I have noticed over the years that some people seem to think I am weird. Not that I go out of my way to do things just because they are weird. I just do what works for me. But boy, "what works for me" sometimes sure does get a lot of comments.

These are the ways in which many people think I am weird:

1. I sleep on an air mattress, have for more than 15 years and wouldn't have anything else. I think they're very comfortable.

2. I wear toe shoes, or zero-drop shoes if I'm going somewhere I don't want comments on the toe shoes. Not as a fashion statement, but for comfort. "Normal" shoes are thicker at the heel than at the toe, which forces a heel-toe stride. I have always found that unnatural and I couldn't wait to get home and get my shoes off. When I got my first pair of toe shoes... well, that was the first time I had ever felt like dancing across a gravel driveway. But people think they are weird. If they don't comment about the toes they think it's weird that I walk with a stride as though I were barefoot. Well... that's the way my feet were designed to walk.

3. I like many different styles of music. All the music in my collection is christian, but from all across the genre board. This is weird compared to most people, who narrow down on one or two styles to the exclusion of everything else.

4. Although I like many styles of music, I don't like most of any style. About 70% of christian music - in ALL styles - is just put out to make a buck, sell an album, put on a show. The 30% that is anointed is worth digging for though.

5. I sleep in whatever clothes I was wearing that day. I see no reason to dirty up a pair of pajamas when I'm already wearing clothes. I don't know why this is weird, but it has also gathered a lot of comments.

6. If I'm in a hurry at work and don't have time to take a break, I will usually pop a can of (insert vegetable or soup here, green beans, kiddley beans (I said kiddley diddle I?), sweet peas, clam chowder, whatever) and eat a bite when I pass the break room. What? They cook it when they can it you know. But you would not believe the comments I've gotten because I don't dirty up a bowl to heat it up.

7. I like good quality food regardless of popularity, price or what is the accepted norm. I like chocolate, but can't stand hershey. I like cheese, but american cheese is a waste of chewing effort. I like food of all kinds, including brussels sprouts, asparagus, pan-fried chicken livers, etc, but can't stand fast food. This has raised a few eyebrows among my friends, all of whom think Hardees burgers are great.

8. I sometimes eat non-breakfast foods for breakfast, like lasagna or tuna fish. And if I want a scrambled egg for supper I'll scramble one. I don't know why this is weird, but I have gotten a lot of comments on it. I'll eat what I want when I want.

9. My shirts have a pocket in the shoulder, underneath the shirt. I keep my phone there. I gave a friend a bunch of shirts and she sewed the pockets in for me. It's the handiest thing I've ever found in textiles, because I can tie up most of my earbud cord, put the phone in my shoulder pocket and listen to music without that long cord hanging down. But a lot of people have given that weird looks too.

There are probably more weird things about me, but I can't think of any others right now.

See, I have gradually realized that once you get a little perspective about what is important, you stop caring so much about what the majority thinks and you are a lot more free to live your life the way you want. People may call you weird for some things, but life is too short to avoid some things just because a lot of people think it is weird. "Just because everybody does it doesn't mean it's not incredibly stupid." By the same token, just because most people don't do something doesn't mean it's not something I should try. Most people don't do almost all the things their doctors tell them after all...

So, how are you weird? Are there any things you prefer that those around you think are weird?

I had to lookup toe shoes...didn't know what they were. In the pictures of them was this one http://images.cricket-fashion.com/images/products/zoom/1331809455-00693400.jpg (my kindle doesn't like the photo screen on here)

I don't wear heels but I would make an exception for these. :D
As for the rest of your comments, I don't think you are weird. I love all kinds of music from classical to rap (as long as it is Christian rap). I don't see any problems with you not wearing pjs...as long as your clothes are comfortable to sleep in, who cares.

Personally I think we all have our quirks. I love to rub my nose when I am writing about a difficult subject but only when on the kindle.

I lived in a town and went to this restaurant and half the people in the restaurant were wearing them toe-shoe things. I think there kinda cute ;) They told me that the shoes are good for getting "grounded" and in "touch" with mother nature.haha
Although you thinking that you are weird, is kinda weird because weird people don't usually pay too much attention to if there weird or not. hahaha

Reasons people label me as weird:

1 I'm homeschooled, or at least I was untill the age of 15- People think its weird that I'm not awkward in public. Because all I've done the past 4 years is raise hogs and do general farm work. They think I'm dumb or something.

