A couple of days ago I saw a tiny spot on my skin about the size of a pin head. Silly me, I just couldn't leave it alone. I kept scratching at it until it was sore and about the size of a match head....and now it just might leave a scar. If I'd left it alone, it probably would have disappeared without a trace within a couple of days, but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.... I hadta mess with it.

Life is like that.
Someone hurts us, intentionally or not.
Someone betrays us.
Someone picks an argument with us.
Someone lies or gossips about us.
We have a decision to make.
Picking at scabs causes them to fester and leave needless scarring.

Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. ~ Romans 12:17-21

Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil. Eph 4:26-27

I have never lost sleep over having been gracious, have you? :)

We see a lot of scab picking in certain threads here...

Reminds me of a cartoon I once saw.

The moral of the story is, it's a lot easier to be a jerk to words on a screen than it is to be a jerk to someone in person. ;)

It holds for everyone except professional insult comics.

Scab-picking for me has always been a needless orientation toward certain aspects of my past. If x could have been different I wouldn't be in situation y.

If you focus on actually getting out of situation y, then you won't constantly think about x, but rather solutions to y.

That's work though and who has time for that?

We tend to pick at scabs more as well when something else is brewing underneath... Like some kind of infection such as pride or jealousy etc. but when we are close to the Father and trust Him fully and He tells us not to pick at the scab, since we are grounded in Him, we listen and leave the scab alone, letting it do it's healing as it should be.
