One of the things I love to do is look through my dad's telescope and talk about space. As a little kid I was convinced I was going to be an astronaut :) Well, I can still get there but bad ankles might not be in my favour. One thing though that really really fascinates me is how time and space are connected. Theres a principle called space dilation and simply put, if you could travel at the speed of light, time would stand still for you relative to someone back on earth timing you. Time is also affected by mass. So when you pass by massive objects or even big planets, time is slowed. Hang out near a black hole if your brave enough and time will dramatically slow for you relative to someone on earth. Theres maths I could put here thats quite simple, but I wondered if others like this sort of stuff as well - any other space geeks out there?

Yes.

Wanted to do astronomy, love to study and look at space, but I recently changed that goal. I'll still be doing my own study on space though!

Right now I'm looking more into pulsars(neutron stars) and quasars.

Billions of stars packed into a single galaxy, with the universe containing billions of galaxies. There is so much we don't know. The chances of other life, the mysteries of changing time dimensions.... there is so much we have discovered in the last 20 years. Its going to be amazing to see what we know in another 50 :)

Right now you sound like one of those hosts of the many space documentaries. :p

Sigh, thinking about space always makes me want to chase my goal of being an astronomer.

I have some amazing pictures about space that I want to share! Gotta run to church now, will upload them later. :D

Chuck Missiler has interesting studies on ytube regarding time/space/cosmology

Thank you Zoii for this thread lol

Ahhh forgive Sky excitement
The poet in me dreams
Upon stars
The realist says
Not while on this earth lol

I believe God created the Univere
Back then

Because He knew
He knew
We would question it

Remember God created humanity
And in Eden we failed
Yet
God has a thing we love is called Faith

Faith is trust in what is NOT seen?
So why do we trust dinosaurs
Cavemen?

The devils power is limited
For he is allowed to tempt

But the devil CAN make tricks for us
Know that we live in mortality

Our test of love
Do we love?

Yesss
The devil plays and persecutes
Christias

But remember

If Jesus showed himself years . Ago

Or now?
The crooked government
Would kidnap Jesus
Disect him on facebook

We would cry
The world would have ended years ago
If truth came back!

God is giving people a chance
What fools do
I dunno

At 6:54 on the video clip, when the interviewer asked about his findings on super-symmetry.

John Ellis said, "Hopeful, but not overly confident".

At 7:21, he said "we could never actually make a super symmetry particle..."

8:00 Later he said, "If you asked me what will be my backup if we don't find super symmetry... I gonna have to scratch my head, and say I don't know."

Hmmm... feels like he's back at square 1.

Here's a few of the most interesting objects in the universe. ^^

1) Sagittarius B2

Sagittarius B2.jpg

It's a massive cloud of gas which also contains alcohol and it's told that the cloud would taste like raspberries.

2) Diamond Planet

Diamond Planet.jpg

1/3rd of the planet is made up of diamond due to the high density of carbon present. It more massive than the earth as well.

3) Largest quasar group (largest object in the universe discovered so far)

Largest quasar group.jpg

Theoretically, something like this can't exist, it breaks the laws of physics. Quasar is basically a HUGE black hole.

4) Largest water reservoir in the universe discovered so far

Water Reservoir.jpg

The largest water reservoir is found in the core of a quasar. It contains 140 trillion times the amount of water in the earth. The amount of energy that this quasar releases is also in the trillion terms when compared to the sun.

5) Neutron star (aka Pulsar)

Neutron star.jpg

When a star dies, it either turns into a black hole or a neutron star. Neutron stars are much much smaller than the sun but are much much more denser than the sun, a tiny bit of a neutron star like a spoonful is heavier than Mt.Everest.

I know a lot of people here dont accept the idea of Bing Bang because they feel it is a theory at odds to the laws of god or the bible. I do know a lot though that do. I dont want to get into a horrible debate about it but for me the whole complexity and even actual birth of this universe sits well with genesis. If you dont agree please take it easy on me coz I'm not trying to offend anyone on this.

Theres also a lot of chatter about string theory. I've only seen bits in documentaries but it brings up the idea of additional physical dimensions. How does this stuff sit with your guys. Too much?

No one can really say that Big Bang never happened for sure, Genesis doesn't give specific details on how exactly light was formed or how exactly the earth was formed when God created them with His words. Some process should have taken place. When God created light and everything else in the universe it should have taken years and years, I don't believe it happened in the blink of an eye. Even the formation of the earth should have taken millions for the rocks to form together. As scientist say, even the other planets had a role in formation of the earth. Millions of years can be one day for God.

Genesis tells us that God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was dark and the Angel of God was hovering over the waters of the earth. I believe that before the Angel was hovering over the waters, lucifer was thrown down to the earth. Researchers who study this tells us that there was a gap of millions of years between the fall of lucifer and the creation of light, plants, animals, humans etc.

There are actually 10 dimensions but only four are recognizable , the others deal with sub atomic particles.

No, they don't. That's your own presuppositions talking. By the way, it was the Spirit of God (Holy Spirit), not the Angel of God.

There was a scholar who had visited my church and gave a speech. Later I talked to him about Genesis, he does his research too relating it to the discoveries of space years and years before us. I got the knowledge from him, it's not my own presupposition. But I was wrong to say researchers. And yes, the Spirit of God, thank you for correcting that.
