It's horrifically hot, but there is great rock formations and wildlife. Though personally I love up north like prescott or around flagstaff where it SNOWS.

I've lived in Nebraska, Louisiana, Florida, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, California, Nevada, Kentucky and Arizona.. and I think there's a state or two I've missed... My dad was a 48 state long haul truck driver and I've been to more states than I can list and would have chances of listing the ones I haven't been to... The point is:

Arizona is the best state. It is the cleanest and most pet friendly state I've ever lived. It's also the state that's starving per capita with a ratio of pay vs. food in homes... BUT... even though you are either making it and living well or NOT... it's still an awesome state. Yes it's hot.. really hot.. sweltering hot.. did I mention hot, it's only hot 4 months out the year.

Let me explain hot. Hot is 92-106 degree Fahrenheit

ahhh wise people will say .. but doesn't it get to like 118 degree in Arizona. Answer: YES .. but anything after 107 degrees, your body has stopped fighting the heat and trying to escape and spends more time hibernating or shutting down the fight/flight mode and you learn to just roll with it or die of heat stroke. .. SINCE everyone else is also in the roll with it mode, no one dares to say word one to another about rolling with it... in fact it is simply accepted.

from 70-91 degrees, you can beat the heat in the pool or air conditioning and if you are a real trooper, simply in the shade.

I say it's not hot until unopened bottles and cans blow up inside your car and you come back to a sticky residue and what looks like a small sugar bomb went off inside your vehicle or when you come back and your steering wheel has melted into a U-Shaped art masterpiece.... or your shifter has melted into your seat console. Or my favorite... when you are wearing shorts and you sit on your vinyl seat only to find out it's melted plastic and it sticks to the backs of your legs as if someone's had a blow torch on it for hours before your arrival.

Noteworthy point: Arizona has dry heat but No Breeze... IF there is a Breeze you have to seek shelter ASAP because if you breath in any wind in AZ you risk catching Valley Fever commonly found in a Haboob(google haboob).. where tiny spores enter your lungs and you sound like DarlinNadia when things bloom. Valley Fever stays with you, I think for the rest of your life. While anti-biotics knock out the worst of it.. it incubates until something blooms in my honest opinion.

Even with all the Bad stuff, I still Love Arizona, and I'm HOT right now it is 87 and expected to get to 96

I lived in phoenix for 26 years :p its not as bad as it sounds, the heat, once youre used to it. All animals seek shade there and not even bugs dare going on the concrete. Im in NM now and its windy here. I got used to cooler weather and when i go visit i found that i can no longer take the heat like i used to. Its easier getting acclimated to cold weather. T the heat in phoenix is special even in the world's standards of heat. But yup make the best of the sun and go swimmin!

AZ ain't got anything on the east.... between the lakes and the gulf.. try 90 with a 75 dew point. even 80 with a 65+ dew point is awful...

If these are real cacti I'd hate to be the one to remove those christmas lights. Its cool looking though. I don't live in AZ I live in New Mexico. Though im sure ive visited before. Last time I saw Arizona I was passing through on the way to Vegas for new years.

Must be a bit risky to try to do, as well, with all those cactuses... :)

There's a book called "A Sort of Saga" about a guy's life when he was a boy growing up in, among other places, AZ. Quote from the book: "People think of Arizona and they immediately think of the heat. Well it was hot, but it was very dry so any moisture you sweated was instantly whisked away. It was a great cooling effect and it also looked neat seeing everyone walking around in his own personal cloud. One day for a lark my brother and I cooked an egg on a flat rock. It took about fifteen minutes to cook all the way through. We didn't eat it."

I spent an hour at the Phoenix bus station last month... but that probably isn't what you're looking for.
