Similar to what i put in another post recently, i also have family members that do homeschooling. Four girls. All four of them are very well behaved and obedient and respectful to their parents and other elders. They are all talented in speaking German, art (have won competitions), horse riding (have won competitions), various instruments (been in multiple bands/won solo competitions. as well as having been in recording studios), singing, frequently performing in small concerts up to festivals. The oldest has been to Germany. As a family they have traveled to various areas of the US and even done some hiking in the mountains. They have also had their hands in other experiences such as gymnastics. They are all well socialized and have no problems with kids their own age or adults, because they get to experience such a wide variety of activities. They are also all well educated in all the primary subjects.
So they are probably better at socialization than most public school kids because they don't learn all the negative behaviors that can be learned in public school, and they spend time around a larger range of ages of people. They don't live in an area with a lot of home schoolers, but there are some. The parents simply create their own opportunities to educate and expand their childrens experiences. So lack of socialization and experiences (or this idea that they don't face tough situations and therefore will be helpless adults) has more to do with what they are offered and less to do with home schooling itself.
Ahhh, yes. I totally agree! Sadly, a lot of public schoolers can only converse with people in their age range. As a homeschooler, my age range is actually the group that I have the HARDEST time talking with! Give me someone over 40 or under 7 any old day.

lol I barely deal with people my age because I seperate myself from them. The main people I talk and have contact to (besides teachers) are 40-80s lol

But I mean, aren't they the best?? How can you learn anything from fellow teens? (besides, of course "everyone makes mistakes" and what you're going through is "normal" so that must make it "right"). I'm sorry. Mini rant at an end ;)

homeschooled all our six kiddos. it was a wonderful thing. :)

hang in there, James, and see if your folks can connect with a local homeschool group.
they're just all over the place, and if they need help finding one, i bet the state homeschool group can assist. :)

I was homeschooled too until middle school. So I know how that is and appreciated it. When I got into public school that is when the homosexual agenda was beginning to ramp up and confuse our children, confuse our parents, confuse our grandparents, etc. It is sad. Still glad I did not sign that banner of tolerance. Thank you Lord!

Miri is right about there being few children who are homeschooled in the UK. However there are networks of homeschoolers who provide support for each other and also get together.

I really admire parents who home school their children it isn't the easy option particularly if you do it properly. I looked into homeschooling my son when he was around six ultimately decided not to as things at school improved. It is important that your parents ensure you have an appropriate education ie. you are not just sitting at home doing nothing and that it is at an appropriate level also that you have opportunities to socialise with your peers. I have known homeschooled kids who have come along to church youth groups and have done scouts aswell. Also we have had a suprising number of homeschooled children who have come along to our school of rock and performance where we put students into bads and coach them to play together. These type of activities are important for home schooled children.

Hi JamesHurst,

I just read what you were saying. I feel the same way! I'm homeschooled myself and used to be in school. I was brought out when I was 10yrs. Anyway, since then I don't see my friends anymore because there all in school. And before I didn't have time for God when I was in school. But now I do...since I'm now homeschooled. So I wanted to encourage you, that you are not alone. I'm feeling what you're feeling. So here's my thoughts...Homeschooling is better. Trust me! You'll be glad that you're homeschooled. So don't worry God will give you friends soon! I'm still praying for friends myself. So trust in God that this homeschooling business will work out! Bye

From,

I think it would benefit you to get involved in sports, music, art, science club etc. I especially think sports is important. You learn to work as a team and value the other players as much as your position.

Ive joined a drama club thing and theres two other people in there who are also homeschooled so Ive been talking to them a lot in and out of the sessions. At first I wasn't sure about going because I've never done acting before but my parents wanted me to try it because my doctor said it would help with my 'confidence issues' but it has been fun and Ive liked it. At the moment were doing we will rock you and then were performing it in August and I love Queens music so that is really good. They havent given out parts yet but I hope I get to be someone cool!!

When I got in trouble I changed schools. Not many people home school in the UK. I think it would be a bit weird not having any friends.
