Hey everyone,

After witnessing some tasty talk about sandwiches in another thread, I thought that maybe we could have an entire thread devoted to most everyone's favorite lunchtime delicacy: the sandwich!!! Please feel free to write anything you have to say about sandwiches, such as:

1. What kinds of bread do you prefer?

2. What kinds of meats, fillings, etc. do you like? Maybe you're a vegetarian and prefer a portabello mushroom cap as the main filling, etc.?

3. Which condiments are your "must-have's", and which ones... would you rather hurl at other people? (In a food fight, of course.)

4. What vegetables are yay's or nay's?

5. Any unique ingredients? (Like putting potato chips on your sandwich instead of on the side... etc.)

6. If anyone on CC would be willing to make you a sammich, who would you want as your Sandwich Chef and why?

Feel free to post pictures and recipes.

I myself love all kinds of sandwiches but some of my favorites include ham & cheese, grilled cheese (made on cheap 99-cents-a-loaf, no-nutritional-value-at-all white bread), roast beef with cheddar or muenster, Reubens, and, I personally count a cheeseburger as a sandwich.

I do not, however, like soggy sandwiches, and therefore, I eschew all sauces--no ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, or relish ever graces my sandwiches if I have the luxury of ordering or making them that way. I order the dressing that normally comes on a Reuben sandwich on the side and dip it in at my own leisure, rather than having it smeared all over. I do NOT like raw tomatoes AT ALL and always wind up giving them away if anyone tries to place them anywhere near my sandwich. Depending on the kind of sandwich, I prefer my lettuce to be shredded, and will even add alfalfa sprouts (I can hear all the gasps of, "Oh No! Seoul's gone crunchy!) for, yes, the crunchy texture.

Cheese is a necessity, and I like mozzarella, cheddar, muenster, and provolone but ONLY if it isn't smoked. For some reason I LOVE smoked meats but CAN'T STAND smoked cheeses.

If I could have anyone on CC make me a sammich, who would it be? There are several resident forum chefs/chef-esses I'd love to choose from, but I'd have to say that if Gypsygirl made me a sandwich, I'd know it was perfect (because she has an eye for detail) AND healthy.

I'm also thinking... that I would ask Pipp to make me a CAKE... that LOOKS like a sandwich, of course. :)

I enjoy pitas instead. I usually get one with chicken Slovaki, lots of lettuce, lots of tomatoes, feta, tazeki (sp?), and house herbs and oil. Nom nom nom.

AWESOMENESS.

So...
Toasted whole grain (the more seeds and stuff in it, the better) bread
Spicy brown mustard only (ew to mayo or miracle whip)
Fresh from the deli mesquite or smoked turkey
Pepperoni
Goldfish crackers on the sandwich
Cheeeeeese (pretty much any kind...or every kind!)
Suuuuuper thinly sliced onion
Sometimes a fried egg. Truth, yo.

I don't like other people making my sammiches. It's far too personal and intimate...I do it myself.

hmmmm...

for bread i like a nice jewish rye, toasted.
Mayo made with olive oil on both pieces topped with spicy brown mustard.
Then swiss cheese
followed by rare roast beef, thin sliced and a little bloody
raw spianch and tomatoes and pickles, salt and pepper, and red wine vinegar.

If I'm in the mood for poultry; I like flatbread(like the stuff at subway) with white meat chicken, pepperjack cheese, chipotle sauce, same veggie.

Phillies are great too. Light on the onion and extra mushroom add mayo and tomoato.

I really love sandwiches.

I like my sides on the sides.

If you put raw onions or lettuce on my sandwich it will become ammo in a foodfight.

I like Pita or flatbread, I am really funny when it comes to sandwiches because I don't really care for lunchmeat, actually I hate the word lunchmeat it grosses me out. Sometimes I take a piece of Turkey and wrap cheese around it and eat it without bread.

I'm more of a salad with some chicken and a lot of veggies type person. Also the color of mayonnaise grosses me out, I like the taste but the color makes me sick so I don't use it much. I like Turkey burgers on a bun.

I also like California rolls, not a sandwich but I'd rather eat those than a sandwich. Oh when I pack my lunch I usually pack hummus carrots and pitas so I can dip them in the hummus.

