It is so easy to focus on what we don't have in our lives, isn't it? In light of the above verse, I thought it might be helpful to focus on what we DO have. :)

In the seasonal people/Madea video threads, there were discussions regarding the leaves (temporary people) and branches (those who break and run when the going gets rough), and ROOTS. Roots are the people in your life who will be there, love you and encourage you even when the sky is falling. When you're being a jerk. When you do something really stupid and self-destructive. They help you change. They help you grow. They hold you when you need it and shove you when the pity parties last too long. They know when to shut up and when to shine light in your darkness. And they know you'd do the same for them.

Who are the roots in YOUR life?

These have been mine:

GOD IS A GIVEN, right? :)

My parents
My brothers
My son
My dog :)
And three friends who would walk through fire with me...and have.

By root, did you mean (16)^(1/2) = 4? Or are you talking of imaginary roots, like (-16)^(1/2) = 4i? :D

Mine has been -

1. God
2. My parents
3. A couple of close friends (one of whom I've known since I was a toddler)
4. Myself .. yes, I always talk to myself when I want to push myself to do something

The whole father's side of my family. We're really tight, closer than (I have observed) most families are. You jump on one member of our family, you get the whole gang on your back. If a member of our family did something to start the trouble we'll make it right with you, then take care of the errant member ourselves.

My pastor. I left a sort of poem about him in the Poems & Poetry forum. Not one bit of that is exaggerated.

Two friends at church that will tell me to my face when I'm doing something stupid, then help me get back up after I've done it anyway.

No roots? :( No wonder there are so many sad threads here....

Father, we pray that You will send at least one person to everyone reading this to walk along side them. To pray with them. To encourage them. To take them by the hand and pull them along when needed. To share joyous times with them. To uphold their arms as Aaron's sibs did. To cry and fight with them as David/Jon, Joshua/Caleb.

But seriously, I have God, my family, both sides (although not all are Christians. Sigh) My Church family, both on the internet and in real life.

The Lord has richly blessed me with two friends who are near and dear to my heart who I would call roots. He also blessed me with an incredible mother who has become a solid root for me. God is the ultimate root of course, and He is the only reason I have these other roots. :D

My roots are God and myself.. although I wish I had someone else I could call my root. I used to have friends like that when I was younger. Now its just God.

2. Few friends who are like family to me. Real friends are family we choose.
3. Money...not the root of all evil but all good things from God.
4. Dreams- if you can consider that as roots that keep you going and keeps you alive.

I liked it b/c I could relate.
The truth, however, is that while they are not always the same person, I have people that fill those roles, sometimes once, sometimes more than once.
