I think its bad. But I'm confused because I know of some who has been saved but still say it. But give me a straight answer, I'm slow mentally.

Yes, it's a sin to disrespect God's name. Especially, if you're a Christian. The last example especially has no place on a Christian's lips. But we can disrespect God's names in other ways too. Like saying something is from God, even when it isn't, either to further our own agenda or to lend our opinion more credibility/authority. That's messed up!

Simply put, there is power in the spoken word. Especially in speaking the Name of God. When you speak His Name in curses you are trying to invoke evil from Him upon something/someone else. God does not honor that kind of speech. And neither should we.

Agree with the above.

It's taking the Lords name in vain.

You can't help that the world around u does it - but u don't have to.

Exactly. There is power to heal and bring revelation in the name of the Lord. To waste such on cursing is the ultimate waste of God's Name and power.

I'm not sure if you're mentally slow or just trolling. But I hope for your sake that you're the former and not the latter.

Never day Gods name without being conscious that you are saying Gods name.. Never use it for anything other then a title for God..

So people who say the OMG and GD are not thinking about God when they use it.. they are not calling out to God.. They are using it as a cuss word..

Looks like i have to lenghten this message because it is too short.. lets try posting it again..

People say it a lot. I used to before I was reborn. Is it bad?[/QUOTE]

I think what most people will try to do here is get you to understand, for yourself, what you are really trying to say by asking, "is it 'bad'? "

Are you endeavoring to decide your own standards, or are you hoping to (as so many here do) have some ammunition to fire at others to show them they are not meeting your expectations?

Jesus constantly and consistently told us to simply be concerned about ourselves.

Well, it is number three on God's top ten Don't Dos, so apparently God thinks it's pretty bad - and his opinion Udall that matters.

Yes many Christians use it, and many will get mad if you point out they should not.
I have had Christians on this site attack me after asking them not to say "oh my gosh" , because I know they are really trying to say that other thing, just rewriting it.

Sometimes a bad word / sentence slips through our lips, and I think God understands that, but we should do what we could to avoid using His name in vain / to curse / to do anything negative.

I dont wanna know how many times I say Oh my God.. especially when something bad happens..I got rid of the God damn because words have power and calling for God to damn something is not good. And if it slips out I say the right opposite a few times. We shouldnt use his name in VAIN. For me, it helps me to calm down of almost anything because it reminds me that God is there and ready to work. Thats just my view though.

You have a legitimate question as many have acknowledged and good on you for reaching out to others so you can educate yourself on the matter, that's not trolling, that's what these forums are here for. It's very unfortunate to label you as possibly 'mentally slow' as that's offensive to those who are genuinely disabled and it's put in a pejorative context, as I work with children with special needs, it's not a tone or a context I would happily employ.

That aside, using the phrase "God ...." isn't encouraged in the christian faith as it doesn't give reverence to our Lord Jesus Christ. When we're in His house, when we are to use His name in any walk of life, it is to be used in a very reverential respect. If we're going to bring honour to Him our saviour, not only our language but our fruits of the spirit must match. Beyond words, we can do many things to disgrace our Fathers name, that is, deeds that do not follow Jesus in the least. However our actions aside, beginning with our language choices, as a Christian it's best to put our Lord's Name in the most elevated context possible.

Curious. I thought "Oh, my gosh" came first?

Thank you everyone. When I say I am "mentally slow" I mean no offense to anyone. I am saying that I may not be quick to catch on to things.

I wasn't addressing your post with that particular point. There's nothing wrong with what you wrote and I hope you found the help you sought after here.

That sounds like too much of a coincident, doesn't it? Why would someone start saying oh my gosh? (what does gosh mean then? :p )

I don't know. But I'm sure I came across that in my reading. That said, while I don't use the term, I really don't see how it equates to disrespecting God's name.
