i honestly dont have anything against screamo, but is there a such thing as "christian" screamo music? for we have christian music to glorify god and meditate on his amazing love and to help us out to pray(you know, to get in the zone/mood). so my question is this, can you really worship God with screamo? can you meditate on it? can you feel God's presence through screamo music? can we glorify his name with screamo? these are really good questions that confuse me everyday. can anyone help me get the answer?

Who says you have to meditate on it for it to be worship?...

Worship means you're glorifying God with your actions. Screamo music can definitely fall under that category. While I don't like screamo, I DO like Rock in general, and the same applies there. It also applies to Rap, R&B, Ragtime, techno, and every other genre of music you can think of. If the words are praising God, it CAN be a worship song.

Of course. the worship comes from the one singing it, or in some cases, the one actively listening to it BECAUSE of the good message. Listening to it doesn't automatically make it worship.

And if you wanna get REALLY technical with your whole "meditating thing.".... Modern praise music is BORING and REPETITIVE and when I hear the chorus for the 50th time, and then they say "No instruments, just voices," I'm ready to go to sleep, and I start thinking less of God and more of when the song will finally freakin' end. Don't get me wrong, I love God and I even kinda like some of the songs, but they're just a little extreme with 'em and makes it hard to focus on God =/

hey, i didn't mean anything offencive, and why did you mention meditate so much? is that all you saw in this message? i was just curious if you can glorify God's name with screaming. and NO i dont wanna get technical with meditating, for i put many other examples up there and you just seem to be bashing on just meditating.

Oh no, you didn't offend me at all, I'm sorry if I came across as mean ^_^

I focused on "meditate" because you used the word twice in your questions lol.

Anyway, for a more full answer (and since I'm more awake than I was the last time), first, your main thing was that you said "for we have christian music to glorify god and meditate on his amazing love and to help us out to pray(you know, to get in the zone/mood)." That was my main point in the last post. Current "praise" music does NOT get me in the zone/mood, and honestly annoys the heck out of me lol. Screamo wouldn't do much better in my case, but the point is that different people focus in different ways, and for some it may be screaming music ^_^

And for the second part of your post -

"so my question is this, can you really worship God with screamo?"

Why yes, you can =D

"can you meditate on it?"

Some can, some can't... In fact, few can, many can't. But the music is made specifically for the few ~_o

"can you feel God's presence through screamo music?"

You can feel God's presence without any music at all =D

"can we glorify his name with screamo?"

Definitely. If the lyrics are praising him, it glorifies his name. Period.

And what I was saying about rock- A few decades ago, I'm sure these same questions were asked about rock music. Many people classified rock as the "Devil's music," and would refuse to listen to it, even if it WAS praising God. Now, most praise music is something along the lines of very soft-core rock music. Just because many people may not like the particular style of music does not mean that it cannot be Godly.

And this thread reminded me of a few songs I haven't heard in a while... Like this one!

It's ok. I used to be a huge fan of bands like Underoath, the Chariot, etc., before I was even Christian. Oddly enough, I don't listen to that stuff as much, nowadays. But sometimes I do.

The type of music is superficial. What is important in the heart of the people singing the songs. About some songs being boring and repetitive it's not supposed to entertain you its supposed to glorify God.

I think screamo can glorify God, I mean, I've never seen anyone sing screamo at Church , but I think if the artist feels that he is glorifying God in what he does than thats what matters

Well, let me first say that I really don't know what "screamo" music is. But, if the name of the style is any indication, then I find myself wondering why anyone would feel the need to SCREAM at God in order to tell Him that you love Him. Somehow I doubt God is all that impressed, but, I'll lean not to my own understanding.

God bless all who have posted,
Richard

Well, I don't listen to screamo, or any type of metal or punk music much anymore, but some Christian bands I used to listen to quite a bit in my early teens, when screamo was one of my favourite genres are Underoath, War of Ages, Oh Sleeper, and Haste the Day.

Also, the record label "Solid State Records" specializes in Christian metal, screamo, hard rock, etc.

Like I said, it's not really my cup of tea anymore, but hopefully that gets you started.

I never heard of screamo music; so I know you may think I should not be answering to this post, but after reading your question and some of the responses; I can get somewhat an idea of what it could be and I felt led by God to put a response.
As you said; for us to get in the "zone/mood " this would be considered " getting out your flesh " we should be ready to praise and worship God at all times before, during and after any song has been played, Although this is not the case all the time. and I will admit; sometimes I need music to get out the flesh and into the full presence of God, I say full because I acknowledge God's presence all day and I talk to him almost all day. but when I am in, umm, I say a bad mood.. it is hard to come to God when I am more focused on my situation. so I would put on some worship music and here the worship lyrics of the song which will bring me to a conviction and to release everything and give God the worship he so deserve and getting out the flesh will allow me to hear God clearly for his answer to my promblem,
now we also have praise music; maybe something like King David listened to when he praised God so hard he danced right out of his clothes.. praise music is more faster and louder music.. which we clap, stomp our feet, jump up and down to... we dance.. for we hear the same words that are in our hearts that we have toward God... and yes we can get in his presence because it is he we are dancing for and we are dancing about. every word will be aimed toward the heart of God.. every beat of the music is the music that is in us.. a new song God has put in us all... remember they used some of everything to make music to God in the Old Testament.... look at the instruments God said that he created in Lucifer in the day he was created... bass as well as harps and many other...
so know matter the kinda of music, God said make a joyful noise unto him... what might be really bad for one ( like noise ), will be a blessing to another.. for it speaks their hearts to God in the way they want it spoken for it is how God made us as unique induviduals... to go to God any other way, will not be going to him at all....
May you be in the Peace of God,
