Yeah nobody ever emails me anyway.. :( LOL.. so I don't have to worry about that.. but sometimes when I'm searching for pics, I'll get a fake or malicious web attack, which Norton has always blocked very well.. but it's so expensive, like almost $90 so if I could use a free one, I'd like to..

My situation's kind of unique because I don't have people emailing me jokes or funny pics or videos so I'm not tempted to click on strange files. And anyway, I think 99 of the viruses out there don't really do much of anything besides send an email to all your contacts or change your browser settings. The really dangerous ones like ransomware are the ones u have to watch for, but its usually when people are tempted to click on something which they aren't sure where it came from or why they received it.

I wonder if its really an attack or if Norton just thinks its an attack. I only wonder because I'm always pic searching and have never had that happen or gotten a virus that way.

wat is this ransomware of which you speak? :D

Man I sure am grateful for linux. I only learn about viruses from other people's conversations. I also don't know anything about defrag or mandatory automatic updates you can't shut off.

Ransomware is what the big, important organizations who proably pay millions for IT people to keep their systems going get because their systems are never updated :p

Urgh, and I hated having to update Windows in the office because of this. We had a few small businesses that got attacked. It was sad, actually.

Linux is probably intimidating to non-computer savvy small-business owners.

They all should just get an iPad.

What I have had happen is when I click the ink to take me to the page where the image is hosted, another page opens up warning me that the site ahead is not considered safe. I do not recall the exact wording, and it does not happen often. It gives you the option to throw caution to the wind and proceed anyways :)

One time I took an address someone had posted here, an image url, and pasted it in a new window, and as soon as I did, my computer shut itself down. I had one heck of a time trying to restart it again, and eventually was given the option to reload Windows, which I did, without losing any of my personal files. :)

My daughter got a computer virus years ago that changed all files with a certain extension into something else. It may even have been ALL her jpgs that were targeted :p Then she no longer had access to those files, since they could not be opened :(

It targets large organizations and locks them out of their computers until they pay an actual ransom. The biggest attack happened in england just a few months ago. It targeted a large system of hospitals and they had to actually shut some hospitals down. It was actually their fault for not upgrading their operating systems.

Hey Magenta! I'm glad you're still here too. Haha, I've had the last few days off so I've been suffering from boredom.

Wish I've seen those posts lol, would've been great for memes

This song haunts me. It doesn't remind me of a romantic interest...it reminds me of my dad. I haven't seen him or talked to him in 8 years and when I call he never seems to be home. It doesn't tear him apart anymore. We're just both running out of time. :(

The top one happens when I have an antivirus installed but its usually a false alarm. The antivirus thinks its unsafe because someone didn't like the website or thought it was suspicious and flagged it as unsafe through their antivirus so anyone who clicks on it gets the message "this site may be unsafe"...

The bottom one could have been a hard-drive problem. Did you find a virus after you got it back up and running? If not, it was probably a badly unmaintained hard-drive (low on memory, badly fragmented, lots of spyware or programs running in the background). I think I remember you mentioning that you usually have numerous windows open at the same time, like 60 of them or something. I can't even count that high! That eats up your available memory and once your memory hits the wall it will shut down or crash your computer. That's probably what happened. Posting the pic was the last straw.

Isn't AVG good? When I had a PC (almost a decade ago, so my info is probably outdated), I never had problems using AVG. But then I had MalwareBytes too.
AVG was bought out by Avast. Both are irritating in their daily messages to push you to purchase their paid version.

You have a good memory! Yeah, the number I have mentioned a couple of times was around fifty :D I only have twenty five tabs open now :) My computer has a lot of memory and Ram.

I did have a computer virus, one of those that underlines words and puts a green arrow pointing at other key words, ugh how annoying, and while that was there I could not click on that page to copy anything without having an about blank page opening, again, very frustrating and time consuming, I watched the bottom address bar load ads what seemed like endlessly LOL. Sometimes I would have to try five or six times before I could copy the info I wanted, even Scripture pages (Bible Gateway) were like that.

After my computer shut down, I tried and tried to restart it but it would not, and it could not even do a reset to a prior date, and then a page came up with multiple options, the most sensible one being to reload windows, because otherwise it would have stayed as it was. I was really happy not to lose all my personal files! And the virus was still there as soon as it reloaded but went away shortly after that (don't ask me how). Windows defender or something tells me every so often that it has scanned my computer and found nothing, or that it just protected me from something.

I had run a number of virus removers before that but they did not catch whatever it was. Even herd protect did not catch it, though it was similar to something my desktop computer had had once before and herd protect got it the first time :p

People have no idea how much a genuine kind person can really make someones day. There aren't to many of them but when people are kind, (and I can tell) I feel this nice warmth inside me.

Can people who are not currently single post in this forum? I ask b/c it seems like an interesting forum but I am not looking for anything either. My wife left me and really I just want to make fiends. I hope that's ok.

No problem James.

Most of us aren't really looking for something (though some have ended up with something anyway)

Don't tell anyone but we've got some regulars around here who are married and still post in singles frequently. You're more than welcome to post but I'm not so sure about your evil plan to make fiends of us all (and that is how typos get turned into humor).

And of course some people claim felines are already fiends. I've found most felines to be good friends though. =^.^=

Anyway, howdy James. The Singles Forum has become the default cool place to hang out for married and single people alike, and very few people here are "looking." We just like to talk. :D
