Hey Everyone,

I've noticed several questions about "Jesus Juking" in the threads, so here is a definition I found on the internet (this is not my own definition, but something I copied from a site):

"The phrase "Jesus juke" was originally coined by Jon Acuff in a 2010 post on his blog "Stuff Christians Like." Jesus jukes are moves that you make in online conversation to showcase your superior Jesus-ness at the expense of other people who have said something, often in banter or jest, that is inadequately theologically correct (or TC for short, the Christian version of PC). Jesus jukes are the 21st century online conversational version of the exhibitionist piety that Jesus calls out in his Sermon on the Mount, like praying on the street corner, disfiguring your face when you're fasting, and announcing your alms-giving with trumpets (Matthew 6:1-18)."

(Ok, this is me again...)

I love the example someone gave here in the Singles forum a while back about a conversation between friends regarding their favorite flavor of cupcakes, but were interrupted from their "worldly" conversation by someone who chimed (literally... as in, church chimes), "Jesus would have given cupcakes to the poor!!"

I have also read that some people are offended by the term because they feel it takes God's name in vain.

Therefore, I would like to ask, what do you think would be some alternative "politically correct" terms for a term that is already it's own brand of political correctness?

I have a few suggestions. Instead of calling it a "Jesus Juke", how about:

1. Sanctified Sarcasm.
2. Justified Jabs.
3. Consecrated Contempt.
4. Mitigated Mockery.

How about the rest of you? Any ideas? Please note that this thread is meant to be some lighthearted fun!

I can already hear the roar of people who are going to say, "Way to go, Seoulsearch... Would GOD be laughing at the things you're saying???!!!"

You know what? I think He just might, at the very least, find it amusing. (I know the next retort is going to be, "YOU can find it amusing... all the way to hell!") But, something interesting to consider... As pointed out in the definition above, the Pharisees were the Original Jesus Jukers (isn't this ironic, since they didn't believe in Jesus), as they never hesitated to "inject God" into a conversation. And yet... we know what Jesus said in reply: "The tax collectors and prostitutes are entering heaven before you."

Saying it's wrong to say Jesus juking seems to me a Jesus juke in and of itself. I'm not going to do some politically correct term.

You mean there was never really a great big Jesus Jukebox out there somewhere?? :(

I understand the meaning behind 'Jesus Juker' .... and although the definition is quite right, I personally don't like the use of the term involved. Especially when illustrated with a picture of Jesus. I don't want to sound boring ad dull here, but it really is a form of blasphemy, and I know those using it don't mean it that way.. but more thought needs to be used..remember non Christians use the same pictures of Jesus..to jibe fun.

An alternative term should be used..or just ignore the post.

Whatever you call it, I got accused of it just a bit ago. I think sometimes some people too quickly call it.

I sometimes say "Scripture bombing", but that only applies to people spouting off a lot irrelevant bible verses and isn't really the same thing as Jesus juking.

I can't think of a more catchy term for it, but I have to kind of agree that I'm not comfortable using Jesus' name that way, or with cutsie pictures representing Jesus. The concept of this juking I definitely understand though. It can be a problem.

Or if we need something alliterative how about pious pretense or spiritual spewing or something along the lines of "A puritan is a person who is afraid that someone somewhere is having fun".

OK so here are my votes (I'm going for one for each letter of the alphabet):

Alpha and Omega adjustment
Bible belching
Churchy Chucking
Divine directing
Enforced Enlightening
F(Ph)arisaical flyover
Godly graffiti
Holy handgrenading
Insincere interruption
Jesus Juke (it's already used and I can't think of one better)
Knightly Knockoff
Lawless Lob
Manifest moronicness
Neverending nitwits
Ominpresent opiner
Pious pretense
Querulous quoters
Righteous raids
Spiritual spewing
Thread Theologizing
Ungodly usurpers
Vitriolic virtue
Workaholic witnessing
X (excitement exterminators)
Yelling yahoos (go look up gulliver's travels)
Zealous zip-it-upers (c'mon Z is a hard letter)

Ok there's my list, thank you spellcheck, and thesaurus and tired brain.

Yeah, all I can say is I agree. I feel very uncomfortable with the term when Jesus' name is in it.

But then again, are we even really doing any better by finding an alternative? I see the fun in thinking of new terms and having a chuckle, but at the end of the day, we're just name calling. I can think of a few good names myself, but honestly, I'd feel like a 3rd grader throwing it out there on someone.

I usually like to beat people's heads in before trying to lift them up again. :p I'm terrible, I know.
