ok, some of you know that of late, i've been doing these iv iron infusions. which i liken to being chained like a dog to a post for a 2-3 hours, forcing me to find things that i can do with that time. it's been a challenge to have to sit still and find things that are productive, but last week, i decided to clean out my "big purse" which is actually the purse i seldom carry unless i am going to be going somewhere for the day or need to pack more or larger items.

i hadn't thoroughly cleaned it out in awhile and found some rather, unusual and even surprising things. i started i pulled out all the stuff and roughly documented it for this thread.

i was telling my guy pal about some of the stuff i found, and he was utterly fascinated by these revelations. which then got me thinking, "what is everyone else carrying around with them that we might be surprised to know?"

so here's the challenge: what's in your purse???

1. do you carry a purse (or a bag, pack or whatever) ??? how large is it?

2. what is in your purse? give us a rundown of contents, because we're super-nosy (well, i am!).

3. what are the unusual items that might surprise us that you carry?

BONUS POINTS FOR ANY PHOTOS!!!

note: i'm not sure what the "guy" equivalent might be... perhaps pockets, backpack, or whatever might be relevant to you? but we definitely want to hear the equally interesting things that might be on your person or accessible for whatever reasons. this is NOT a strict "girly" thread.

(Copied from the love/hate thread by request (oh and added to))-

I hate my purse. I carry it anyway, because I love my purse. It's a kinda hideous, cheap (from Target) white with black zippers contraption designed to make me carry around a bunch of junk I will probably/probably not need, and it is the place where gum wrappers and loose change go to die.

At all times, it contains:
a digital camera that I never use
Pepper spray
8,391 business cards (or maybe just 3...I'm not sure)
cherry chapstick
driver's license and other such identification junk in case I forget who I am
several dollars worth of change, yet never any quarters

Sometimes, it may or may not contain:
a random diaper
a set of keys
actual money
cards/invitations that I forget about until the event has passed and angry people call me
perfume that makes my skin breakout in hives but smells nice
shopping lists from a month or more ago
a pen that I can never find
long-lost scrub hoes (good one, autocorrect...but I meant scrum hoes) (no! SCRUNCHIES!!)
the world (on a chain)

The stupid thing is heavy and annoying. I've been known to leave it hanging in public restroom stalls and actually drive away before remembering it. I hardly ever use anything out of it (but if I leave it at home, guess what I miss?).

Yesterday, I destroyed the zipper. I stuffed a plastic bag inside and zipped it super quick...now there's a Walmart bag stuck in the zipper and I can't get it out.

I think it's time for a new purse.

Note- I've just cleaned it out, here's photographic evidence:

Oh yeah and if it's sunny and above 70 degrees, a long sleeve fishing shirt, to repel the sun.
And possibly a green SPF boonie hat....

Welcome to my world. :p

I dont have a purse, I dont like them. I do however have a cool black wallet with colorful neon butterflies on it. :) Inside are the usual things: atm card, money, Price Chopper savings card, my identification. One unusual thing: a card that I used in an online magic trick (and it worked, lol) :) and it said to put the card in my wallet for seven days and I'd have good luck. It must have worked because I found $107 tucked away that I forgot I had hid away for emergencies. :)

I do carry a purse. It is medium sized.

Off th top of my head here are the contents

Oversized wallet-it has all the financial stuff in it
Sunglasses and regular glasses
Coin purse because I liked the purple leopard print
Two small bottles one with ibuprofen and the other with Tylenol.
Thin pad and tampon-just in case
Lip gloss
Hand sanitizer- regular and with lotion
Perfume stick from Bath and Body.
Lens cloth
It can also hold my kindle if I need it.

I don't carry a purse. I have a stretchy neoprene pocket on my cell phone that holds my ID, debit card, and various church tax exemption and credit cards. I love it.

I carry a roomy soft laptop case with lots of compartments in it. It doubles as my gym bag and briefcase. Inside I have...

- clothes for working out
- swimming goggles and earplugs
- my galaxy tablet for internet/reading/music/to-do lists/etc..
- headphones
- water bottle
- towel (but I usually carry this by hand since its a little too big with all that other stuff in there)
- cheap cologne
- portable Batphone :p

Sooooo us men carry more stuff in a bag than women? So far...

Mighty interesting.

At least our bags aren't full of used Kleenexes, decade old lipstick, century old hard candy..etc etc..

I opened my wallet to see if anything would be surprising. Everyone carries their license, rewards cards, and who doesn't carry their Jedi Council membership card? I did find a card though that is uniquely mine.