2 I go to town on horseback- only city slickers think this is weird.

3 I apologize for everything- I say sorry to people who complain about someone I don't even know.

4 Tourettes- people think that twitching and yelling at everyone, calling people weird things, is weird, lol (jk I don't have it that bad haha)

1. I'm a fairly expressive person but dislike the spotlight. I even get self-conscious when family and friends all sing me Happy Birthday.

2. I'm excited by ancient history and deep discussions.

3. I love to read and I regularly post short and not so short reviews on FB, even though people may not read them. I do the same for movies and the occasional TV series.

4. One of the ways I enjoy stories is through analysing what I read, watch and to a lesser extent, what I listen to.

5. I'm good at handing out compliments, but not at receiving them.

6. I'm self-conscious about dancing or anything remotely close to dancing, but put on some Michael Jackson, Lindsey Stirling or some good praise and worship music (various genres) and I'll be bopping along like nobody's business.

7. I have many different laughs but they all seem to be inappropriately loud.

8. I strongly dislike sports but will join in with friends if they're playing something and just having fun.

9. I often think out-loud. Sometimes this is good, sometimes it's not so good.

10. I'm incredibly random. Often people just don't understand the way I see the world.

11. I'm a very visual person but when I'm reading, I don't picture in my mind what I'm reading, but feel the emotions of the story or whatever. It's weird.

Crazyteen: Being homeschooled isn't weird. My mother homeschooled me because she thought the public school was teaching us weird things (they were... the 80's was a very weird time in public school curricula.)

Tintin: If you can put yourself into the emotions of a book you are reading you might (despite your shyness) try acting. Just a thought.

Lynx, interesting idea. That's another one. In school, I always loved acting, the practicing, the craziness - the ability to just be super-expressive, but I always disliked the performing in front of people side of it. Especially the fear that I wouldn't remember all of my lines. Yes, it was quite the conundrum.

Dude you just listed all the great things about acting! If you have already tried it and liked it, DO IT! The fear you will overcome. Just ask your fellow actors - all of them used to be afraid when the bright lights came on. (Something they might not tell you... some of them still are a little.) But the fun is well worth it.

These aren't super quirky, but here we go:

- I have two or three different scented shower soaps in the shower at any given time. I try to rotate them. I like having variety in my scents, I don't like using the same thing every night. Not any more than three though or I feel overwhelmed that I can't use them all evenly.

- When things are ALMOST empty but not quite, it makes me antsy. I want it to be done so I can get out a new bottle but I also don't want to waste it.

- I am a night showerer, I shower RIGHT before bed because I hate the feeling of being dirty when I get in my bed, especially my feet. My roommate and sister convinced me to try not showering, and I did try, I just wiped off my feet with a washcloth but it's really not the same. I think I enjoy the process of showering, it relaxes me. So, I could get home at 2 in the morning and still want to take a shower before going to bed.

- I do not like whipped cream on cold beverages, such as frappacinos, unless I have a spoon to eat it off of. I find that the bottom of it freezes on the top of the drink itself and then has this weird icy consistency that I don't like. I can't describe it well, I just know I don't like it.

- I laugh a lot and at just about anything. I also...snort. Sometimes when I laugh hard I cry, not sobbing, but my eyes water and it's just embarrassing.

- Speaking of crying, I'm a cryer. My brother-in-law told me and my sister, "Your family cries more than anyone I know." I cry when I'm happy, when I'm sad, when I'm angry, when I'm overwhelmed. Not all the time, just when it's bad. I also cry in movies, because...

- I'm quite sensitive. I can put myself in anyone's shoes (so I relate to Tintin's part about relating to characters in books), and my stomach also gets in knots when there are a bunch of people who die in a movie. Not even main characters, just when there is destruction and you know tons of people are dying. I know it's not real, it's just upsetting to me sometimes. Happened the other night when I watched the newest Godzilla.

- I can keep one eye straight and cross the other one

- I will sing and dance like no one's business when I'm alone but if someone asks me to then I'm all shy about it.

- I don't know if it's considered an "obsessive personality" or if it's normal, but when I hear a song/album I like, I will listen to it literally non-stop until I know all the words and I can sing along. And then in a few weeks I get tired of it and won't listen to it for a while.

- I can type really fast. About 85 WPM or more.

