I know that there are some words we Christians can't say (anything that takes God's name in vain) but why should man decide what God thinks is a swear word? Like the f-word... where in the BIble does it ban that word... so practically, can we say the words that people think are bad, as long as they don't take glory from God???

You already take glory from God simply by wanting to find a "word" to say. Now go play somewhere else.

If you swear on here, you'll get banned. As a christian, you shouldn't even WANT to be swearing, much less looking for words to say that won't go against God or the bible..

i honestly think you've got a pretty valid question & point.

another point to be made though is that we as Christians shouldn't be putting 'stumbling blocks' in the way of other believers.
like, drinking alcohol by itself isn't a sin ((but drunkenness is foolish behavior we should not get involved in)) -- however many Christians believe it is wrong and are offended by even a single beer or glass of wine. so, just like you shouldn't drink in front of an alcoholic - for the sake of their conscience, not your own - you shouldn't drink in front of a fellow believer for whom it is an offense.
same thing with language. in Christ, we're free. and you're right - not everything the world calls a 'curse word' is 'taking the Lord's name in vain' -- but the fact remains that other believers are offended by it, so when they hear it, their minds are taken off of right things. it's this offense that is wrong for us -- not so much the word. as much as possible, we should not be crude, and try to live at peace with each other, showing love. for the sake of other's conscience, not so much your own.
and of course, if it offends your own conscience, it is sin for you.

it doesn't bother me. but i try to be careful with my tongue ((as much as i can)) so others are not bothered, and so i don't give a wrong impression to those who see me as a Christian, and would look down on Christ because of what i do.

hope that makes sense -- really, again, i think you've got a good point :)

at the heart of it -- we've got to love each other - and love doesn't give offense where it can be avoided.

I Corinthins 10:23
“Everything is permissible,” but not everything is helpful. “Everything is permissible,” but not everything builds up.

Ephesians 4:29

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

These folks did a good job of answering. I'll add a view from a natural standpoint. You will never be taken seriously as a professional unless you learn how to properly address people. Intelligent people have no need to stoop to cursing. It's the lower classes who aren't intelligent enough to converse without cursing.

I don't even let my children use replacement words. A replacement word is anything you use in place of the swear word. It's just not necessary and amounts to the same thing.

There is a world of understanding in the words of Ephesians 4:29. Alas, the mere act of uttering cuss words has little to do with that world. Would that we could see beyond such frivolity.

True enough, we don't need to be cussing, but more importantly, neither should we keep bringing words of fear and condemnation to the very creatures Jesus came to bring back home, attempting to saddle them with men's rules and goals.

& I know what Blue is talking about,
because my English is not the best
I put a vulgar word but didn't know
that it was a swear, she advised me
if I continue to put this word I'll be banned...

But now, I pay more attention
to be a better person :)

lol, God looks at man's heart and his intentions in doing it so he knows how and why you used it. Also if you wanted some verses....look down this thread

Many of the curse words that we define as curse words were not directly from the biblical times and terms (other than using God's name in vain, which is self explanatory for people who use God in situations that would curse the name in bad situations.) Many of the terms (and slain words) used were created through historic writings and eventually illustrated in order to give their meaning in replacement of physical anger that man has displayed in order to highly disapprove on something or if they felt pain. Just as every language known with mankind, it evolved along with other words invented and given meaning that is common in today's society. The reason that many disapprove for others to use the terms is because of how they would be executed within the sentence to insult and damage another person or thing in reference of who they are talking about within those words.

If you have second thoughts about this, that means your conscience is pricking you. And since your conscience is the Holy Spirit, he's trying to tell you you're getting to close to the line-the nice way.

Spoken like a newbie! Are you serious? How can people use vulgarity and claim that it does NOT take glory from GOD? Just because you hear a rapper using explicit lyrics, does not mean that you, as a child of GOD, need to repeat those words and think that it is ok, since it is accepted by society. This only proves that YOU are not taking this concern of yours to CHRIST. The internet is your source of info concerning spiritual issues, and that is SAD. Next time you pray, ask GOD "Lord, can I use certain vulgar words, as long as it is not banned in the BIBLE and YOU are not missing any glory when I repeat them?" When you do, listen to your own words as they bounce back from the ceiling and learn from them, please. At least be honest and laugh at yourself. Why not ask for any of those spiritual gifts mentioned in I Corinthians, chapter 12 and then, you will find your answer. Is this too hard to understand?

Let's face it...today's society, for the most part, think that JESUS went about speaking perfect Carolingian English...Doest thou not know this, verily verily? lol

Jesus spake a parable unto the multitude saying what enters a man enters into the belly is cast in draught. But what s comes out of a man comes forth from the heart and that is what defileth a man. (Not word for word but I was paraphrasing)
