Have you ever seen someone on the street and did a double take?

Maybe you wave? Maybe you just get excited all by yourself?

Or maybe its a smell...

And its like you're back there in that place.

My room mate just bought a car recently and I commented that it smelled good. So then he went and put the same BRAND "New Car Smell" that I had in my Mini.

When I sat in it again. I was like.... Whoa... this is too weird. Too many Memories attached to this smell.

Then tonight I was in a Coffee shop listening to a friend do her thing and out of the corner of my eye, I see someone. I'm like in amazement that she looks like someone I used to know.

Yes, Liamson, as a matter of fact, YOU remind me of someone, especially the way your mind works.

Smells:

Spray starch and bean soup remind me of laundry day when I was a little girl. My mom seemed to iron and starch everything. She would put on soap operas and a pot of bean soup, and iron for hours. My stepdad did ask her to stop starching his boxers.

Jergens lotion's scent reminds me of my grandmother. Snuggling up with her at naptime when I was tiny.

Lily of the valley reminds me of the first time I fell in love. I was fifteen and he bought me a bottle of lily of the valley cologne. One of the most amazing scents ever. I planted some under the bedroom window of my old house in Tennessee. :)

The scent of coffee reminds me of my son. He loves the stuff. I hate the taste, but the scent makes me smile. :)

Old Spice reminds me of hugs from my stepdad. :) Not a good choice if you are dating someone. A lot of dads smell like this and that would make it creepy. :)

Jullianna...Your mother reminds me of my mother's ironing obsession. She even ironed the bed sheets. When I was very young and required a bit of dicipline I was given the ironing chore. I can remember standing on a stool and ironing my dad's shirts. I absolutely despised that chore but I am now very good at ironing! The memory is very vague but I think she may have even used the same spray starch pictured in your post. My father even wore the blue work shirts pictured on the can. Although she didn't make bean soup on ironing day, she did make it quite often. Lilly of the valley was her favorite flower. My grandpa wore Old Spice cologne. The smell of coffee holds many memories of friends and family at our kitchen table. I still make my coffee in the same pot my great grandmother used. Your post brought back memories that haven't come to mind in years.

Smells are a strong reminder for me. The smell of plastic reminds me of my grandmother's house for some reason. (Not a bad smell.)

The smell of Bath and Body Works "Cashmere" reminds me of the house we moved into for a few months last year while looking for a place to buy. Someone gave us a Cashmere candle and I burned it all the time in an effort to drown out the "rental" smell. One smell takes me right back to that place.

I used to wear a perfume called "Taboo" when I was a teen. Smelling that smell now is like sitting in the youth van going to a concert, all over again. I can feel my friends all around me, feel the bump of the van on the road, and the excitement of going somewhere awesome. Love that...

The smell of a pipe is very comforting to me. Smells like our pastor from my childhood church. We used to spend a lot of time with them in their home, and when I was very young I remember he and a few other men smoking pipes and discussing theology together.

Fresh cut grass smells like spring, and that first really cold breath of air in the winter smells like snow to me.

Tintin reminds me so much of one of my very close friends. The more posts of his that I read, the more I'm convinced my Alaskan friend has an Australian counterpart.

Love, that's very cool.

I've been asked by people if I was on last season's "Beauty and the Geek". The promo showed a bearded man who looked quite similar to me. I found it funny. Sometimes I play along with people and other times I just tell them it wasn't me.

I suppose I have many, but despite how I seem to constantly be thinking...I always miss things like this. I don't often think about the simple, enjoyable parts of life, and that's a shame really... I suppose there are many reasons for that, but that in itself is another thread.

As for me, let me think...

There was once a time when the smell of brute was associated with my Dad, because he wore it almost solely for years.

http://content.artofmanliness.com/uploads//2012/01/brut.jpg

My mom also had a certain perfume she wore that would remind me of her, but I forgot the brand...

I've met many people who looked or acted similar to someone else I know, and even had a few double take moments. Lol, even as far as to stop them to talk, only to realize that it was someone else.

Now, I'm sure there are several such associations all throughout my life and memories, but they don't get triggered often, obviously, because I struggle to recall them.

lol, I never noticed that but she does. Julianna looks a LOT like Nicole Kidman did back in the day when she was young. We've got a few celebrity look alikes around here. Liamson reminds me of someone too but I can't think of the dude's name.

I thought Arwen was more a cross of Katie Holmes and Amy Lee, but maybe that's just me. As for Jullianna, yes she totally looks like a young Nicole Kidman. :)

The smell of Victoria's Secret perfume strawberries and champagne and the sound of most any Nickle Creek song remind me of one of the best winters of my life spent with my soon to be (at that time) sister n law. We did everything together and spent almost every moment together... it was priceless. I'm so very glad we are still so close.

Memory is so strangely strong by such passing things. It's fascinating. There are two lotion smells that remind me of bad times; I had to get rid of both of them. One was one I had been using during a painful time, and another was one that smelled like a candle that had burned at the place of said bad time. There are certain landscapes and cloud formations, even, that remind me of good times spent elsewhere.

Those are all kind of depressing, so I'll add some good ones. Cinnamon and pine remind me of Christmas (which I adore), and the hair conditioner I'm currently using reminds me of my grandma's previous house from 10+ years ago. Driving in the winter with the heat blasting reminds me of when my sister and I would drive home from college together for Christmas break. I may or may not have hollered at someone I thought was someone else, more than once... :D

One time, someone sent through an envelope with cash in it in the drive up at work at my bank. After they left, I kept smelling that envelope because I KNEW it reminded me of something, and there was a flash in my mind that I couldn't quite grasp but I knew it was there. Never did figure it out, but I felt pretty silly for it.

haha, that's awesome! Your similarity to my friend is uncanny, and it's not just looks (though you ALSO look alike!) :p He's your age, is a writer, english teacher, very imaginative, quirky, loves children, and the way you two discuss theology is so identical it's almost scary. o_O

I get told my a lot of people that I look like America Ferrera. The only bummer is that the first time this happened, the person used the name of the character that actress was most known for at the time.

"Hey.. wow! You look exactly like ugly betty!"

..um, thank you.

I actually think Jules looks like Amy Adams more than Nicole Kidman. But that's just my opinion.
