    Lightbulb SINGLE PARENTS

I have not noticed a thread for single parents. I thought it would be nice to start one. In my opinion, we should have a parenting room. Whatcha think?

    Questions:

Can you offer some scripture for raising children alone without a spouse?

Is there a role the son/daughter takes when the father is gone?

What burden lies with the father/mother who no longer provides for his/her family, and for the one that does?

If you are quoting or paraphrasing scripture, please differentiate that from your opinion.

    Thanks

Well I have been single parenting for 14yrs now..sigh. I got married at 19, and was divorced by 22. Then I became a christian 2 months later, aargh! My son was only 18mnths old. He is now nearly 16. Wow, what a long arduous journey it has been. God has been with me every step of the way. It has been one of the loneliest, isolating, saddest journeys I have ever been on. On the other hand, it has also been filled with closeness, memories, bonding, etc. My son's father has been one of those that unfortunately didn't jump gun-ho into parenthood, so he hasn't been very involved with my son. My son is just dealing with that hurt and anguish with him now in his life. Its a journey for both of them to work through and find healing with. I couldn't tell you off hand any scriptures about single parenting, but I know of one that is found in psalms that says God sets the lonely in families.

Thankgoodness I have a very special and close relationship with my inlaws still. They have been there for me every single day and I see them regularly. They have really made my son and I feel like part of their family. I am heaps closer to them than my own family! I still even spend Christmas day with my ex and his family and even my ex'es new wife and child.

I can say I have grown and learnt a lot of wisdom over the years. I am here if anyone needs to talk or advice. Although I am going through the whole teenager thing now and getting grey hairs!!

    God Bless.

I believe, that children shouldn't worry about anything that they shouldn't have to worry about. It's the responsibility for the parent to provide for the children, mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. This way the child can grow up wholly and well rounded. The parent in a single parent atmosphere should take on both roles of the parents so the child doesn't have to worry. In my case, both the parents are there but, we aren't together at this point in our lives. So, the only thing our daughter will be confused about is why we're not living under the same roof. Which will be difficult to explain.

It is hard for a single parent to take on both roles. Hard but not impossible. My pastor at church was just talking about fathers and the important role that they play in the household. I am a single mother my child's father has no contact with my daughter. I work, clean, cook, and go to school, plus fit in the other stuff like DR.s appointments and stuff.

I grew up as the oldest child, with a single mother. It really sucks to have to take on the role of the father. Kind of ruins your childhood.
