I was scrambling eggs with cheddar cheese this morning, smiling to myself, remembering the first time I tried it maaaaaaaaaaaaaaany years ago. I put the cheese in way too soon and it was a big gloppy mess back then. :)

So what was the worst thing you ever made or cooked? :)

imagesCAYF514L.jpg

Some of mine:

- I made a cherry cheesecake for a guy because he said it was his favorite dessert. I got the recipe off of the Philly Cheese box. :) I don't know what I did wrong, but it was AWFUL!!!

My dad had retired from the military and we were living on a farm for a couple of years. The chickens wouldn't even eat it!

- Learning to make great milk gravy is a badge of honor for a GRITS (girl raised in the South :) ). The first time I made milk gravy it was SO thick that a spoon I stuck in there stood up straight for 4 HOURS.

- I used self-rising flour in my mom's best sweet pancake/waffle batter recipe. They made great doorstops. :)

I make sourdough bread, because it is so much better than that floppy, gummy, spongy stuff at the store. It requires a "starter," a live yeast culture. You have to feed it and set it out to propagate a few hours before you plan to make some bread. One day I was running late so on my way out the door I asked my brother to feed the starter for me and set it out. Instead of bread flour he used self-rising flour. When I got home the whole mess smelled like someone had got drunk, then vomited, then peed on what he had vomited. Not good.

Another time I didn't let the starter propagate long enough. This was back when I was just figuring out what I was doing. The resulting loaves would have made great boat anchors, but they fell through the floor before we could try it. I'm exaggerating, but they certainly were solid...

Not proud of this a bit, but in my early taxidermy days I was a little bit of a butterfingers. Sometimes let things go a little bit........long. Would set things down and not work on them for a while. Bad form, really.

This little fella had a habit of burying bones all over and he put one in a hole already dug. Unfortunately it was dug by the road repair crew out on Hwy 16. When he went to dig it up.......it was one of my first commissions. Here's a picture....

I made some truly vile beef stroganoff for dinner just last night. I have no idea what I did wrong. My kid loved it, I picked at it and ended up eating a slice of toast instead, and my husband put a handful of different seasonings in his and had seconds.

The first time I made chocolate chip cookies, I didn't want to wait for the butter to soften, so I melted it and then mixed up the dough. Don't. Do. That.

I accidentally doubled the shortening in a brownie recipe I wasn't doubling.

That's just the ones that I'm emotionally ready to talk about...

I know I've made some pretty terrible things, especially when it comes to coffee. But I think one of the most challenging things as a gluten-free person is...bread. All breads. Including quick breads.

We (yes, I had accomplices....I'm not completely guilty) made a gluten-free bread once and at first it tasted all flavorful and stuff...then it cooled down. Yuuuuuck. DI.SGUST.TING. We've had that happen multiple times.

I forgot to put salt in the banana bread batter...you never know how much salt helps until you don't add it. There have been many-a-sabotaged banana breads here in this house. Mainly made by me. So when the last batch of banana bread I made actually TASTED GOOD...I think everyone was pleasantly surprised. (Seriously, I'm one of the better cooks/bakers in the house, and I'm making mistakes like that?? Lord help us all.)

One time, I made scrambled eggs with bacon bits, dehydrated onion, salt, pepper, I think even red pepper. Please...don't do that to yourself. Never ever ever make this. I don't know WHAT I was thinking when I made it.

I once made a turkey sandwich out of turkey that had been in the fridge a while. My sister walked in and immediately began carrying on about how awful the kitchen smelled, and how the turkey must be spoiled. I shrugged, telling her I had salted the sandwich and it tasted fine. To this day she tells the story, but there was nothing wrong with the turkey. I think her nose is off.

P.S. I suffered no ill effects from the sandwich, and would have had another but someone had thrown the turkey away. I feel like Kenthomas would have backed me up on this one, we could have had a nice lunch together.

I have nooooo idea. I think I was just really hungry. Oh, I meant black pepper and cayenne pepper when I said pepper and red pepper. :p I should have specified...or I should learn not to post stuff when I've only had 4 hours of sleep.

I was at my sister's house and we decided to skip supper. I got so hungry and late into the night I woke up to make a quick snack of fried ugali. ( its a traditional...Just Google.) you will find out it's not meant to be mixed in together with onions, oil, salt tomatoes. But in my defence, there were no vegetables to eat it with.

it was so terrible. I left the disgusting mess in my sister's house the next day.

Well I'm a decent sauce maker now but I had some early attempts at gravy where I didn't know what I was doing or what ingredients and proportions to use. Those gravies ended up more like hot grease with clumps of flour in them. The only other thing I can remember making and then having to throw out was some spaghetti squash that I tried to season like spaghetti and the garlic and squash combo just wasn't tasty. There may have been some green chocolate chip cookies one year around St. Patrick's day as well; they tasted fine, just looked strange.

Peanut butter oatmeal. I ended up eating it all, but to this day I still wish I had thrown it away instead. True story.

I've done peanut butter oatmeal before. It sounded good in theory... but it wasn't.

Hahaha, I made pb oatmeal yesterday :D
This is definitely divine if this has happened to all three of us
I took an garlic crusher and put fruit in it and had it be 'pb&j' oatmeal.
....I do not have experience working in nursing homes I promise. lol.

Unlike many other members of the species with both X and Y chromosomes I have done relatively well in the kitchen over the years. I think the biggest mistake I made in the kitchen was at the young age of 10 (or so). It was my sister's birthday and I offered to make her birthday cake. Mom accepted my offer and I set out making a simple sheet cake with homemade frosting.

When it was all said and done the cake turned out well and tasted good all except for the fact that the frosting had a rather gritty texture to it. (at ten years old I didn't know that Confectioners sugar was another term for powdered sugar, NOT a brand name).:eek:

Now crushed fruit... that and just a very small amount of peanut butter would be good in oatmeal.
