that day, and (d) can give you an appointment that very day for a test scheduled exactly one month later that also falls on a day when they are (a) open, and (b) doing tests.

All of this can be handled with just 3-4 calls which include a minimum of 30 minutes of time spent on hold, or an in-person visit which includes 1.5+ hours of time waiting in line.

I need a hug.

That is so beyond stupid/frustrating of that agency that I won't justify the method as a legit practice by responding to it ...

Aw...but I'll happily pm you. What time in the pm? ^_~

I don't know my wrist size... I'll send you my address, if you send me yours... MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!! ...but seriously... ._.

...and I found a few interesting takes on that bracelet that I might be interested in...

For a basic stone texture and color scheme Idea...though none of these are exactly like the bracelet, which is why I added that scene from the anime in there! ^_~

Okay...so I guess that leaves us with shipping/money order and a need for size and address...

(Did I resolve anything? Hmm...doesn't look like it...)

I'm more partial to the white, blue, and black aspects of the bracelet, so feel free to understate the pink and green.

you people and the scales... seriously if i weighed myself that often i'd need someone to talk me off a ledge at least... oh twice a day. i'm convinced that i've gained 5 lbs consuming nothing but oxygen in only one afternoon.

plus i have a hard time entrusting my sanity to something that i can alter by simply leaning to one side or drinking a a quart of water previous to.

find a tape measure. sanity restored. or, when i am doing really well, a certain pair of jeans. i've discovered that nothing sounds the alarm faster than when one has to resort to a sucking noise to zip up said jeans. : )

p.s. oh, and if it makes you feel any better the absolute WORST dmv experience in my life was at the rowlett, tx dmv. there was a pasture full of gov't employees in christmas sweaters, and even after four hours i don't think i saw a single one abstain from goofy time-wasting behavior for a full five minutes. i was nearly homicidal and was stupefied that more violence hasn't broken out in TX gov't offices. ; p

Holy cow, Grace.

I was about to draw a diagram just to even try to understand all of their stupid rules!!!! I have to say though... If you do wind up flipping a table, I want pictures. And a video. I want to use it to show to people who may or may not give me trouble ("Oh yeah??? You'd better think this through, or you'll be dealing with THIS--my personal bodyguard!!")

Ok, maybe not, but I'd seriously be checking myself if I saw you flip a table.

*HUGE HUGS*. I also think I need to pour you another very tall glass of peachy orange juice and let you cry on my shoulder.

Reece: I'll take a look at those links when I can :). Just send me your wrist measurement and whether you want it to fit loosely or snugly. I have to warn you though that it may take me a while. As in, months, because I have a lot going on. But, we will figure something out.

And as long as I know where to send it, no worries, and nothing owed. It's a gift to you from me for always being such a good friend here. <3

(Jilly, thank you much for the link. I'm hoping my local store will have something because it'll just be easier, but I'll check it out.)

Gemstone Beads - Shipwreck Beads

SERIOUSLY look at this page, Kim. Sorry; not sure what type of beads go in the bracelet thing you and Reece were chatting about, but I got the impression it was gemstone chips.

EDIT: I read Reece's post after this. They are gemstone chips in the links he posted. Not very expensive, and SO beautiful :D!

speaking of wrist measurements and bracelets and the like... does anyone have any weirdly sentimental jewelry they wear all the time? i notice some folks won't wear any jewelry all the time, and some are fine with it. like they won't notice it.

and unrelated, several months ago i gifted a friend with one of my bracelets that i sort of didn't like all that much and she had commented on it several times. plus i noticed that her wrists looked smaller than mine. i asked her, "how big ARE your wrists". she didn't know. well, i had her try the bracelet on, and it looked... well, big! i think the bracelet was 6.5", and fit me well. i think 6.5" is pretty average so i am thinking "holy cow, what size ARE your wrists???"

i measured her wrist and it was a 5.25" wrist. naturally, i fed her immediately.

kim, since you make bracelets, what kind of range do you observe for bracelets? i haven't really paid much attention to this stuff before, but don't you think 5.25" is very tiny? i need to remember to bring her some multi-minerals. : )

Hi Gyps,

Well, I just measured my own wrist and it's 6", so yes, I'd say 5.25" is very tiny, though I'm pretty sure that's about what my Mom is. I know it's mostly about bone structure and she has a very tiny frame and weighs around 90 lbs.

Most of the people I know also prefer anything around their wrists to be looser, so I guess I never really gave the measurements all that much though, to be honest...

The funny thing is, I like making things but usually give them away and don't wear much myself. As for bracelets, I prefer things made out of elastic cord for a snug fit (I can't have anything dangling around at work or it would get caught on everything) and are very cheap (aka disposable) because my hands and arms get beat up so much. I love rings but never buy or wear them anymore because for this stage in my life it's just not practical.

I've also always really been attracted to jewelry on guys. There's just something about it that really draws me in. Every piece is personal and the wearer has it on for a reason--I always want to ask the person what the story is behind the piece he's wearing.

According to my measurements, my wrist is approximately 11" in diameter. I would like my bracelet to be tight enough that it will not fall off my hand *hand with from knuckle of thumb to side probably roughly around 1.5', and loose enough not to leave indentations in my skin.

Too tight example:

Rhinestone-Bra-Straps.jpg

Too loose example:

...and I'll message you the info as the time draws near.

If you would have seen and asked me about this bracelet:

I would have told you the story, and as requirement of the bracelet, given the bracelet to you, instructing you to tell anyone who asks you the story and give it to them, else-wise, keep the bracelet forever. ^_^

I've had and given away 2 I think. Never bought more or ran across anyone with once since.

yeah, you're right about jewelry preferences.

stuff that i wear on sundays or dress up, i like more slack in it. i like them to slide over sleeves, drape over my hands, slink and flutter, shimmer and dance with my gestures. but i have to take them all off as soon as i hit the front door. it's like i don't notice them when i'm "out" but inside, the jewelry must come off and the hair needs to go up.

stuff that i wear all the time, i has to be snug. the only jewelry i wear ALL the time are three toe rings that i wear on my second toe on my left foot. i've worn them for a number of years now and significant to me. in fact, when i take them off on occasion, i feel "off" until they're back on.

i also go through periods of time wear i wear a bracelet as a reminder of something, usually a discipline or something private that serves to provide a tactile reminder of the commitment or discipline. the last time was when i wore this green bracelet for 1 year and 2 months, until i intentionally broke it.

as to guys wearing jewelry, i am kind of hit and miss. in my experience if a guy is wearing a pinky ring or a thick gold chain we're probably not going to have much in common. ; p i like more interesting stuff. but i have to admit, i am really just attracted to simple, masculine plain. the metrosexual boom that first started up, and guys thought it was really cool to get manicures? that was sort of painful for me. i can appreciate the fact that most guys will accept a little uni-brow prevention/maintenance with a minimum of fuss.

there's something really attractive about all that clean-cut, masculine and unfroufrou'ed type that smell of a recent shower and look like they wash their hands on regular basis. guys who you're pretty sure don't sleep among a carnage of dirty dishes and you're almost sure keep a ready supply of clean underwear on hand.

i know, i know. it's funny how you develop these preferences when you can remember a day when you would spend time at the boyfriend's place, but would spend the first hour cleaning it before you'd sit down any place, much less use the restroom. that boyfriend who was the inspiration for keeping medical nitrile gloves in my purse so that i wouldn't have to touch anything before the kitchen and bathroom reached minimum standards of cleanliness.

anyway... to the normal looking guys who just look like guys and smell like soap. we dig you. : )
