How many still enjoy learning and studying, even after university/college/high school/etc.? If so, what have you learned independently on your own? What are you currently learning and studying?

The Internet, ebooks, Youtube, iTunesU, and many other resources have made it easily possible to learn many things free of charge or low cost.

Does independent learning count even if I'm still in university? I'm independently learning mandarin Chinese through a combination of resources such as YouTube, language learning apps, other online sources, and then I practice what I learn on my friends who speak mandarin.

Sure. Then you're engaging in pre-post university independent learning. :p

Though my degree is in communications, I have continued to study marketing and organizational leadership.

Right now I am... studying a bowl of fruit salad. I think the papayas add just the right exotic touch.

After several years of pretty much boycotting any work in the kitchen, I'm starting to experiment with cooking and baking again, even if it's just baby steps. The brownies and lemon bars were a huge hit at work--who cares if they came from a box, right? I am working my way up to White Chocolate Raspberry bars from scratch. We'll see how many mixers I blow up in the process (true story, I once blew out the motor of a hand-mixer while making frosting... I caught myself just in time, but was thinking, "Is it inappropriate to swear while preparing my assignment for a Christian cooking class?") I wish the Pippster was here to give me a few pointers. Not to mention a backup mixer in case something goes wrong.

I'm also trying to take back a part of my youth, er, I mean, make friendship bracelets for the girls at work and their daughters, because I never did learn how to make all the fancy shapes, hearts, and initials when I was that age... and so I am trying now. I've probably single-handedly upped the view counts on YouTube substantially because it takes me so many tries to get the knot-tying sequences right... I keep telling myself, "Twelve-year-old girls whip these puppies up in 15 minutes. I. Can. Do. This. Never mind that it took me half an hour just to do the last row."

I'm also dabbling here and there in container gardening (have already had 2 casualties, one on the way home from the store), jewelry-making with beads, a few words in Spanish, and books on overcoming our society's addiction to food. And a second attempt at sewing a pair of jeans from scratch is on my summer wish list.

I'm always learning how to eat new cakes.

I don't mind the effort... I'm a very disciplined person.

Girl I have a hand mixer graveyard. I've killed so many I've lost count. 2 years ago my church bought me a kitchen aid mixer for my birthday and it works wonders!

I finished high school. And have found a job doing construction. So I am learning how to build things. And I am enjoying it. Plus it is always something that will come in handy sometime in my life.

I'm not into collecting those fancy pieces of paper people hang on their wall, that cost thousands of dollars but, I write papers for people who do that sort of thing.

I can't stop learning or I can't turn the curiousity off. Its a burden I gotta bear but I'm alright with that. ;)

Well, this may not be current, but I started a job at an auto parts and accessories store at 17 years of age. You could only imagine the response I got from customers being a teenage girl in a male orientated industry. (Even though it was a retail industry, it was still predominantly run by men). I copped a large portion of nastiness from customers for my lack of knowledge about cars.

But in those days, there was a very determined and very angst driven side of me that wanted to prove everyone wrong so I went out of my way to learn as much as I could about cars and car parts. I often pestered my dad, who is a mechanic, when ever I could, sticking my nose in when ever he went to work on the car. It's not really a great achievement, but during those days I found a lot of satisfaction when I humbled fully grown men by the fact a young lady had just shut them down. But only the proud ones. There were some truly beautiful and gentle men I met during those years that were really thankful and appreciated what I had to offer. I even had a few give me their number, one young man emphasised that it was my confidence in what I did that had his attention.

But then I got saved, have had to shed many pride issues, and am learning to channel that 'focused, driven, determined to conquer' attitude in to more healthier avenues. Now I read. A lot. But I'm more fascinated by broadening my understanding of who I am in Christ, my identity as a child of God and as a woman, and I love taking those 'jump out at your face' verses from scripture and pulling it apart.

I should probably study/learn how to cook. That is my total and utter downfall.

I taught myself how to play guitar. Granted, I'm not the best at it and I have a lot more to learn, but I learned quickly.

I'm a very curious person. I am always asking questions, usually theological ones and usually ones that...I'm careful about who I ask around. They can be very...thought provoking. But I enjoy exploring and discussing what I know I can never fully know until I meet Him face to face.

I love learning, I am a research nerd and when people need something researched, they usually ask me to help. I once watched videos on YouTube for at least half an hour or more just about cheetahs. I like gaining knowledge on God's creation because it makes me be more in awe of Him.

I want to learn how to cook, grow plants, and re-learn piano.

Building things is the best. You should consider trade school. Its great if you can get experience without it, but having a professional license will help you succeed faster. Just throwing that out there.
