The best way for a guy to get my attention is to simply approach me confidently, introduce himself and say something interesting or ask an unusual question.
I rarely approach a guy first, but there have been a couple of times. I heard a guy speak once at a seminar and was very impressed by him. I observed him for a bit during the reception, realized that he was on the shy side...and that he liked chocolate covered strawberries.
So, after a few minutes, I took a strawberry and two glasses of champagne with me, walked over and said, "It's the last one. Care to share?"
He smiled. I sat down. Five minutes into the conversation I admitted that it wasn't the last one. He said, "I know", smiled and kept talking.

Talk to me about something interesting, or that you noticed about me, or that we have in common. Introduce yourself, first say your name, then ask for mine. Thats proper versus, 'hey baby can I get your digits?' Its nice to put out your hand to shake mine.
The most memorable interaction I had with a guy was when I was about 8 or so. I was at day camp and it was a horrible experience. It downpoured most of the first day and we had to wear make-shift garbage bag rain ponchos. We went to go roast marshmellows, and another kid's marshmellow (while still on fire) fell on to my hand burning me. I had to get bandaged up and all that. To make matters even worse, I didn't know how to swim very well, and some girls made fun of me in the pool. Last day before getting on a bus, a little boy about my age came up to me, took my bandaged hand and kissed it.
That was memorable.

I was lassoed one time while I was walking down the street with my friend. Yep. The guy was riding in the back of his friend's pickup, and they drove by twice before it actually worked, but I absolutely got lassoed like a cow.
No, that's not my favorite attention-grabbing action. In fact, I was kinda really angry. However, it is highly memorable.
I like my husband's way better- after not seeing each other for a year or two after high school, I saw him at the mall one day and he walked up to me and said, "Hey, you're that girl that used to ask me for a dollar every day at lunch to buy ice cream, right? Wanna go to a movie with me?"
No, that's not my favorite attention-grabbing action. In fact, I was kinda really angry. However, it is highly memorable.

Once in the chat room I noticed that there was a long line of pink names. I figured that surely within a minute or so a guy would come in and be somewhere in the middle of the girls. So, I typed up a little message. It said "The girls have you surrounded; surrender your chocolate immediately, ______". I left the underscored area blank, and when the next guy to be in the middle of the girls' names came in, I quickly added his screen name to the end and hit "enter". He immediately PM'd me and -well, it didn't end up working out, but we talked for a few weeks, and had a really neat friendship/minor courtship/whatever you want to call it.
BTW, I hadn't really done it to be flirty (I would've done it to a married guy). I'm just the kind of girl who does things like that. Anyway....

I play a couple instruments. Anyway, I was at a convention and had brought my ocarina with me and was playing some tunes. I met another guy who played as well and he started playing along, harmonizing, taking the melody, and answering verses. Music can be very touching. We spent the rest of the con together.