Living alone I don't make one very often, but I love making a traditional muffaletta from New Orleans. There is just something about that mixture of the olive salad, cheeses, and meats.

Oh Bruschetta. I loooooove it. I don't think it's considered a sandwich, but it is on bread so...

i like a gfree ciabatta bread, pepper jack cheese, turkey breast, banana peppers, tomato, black pepper, and spicy mustard.

For grilled, I like a grainy bread, horseradish mustard, provalone, cheddar, and bacon with maybe a few slivers of apple.

i love cubans sandwiches:

pork loin, more pork (ham), swiss cheese, grainy mustard, and thinly sliced dill pickle, grilled and gooey. *dies*

also, i'm a big fan of a great, fresh BLTA, the A being avocado. the tomatoes have to be really fresh too, and sliced thick. and i prefer it on sourdough.

as a general rule, i hate lettuce on my sandwich, and prefer sprouts. and i'm a sucker for anything with fresh mozzerella, such as a fresh mozz and tomato sandwich.

i also like REALLY fresh bread.

Who cares what's in it, long as it's made of pretzel rolls. ;)

Ok, that's not entirely true. But pretzel rolls make good things great.

Case in point, chicken sandwich turned magical at Chili's by pretzel roll...

Just skip the fries and go for loaded mashed potatoes instead.

1. What kinds of bread do you prefer?
What ever she decides to use.
2. What kinds of meats, fillings, etc. do you like? Maybe you're a vegetarian and prefer a portabello mushroom cap as the main filling, etc.?
Which ever she decides to use.

3. Which condiments are your "must-have's", and which ones... would you rather hurl at other people? (In a food fight, of course.)
Which ever ones are left after she's done putting them on her sandwich.

4. What vegetables are yay's or nay's?
Which ever she chooses.

5. Any unique ingredients? (Like putting potato chips on your sandwich instead of on the side... etc.)
If she's pregnant, which ever she chooses.

6. If anyone on CC would be willing to make you a sammich, who would you want as your Sandwich Chef and why?
I can't think for myself.

Sorry Tourist. Cucumbers are of the devil. I've tried and tried...

I've tried with turkey,
I've tried with ham,
but I do not like them,
Sam I am...
(not).

In general... I don't like raw vegetables as it is. But raw tomatoes and cucumbers in any form are especially vile.

Oh yeah, this is it. Sandwiches.... swoon. So tasty and personal :)

Breads... oh that depends on the sandwich but If i had to say, well it has to have seasame seeds. I can't think of a sandwich that isn't improved with seasame seeds :)

Fillings... Chicken, short cut bacon, cherry tomartos, red onion, red or green capsicum (bell peppers), a stronger cheese, cuccumber, carriot, ummm.... well, lettice of course. The thing about this is that it can't just get all slapped on. It's gotta be prepared with love. The right order, the evenness of the spread of ingredients, it takes a little longer but the flavour combination pays big delicious dividends.

Condiments... Helmans mayo and HOT old english mustard... oh baby. It packs a punch like wasabi... love that forced open sinus feel! :D

Yay or nay vegitibles... well i did my yays above, but for nays.... I dont know. how strange.

Unique ingredients.... hmmmm, no i don't think so. Although if I am putting fried egg on a sandwich i make it a runny yoke, then i pierce it and drizzle it over both sides of the bread, then spread it like butter. Gives that delicious eggs flavour throughout :)

Who would make me a sandwich?? hohohooo! that's an ask. Whenever I see subway people making sandwiches who either don't make their own sandwiches at home, or don't care about other people's sandwichy enjoyment...grr. Either way, neither is excusable when it comes to my sandwich ;) Basically a sandwich, like any food, needs to be made with love and care. You can indeed taste the difference :)
So if that's you, and you love to layer everything just perfectly with though and care to even distribution, feel free to make me a sandwich anytime :)

We seem to be incompatible as far as veggies on sandwiches are concerned. I love Reuben's also but there is sauerkraut involved and that may become problematic as that is made from cabbage which is also a vegetable. I think that I will consume a Whopper today but I will remove the tomatoes to be on the right side of this equation.
