New thread since this is a bit of a side street from the original "married by age 50" thread by Seoul.

What gets me is that there seem to very few younger men, older women couples...I mean, why is it acceptable one way and not the other? Anyway...
Im glad you mentioned this Reece. This is something I have been pondering. I've in the past (eHarmony or whatever) been approached by younger men (in their 20s) and I admit I was curious, a bit amused at my own expense, and incredulous. What would a guy in his 20s see in a woman my age, with teenage daughters no less! I am probably doing them a grave disservice by dismissing them out of hand, and I feel bad about that. My first reaction is just to assume they are being friendly. That pretty much has to be it, right?? I just have a hard time wrapping my brain around it. Not the age itself so much as the difference in life situations. I dunno... thoughts from anyone on younger men and older women?

(Having said that, I know several couples with significantly older women and younger men, and they have all been successful. So I know it's not impossible. Maybe it's a pride thing? I feel like my husband should be at least as old and wrinkly as me. Haha.)

I've always preferred older women due to the fact they seem to know what they want and they don't play games either. Not much older but like 5 years or so. Its a double bonus if they have kids since that means they probably also have Capri-Sun juices at the house. And man do I love a good Capri-Sun.

I don't know, I really don't. But amazing eyes and a beautiful smile are incredibly attractive and maybe those 20 year olds (while too young) recognised that quality.

Maybe you'll find that special woman one day who will buy Capri Sun just for you. ;)

(The not-playing-games thing makes a lot of sense. Thanks for helping me understand this stuff.)

I have been married twice and both times it was to older women. My first wife was 2 months and two days older than me and my second wife was 3 months older than me.

About 2 years ago I had to greatly discourage a friend of mine from trying to make our friendship something more seeing as he was 18 and I was 28.... sadly he was very serious... I thought I was just being a older sister type friend but he took it as interest in him. It shocked the socks off of me when I found out he was serious.

to get closer to those teen daughters..

and yes I am serious a lot of guys these days are pervs.
Those guys don't know who they are dealing with! But yeah, I know that's a serious concern for any woman with children of any age. I went to a class before becoming divorced to learn how to help and protect kids as much as possible. A LARGE portion of the class was focused on identifying sexual predators who target single mothers. :(

You're welcome. As for me, well...I'm never really afforded the chance, similar to your OP statement. I actually work with a woman turning 31 who is married to a 24-year old. They are quite happy, and have been married a little over a year. Another good friend of mine, Garret, is 23, and his fiancee Holly is 30 something. They've had their rough spots with society and her children, but their God-fearing, honest people who love one another. They've been dating about 3 years or so now...

Anyway, I just find it strange, those are some of the only examples I personally know or can think of. I wonder why this is. I mean, I've met many women who are twice my age that are very attractive. Strange really, the perceptions people have...

Could it be maturity? Perhaps responsibility or experience? Maybe the social implications or some other dissuasion? Idk...but I find it curious. Very curious...

As I said before, I'd just be happy to have someone to love who loved me back and that was all God-approved/honoring while doing so... but seriously.

Maturity would definitely have something to do with it. We've all heard that males mature more slowly than females, blah-de-blah, yardy-yah. Yes, in most cases it's true, but not all. That said I'd think a woman around my age or younger would suit me, mainly due to maturity and (if I were to get married - hopefully one day) having the role of spiritual leader in the family home. I'm not immature but I still have some things to learn.

My fiance was 31 and i was 20 (11 years). That didn't work, but the next woman i dated was 10 years older than i. I can tell you assuredly a woman in her 30's has plenty to offer a man in his 20's. I just won't mention what those things are hahaha.

I don't agree with older women not playing games. I work with plenty of women over 35 who cheat and flirt just to get something they want. As long as a guy will do something for them, they'll string him along regardless of whether they can stand him or not.

For me, I don't see age as a factor too much. Though I couldn't date someone more than 10 or 11 years older, just because I'd feel weird. Although that standard may have to change as I have more in common with 50 year olds :/

50 year-old women enjoy "Watchmen"?

The first thinf I would say is, i never led my life by what was socially acceptable anyway. Society is an idiot sometimes, and i dont let it dictate my personal views and actions.

To carry on from that, i think that it really boils down to individual viewpoints. If an older woman chooses to be afraid of the social 'repercussions', then she won't date a younger guy. Same goes for the younger guy.

I think, generally, women tend to be more matute than men. So a woman of 40 with a man of 25 might well be a mismatch of needs and interests, not to mention experience. Whereas a man of 40 and a woman of 25 might well click. Not always, but maybe. A woman who wants security and stability and maturity, and a man who wants to provide and have children and of course, have a beautiful young woman on his arm. All throughout history men tend to desire younger women, and women tend to desire older men.

In saying that, I also see no reason, if a young man and older women want to make a go of it and are willing to bridge gaps, why it cant work. The only limit is how much they are willing to ignore what society might say.

But to be honest, I don't believe in marriage at the moment, or in relationships, or in fact in modern women. I think a man stands to loose too much nowadays from entering into a marriage agreement. I think a man's place in modern society is somewhat lost and I think we get penalized emotionally, mentally and financially for being male. The neo-feminist direction of a lot of our social reform and social movement is only worsening my outlook on relationships.

So I wouldn't date or marry a younger woman much less an older one. At least not how things are at the moment. Perhaps in the future.
