Just curious how fast everyone here types. I had to take a typing class a few years ago but I still can only type about 40wpm (words per minute) because I don't type very often, and I've seen some people type as fast as lightning. Where do you stand?

I type about 70 wpm on one of those random typing speed tests. Those things are so tricky though because I feel like I type faster when the words I'm copying aren't random and disjointed. Or better, when they are my own thoughts as I am thinking them.

I can type about 5 words per minute...
that's pretty good with my one big eyeball.

That's also why I usually hire a secretary with 3 eyes...
to sorta make up the difference.

From "around 60wpm" to "around 100wpm or faster" is kind of a big jump lol, but I chose around 60wpm because I'm actually around 70-75.

I average about 95, but back when I was a secretary I remember my average speed was over 100wpm.

I guess about 60 or so. I used to type for a living. I don't type as much as I used too. I don't miss it. When you're typing in information it's so boring.

when i'm dynamically typing my own thoughts, i'm between 80-100, depending upon the keyboard.

when i'm typing copy or dictation from an audio file, i'm probably 60-80.

When I do typing tests, they usually say I type 65-70 words per minute. I would guess it's closer to 90-95 when it's just me and my brain without copying words. On my phone, with one finger and a stupid touch screen...it's probably...20 ish. Now I'm curious how fast I really type on here. Huh.

It took me five minutes to type this sentence, i'll let you do the math on that. ;)

For me it actually depends on what keyboard I am using. My old laptop computer has an awesome keyboard, and I am very used to it so I can type quite fast. Any other keyboards I am slower, depending on how they "feel". On average I would say that my speed is somewhere around 65-70 WPM.

I'm about 60 wpm. I was a bit faster when I did data entry

I'm pretty speedy with a numbered keypad. I used to do 14K characters per hour when I worked in hospital finance.

Just typing or actually spelling all your words correctly? Lol. I learned way back in Highschool in my typing class that it's actually faster and more accurate to type by letters instead of words... So you wouldn't think "Gumball" but more so "g-u-m-b-a-l-l." Takes practice to change your thought process though.

Last time I checked I was around 80 wpm, but I'm sure I'm closer to 100 now since I type all my charting at everyday at work. O_O

I had 2 years of typing in high school. I was up to 60 wpm but now less than 50 and declining but I am getting faster with typing the numbers on the top row so it sort of averages out. g*u*m*b*a*l*l. This one is prolly cherry flavored I am surmising.

I have no idea how fast i can type because I haven't taken a typing speed test since my high school typing class, however I know my typing teacher would go insane if she saw how I type now. With my right hand I use proper tying etiquette, with my left it's really quick hunt and peck with the index finger.

I'm not sure. I've generally been more of an accurate typer than a fast typer (I'm have mild dyslexia, so that may come with the territory). I just tried a little sample online to give me some idea. I got 51 Words Per Minute. When I'm writing my own words, I can reach more along the lines of 70WPM.

Back in high school I typed 72 on a manual typewriter, but probably between 40-60 now. I can get things done in a hurry if I need to.

Meh, I do stuff like that all the time and don't have any form of dyslexia, just my fingers don't always do what my brain instructs them to do.