- I'm intelligent but sometimes it takes...explaining to me. Many people get frustrated with this because they'll say a story, but I'll get confused because of wording. Example, my sister tells a story. At the end, I say, "Wait, I don't get it. You had to go to the store for the shirt?" She'll explain again, and then say, "Get it now?" I'll stare and then say, "...Yes." She will reply, "Do you really?" and then I'll say no and she'll roll her eyes and shake her head. My roommate has done that as well as a few other people. It's frustrating for everyone involved, ha.

Wow, I clicked the "Preview post" button and I typed more than I thought I did.

There are good and famous actors who are actually shy. They overcome shyness eventually because acting is actually putting on diferrent masks in the roles they portray and not revealing their true identity. So why dont you try auditions Tintin? After all you seem introverted, which means you can be highly creative and talented with acting.

I have a few quirky habits -

- I am meticulous and organized in my activities. I plan and re-plan and re-plan. I would spend about 60% of my time planning and the 40% executing it.

- I laugh a lot. I even laugh at myself. And I am sensitive to the extent that I can empathize with someone's suffering. I can be moved to tears if I am extremely overjoyed or surprised or hurt. (Ugly already took away my man card for this... )

- I shower twice a day. Once in the morning and once in the evening after I return from a long day outside. If I don't I feel sticky and dirty and I cannot sleep comfortably. I have my dinner/supper only after my shower.

- If it is not a working day, I will pray only after I have had my morning shower. I feel like I am going to God in an unpresentable condition if I do not shower before praying. On a working day though, I pray the moment I wake up.

- I have a voracious appetite but I am still slim (let's say athletic to make me feel better, shall we?). People find it very strange that I am slim no matter how much I've eaten. To give you an example, if I am very hungry I can have a 18" sub (that's 1 1/2 foot long) in one lunch. And still be hungry for tea/savouries in the evening at 5! When I visit a new restaurant, I always check up on the serving size before I place my order. I hate it if I walk out of that place still feeling hungry.

- My memory is weird. I can remember scenes of incidents happening but I cannot remember dialogues or texts. I have a higher probability of remembering something being somewhere but not what someone said or wrote.

- I can type very fast. My highest so far has been at 92 WPM, but I usually type around 80 WPM. (Note to self - Challenge rachelsedge for a typing competition some day... )

- I am a mix of extroversion and introversion (53% E, 47% I). As a result, I have many social circles but nobody I can call a "close friend". That would be either my love or none at all.

- I have a fear of heights. I fall sick on adventure rides or if the flight is too bumpy. Plus when I go down fast all of a sudden I get this weird "knotty" feeling in my stomach that hurts.

- I love all styles of music. I just love good music. I can tap my foot to jazz then swing to slow blues then jump around to alternative. As long as the music is good and the words make sense.

- I love sleeping. If the weather is cloudy and it is cold, I can sleep for a long stretch. I can even wake up, drive my mom to church, come back and continue sleeping.

- I love the outdoors as much as I love the indoors. There are days when all I want to do is switch on the AC, wrap myself in my blanket and be online. On other days, I would want to go for a long drive or a road trip.

Just give it a try. If you have the time, you could do this on your weekends. You could earn some extra money. :)

Roh_Chris, nothing on that list qualifies as weird. That's all normal human nature. :) Just don't tell the brits how much you shower... they still think we americans are fanatics for bathing more than once a week. And when you hit middle age that eating is gonna catch up with you, but I'm sure you've heard that many times before.

Ella's aversion to odd numbers on the radio dial... that's harder to explain. What if your favorite station is there? Do you listen to it or switch to a station that is not as good, but happens to be on an even number?

Ah, I see. That doesn't make any more sense, but at least it's not as inconvenient. One volume click more won't make any real difference.

I wear wigs, but not the same colour or style every day. My neighbours think ten women live in my house but its all me...loL..

i separate vegetables when I put them In the fridge, I can't have them all together so I have 20 little baskets in my fridge to keep them apart. A basket for onions and carrots etc..

I move my furniture around at least once a week..my friends always check if the chair they sat in yesterday is still in the same place. It drives them crazy.

If I buy a dinner set..and a cup or plate gets chipped or broken. I have to throw it out and get new ones. I dislike chipped dinner wear ..

i also own about 45 blankets..I don't know why..lol

Roh_Chris: Nope, not weird. Sorry to disappoint you. It all fits under "I have found what works for me and I don't really care what the world thinks about it."

waterlily: Most of what you described sounds like mild OCD. But as long as it doesn't impede normal life, no cause for concern. Certainly not as weird as this one guy who was in the store checkout lane and paid for his order with dollar bills which were all in their own separate little plastic bags.
