Oh but marriage is a Christian thing. God created this world and everything in it and you better believe he created marraige too.

Mark 10:6-9
"But at the beginning of creation God 'made them male and female.'' For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.' So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate."

Marriage is intended to be a sacred union between a man a woman and God.

Walt I understand what you're saying but the reality is that Christians are no more immune to divorce than anyone else. That's because marriage is not a Christian thing it's a human thing and Christians are still human. Prenups may just help avoid a tricky situation further down the track. Marriage is not just a relationship it's also a financial contract of sorts.
MSnail, I have to disagree. Marriage is a covenant we make before God, a promise, a vow, and God takes that very seriously. Our salvation is a covenant Jesus made with us and to God it is a commitment that He will never break. I believe He wants us to approach marriage the same way. In this way, I believe for a Christian, marriage is a "Christian thing." For a Christian EVERYTHING is a Christian thing.

Also, Christ says that a husband is to love his wife as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her! (Ephesians 5:25) I'm thinking a pre-nup says nothing about selflessness, but just the opposite. It's covering your own back, when your first thought and prayer should be, "God, teach me how to love my wife as Christ loved the church?" Personally, I would be very hurt if my fiance asked me for a pre-nup and would definitely reconsider the marriage. Don't want to offend anyone, just give you some food for thought. Bless you brother!

Thanks for your insight guys. To those who said marriage is a christian thing, if so, why are we so concerned about imposing the Christian view of marriage onto society? I guess my point was, when you marry you don't marry Jesus you marry another human being with all their faults and marriage goes right back to Genesis and so it is more of a human thing than a Christian thing. There's no special rules in the bible about how to have a wedding, wedding rings etc, yet we do it, why? Because of society and tradition - again, a human thing.

Yet, despite marriage being a Christian thing, apparently marriage for life is not, with a divorce rate no better than the secular world.
I see a pre-nup as no difference to getting insurance for your car in case you have an accident, getting insurance for your home in case there's a fire, a pre-nup is like marriage insurance for if things don't go as planned. Young christian people get divorced, old christian people get divorced, it happens.

That said, I personally wouldnt try to get a pre-nup, probably for this reason:

"I would be very hurt if my fiance asked me for a pre-nup and would definitely reconsider the marriage."

It's not something we're used to in the West.

I would not marry a man who wanted me to sign a pre-nup. When I get married it will be for life. There will be no need for a pre-nup. I know people change and things change, but there should be a level of trust there...where is the trust with a pre-nup?
