i admit, i got my insurance through obamacare because i can't afford insurance. for 2015, i was looking at policies at the end of 2014, and of course, i noticed the less you pay, the higher the deductible is. unfortunately, people don't see that. all they see is they pay less out of pocket for the premium.
i hate telling people they have a high deductible, which means the insurance isn't going to pay anything until that deductible is met. "but i have insurance!" is something i hear frequently. sadly, they don't look at the benefits. or they have a small copay at a medical doctor and believe it's the same at every office regardless of the type of service. gah.

I'm back from the short trip to attend my friend's wedding. It was a Hindu wedding, so I cannot post the pictures of the wedding here, because they contain many Hindu rituals and customs.
Here is a pic of the stage on which the wedding ceremony took place.
Similar to what happens in a Christian wedding, the groom has to wait for the bride to make her grand appearance. In some Hindu cultures, the groom performs some rituals while he waits for his bride. This is a pic of the bride making her appearance. The square thing that is held over her head is a ceremonial umbrella. The bride's party is led by a band of musicians, then followed by her (with the umbrella held by her brothers) and finally, by her family members.

Also, she was decked with diamonds, rubies, gold and whatnot. I think the pair of earrings that she wore for the wedding alone would have cost at least $3,000. And there were 3 different ceremonies including the wedding, which meant that she would have spent $6,000 only on earrings. Even the family members wear expensive jewellery and clothes for the wedding. I think the total value of all the jewellery in the wedding hall would exceed $200,000!
After the wedding, we proceeded to the groom's town where the reception was held. According to the custom in India, anybody who is invited for the wedding has to be hosted by the couple getting married. The only expenses borne by the guests would be the travel and the food. Overall, we had a nice time and it was a much-needed break from my busy grind. I hope the newly wed have a healthy married life. I also hope that they discover Christ.

Our only hope is to be strong in the Lord. Outside of the Lord we are dead, lifeless corpses unable to lift even a pinky for God's glory. Outside of the Lord our only strength is to live in death, death to the utmost, full of sin and thriving therein. Being strong in the Lord means casting our faith, our hope, our lifeless sin upon him, because he paid for it on the cross.
Being strong in the Lord means taking on the life he died to give us. It means simply accepting everything we could never pay for. We could put every penny we've ever earned in life in the bank, compound it with 100% interest, and that couldn't buy one sand grain worth of what we need.
Accept the salvation Jesus purchased for you. Let it remove your sins. Let his righteousness be yours. Be strong in the Lord.

I totally understand what you were feeling. My first time in front of a large class of mixed ages was terrifying. However...the more worked with them...the easier it became. The key is organization. Run centers (a small group of kids working in an area like blocks or coloring, while another small group can be listening to the story, or something along that line) It will be less stressful for you and the kids will enjoy it more. Which means less disciplinary problems.
Our pastor bought a thinkpad for the church!!!
Mind you, there is nothing wrong with this. For the task at hand, a T510 is what I would have recommended. And when I asked him what led him to get a thinkpad he said about what I would have given as the reason - "I knew it would be moved around a lot so I wanted something built like a tank."
But what puzzles me still is how he found out about them. He never did ask me what kind of computer he should get, and thinkpads are not what normal (non-nerd) people think of by default. Normal people get dells or hps or maybe acers. I'm accustomed to thinkpads being the province of nerds and businessmen employed by higher-end companies.

No, he's a motorhead. He was so wrapped up in his Mustang that he had to sell it because it was becoming too important to him. (He has mentioned it multiple times in sermons.)

Thanks for sharing your adventures with us, Roh. Just curious, how do you as a committed Christian prepare for entering a wedding steeped in Hinduism. Do you just pray beforehand or is there more to it? Cheers, bro.

That's a good question bro, and honestly, it is quite difficult to answer because the preparation would depend on the relationship I have with the person getting married. I have skipped numerous weddings of acquaintances and even family members, dropping in only for the reception. But, in this case, it was a close friend of mine, so I had to go for the wedding. I don't do much - I pray and cover myself with the blood of Jesus and go for the wedding. Also, barring the parents and the siblings, the others are usually not required to participate in the rituals, so I am safe. In case I am asked to, I'll politely decline it or I'll pretend that I have to answer an important phone call.