I actually have carried this in my wallet for the past 18 years. I was on staff with the University of Arkansas' new student programs office that year. We had a bubbly woman named Jenny working with us. She was very flirty and fun, and she was known for playfully kissing all the fellers. Well, one day she came up to me and started to kiss me. I leaned back and told her no thanks. I told her about how I felt about a casual kiss. She picked up this blank business card, gave it a kiss, and wrote me the note. It has been in my wallet since. It just serves as a reminder, both of my values and of a great bubbly friend from college. Sadly, a year later, she was killed in a car crash in Dallas. So I value those little mementos.

The real question is probably, what DON'T I carry in my purse. And yes, if the I could find one big enough to carry the kitchen sink, I'd probably take that along too.

Here's a quick glimpse (if you thought my other posts were long... be prepared to brace yourself):

* Wallet, and that alone contains a myriad of other things--cash, credit card, frequent shopper cards, picture of family, license.
* Band-aids (I frequently work with box cutters.)
* Towel for hand-washing (the break room has soap but is always out of towels.)
* Nail clippers and emery board (having your nails ripped off, no matter how short, is a hazard of working around boxes.)
* Lipstick, concealer, powder.
* SPF lotion for touch-ups (the sun is VERY strong here.)
* Cologne (I'm always afraid I may start to "ripen" in the heat.)
* Eye drops.
* Dental floss, toothbrush, and paste.
* Gum AND mints (garlic for dinner warrants both.)
* Small notepad, pens, and highlighters (because I have to write things down in order to remember them.)
* Tape measure (comes in handy for most anything... scouting out the right-sized pans, sewing supplies, flower pots, etc.)
* Lipgloss (for when a lipstick is too much.)
* Toothpicks (for my Mom, who otherwise, will pick her teeth with her fork.)
* Bobby pins and hair elastics, which spontaneously fall out of my hair.
* Hairspray. My hair is so fine that if I don't give it a good, regular dousing, it flies into my eyes and everywhere else.
* Cell phone.
* GPS (I don't have a smart phone.)
* Small bottle of Advil.
* Small devotional book for times when I'm caught waiting.

And this was just an overhead glance of what's in my REGULAR bag. I am a girl who likes to be prepared.
When working, I carry my REGULAR bag INSIDE a full-sized backpack, which in addition, contains:

* Two full water bottles.
* Container of on-the-go snacks like cereal or trail mix, complete with plastic spoon.
* Box cutters and various tools for work.
* Apron and name tags.
* Additional reading materials, notebook, file full of notes for work.
* Stationery for writing letters and magazines (the "activity kit" I've carried since childhood to stave off boredom.)
* Heavy duty hand lotion because otherwise, working with cardboard leaves your hands cracked.
* Padlock for securing said bag in a locker.

And this is just a brief overview... But you can bet that if anyone needs something... they always come to me. Everything is organized in compartments and Ziploc bags so I have no problems finding things. I give it all a daily clear-out and thorough evaluation/cleaning every week.

Yes, my "purse" (backpack) easily weighs probably 8 pounds pr more when fully loaded.

But I like to think, by lugging it around... I also get an extra workout. Some women carry around a child... I carry around half my belongings.

(I am often asked if I ride a bicycle to work, am running away, or am just plain homeless.) :) It's probably amazing that I've never been robbed or mugged. Then again, I could just throw the pack at them for a pretty instantaneous death...

Gypsy and Grace might be duking it out over hot sauce (reference to another thread), but they haven't really won... Until they've finished the extra 6 bottles I'm carrying in my backpack. :p

my purse is small right now, however i change purses sometimes... but not often ! and they aren't designer. ( one time i did get to have a coach bag, though... those were the days. had to let it go since it was a gift from an ex. )

i have five purses. i used to have seven but there were bad memories attached to a couple of them [ gifts from another ( more recent, different, terrible ex ) ] so i let two go a while back.
they aren't fun colors... all are either tan, brown or black, varying in sizes.

today's purse is small.
it has :

- hand cream ( always ! eucerine, it's the best. it's original healing soothing repair cream and on the lightweight to rich spectrum it is a 5/5 rich. )

i go nuts without hand cream. seriously, it staves off panic attacks.

- meds in a pill box. divided into two sides, one for a.m. and one for p.m

- phone ( a not so smart one )

- colored lip gloss

- miniature sized shopping list

- a hair tie and several bobby pins

- small wallet

( i always carry sunglasses... always. if i'm wearing them they don't usually end up in my purse too much, but i have a soft cover for them in there normally, just in case. )

these are the basics, i don't often have more than this.
