Amateur redneck. We used something called a Whammo. It was a full metal wrist-rocket sling shot. Sadly, they don't make it anymore, but they now have professional versions. Wooden sling shots? Those we could take to Show N Tell. Whammos killed. (Usually squirrels and rabbits, but they're good eats. lol) Wooden ones just hurt.
I NEED ONE.
Really. I am a bad redneck. I only wear boots for practicality and I hate wranglers.

Just curious what is show and tell?
It's a time in school for small kids to show off their prized possessions and tell why they are wonderful.

Me: I have something special for show n tell.
Teacher: Go ahead, Blue.
Me: Pulls garter snake out of my pocket, says "Isn't he cool? He eats bugs".

lol

*this did not actually occur.* :p

Show n tell is when you bring something really cool to school to show the other kids.
It would have happened, but Mom made my brother take it out of his pocket before he went to school. lol

In junior high, he was able to take in one of his critters (I don't remember which one, but I think it was either the caiman or black snake. The box was big) for his science class.

I remember, because Mom called for a taxi to take us -- my first taxi ride -- and the driver was late, so we were both late for school that day. (My first normal taxi ride too, apparently. lol)

15 years ago.....plus 4 or 5...folks would be from 18-21...might get more responses from the young adults.

My kids still have show and tell on special days...my daughter had a project this year to bring 3 things in a paper bag that represent things about her...she is in 3rd grade.

She brought her bible because she loves God
A rock I have her from the Dominican republic trip because our family likes to travel

Forgot her 3rd thing but it was because she liked art or music.

Some of the preschool kids bring in rocks that look cool and they make up stories about leaves they collect, etc.

Anything and everything that they think is cool.

Some of the parents of the kids might be able to tell you stories.

Online research...

For children ages 4 to 8, playtime gets a little more adventurous.

Animal Planet Jumbo Dino Playset, by Imaginarium, $24.99. Children can go back to the dinosaur era with this playset. It includes a play mat that depicts rivers, rocks and footprints, and children can move the dinosaur figures around on top of it.

Rescue Heroes, by Fisher-Price, $5.99 to $9.99 per figure, and $74.99 for the Command Center. When danger and trouble lurk, Rescue Heroes help kids save the day, a popular theme since Sept. 11. There is also an Aqua Command Center that can serve as the figures' base of operations.

Bratz, by MGA Entertainment, $14.99. The Bratz are four hip friends with a "passion for fashion." These four groovy, multi-cultural dolls (each sold separately) have their own attitude and style. Yasmine, Jade, Chloe and Sasha each come with an 11-by-17-inch poster of the whole Bratzpack posing with attitude.
