I've got an inkling for a story set in the early 21st century and need some advice from folks who were the right age then. The main character goes to Show N' Tell at school one day. First, please tell me some nursery schools through first grades still had Show N Tell when you were that age. And second, desperately hoping they did, what did you take to show, and why? Also, if it's considered vintage now, I'm going to have to ask which year it was.

My Show N' Tell days were in the early 60's, so I have no idea what anyone took in the early 21st century. (And I don't remember what I took back then either.)

And, if you were homeschooled, but you're the right age anyway, (the story takes place in roughly 2001, but right around that year is fine too), what would you have taken if you could have?

Much appreciated.

An Apple Ipod, 2001 I believe was the first year it came out and it was revolutionary to the smartphones/mp3 players we have today ...it beat carrying a case full of cd's and a portable cd player....could store a whopping 5gb of data lol,
It was the grandfather of most modern mp3 players/smartphones....really cool to see it's evolution over the years it all started with the apple ipod classic....link below...

Your parents gave you a $400 music player when you were in nursery school to first grade? Wow! Life really is different in this century. Who filled the tunes? And, dare I ask, which kind of music were you listening to? (I'm thinking How Much is that Doggy in the Window or One-Eyed, One-Horn Flying Purple People Eater weren't big hits still. lol)

I guess I'm too old. I showed how to put together a balsa wood model airplane, and I flew it out over the heads of my 3rd grade class. I think that was about 1953.

Oooo, I am so going to use that in the story. I love it. But what kind smells good? (I can't use flavored chapsticks on my lips specifically because I keep licking it off, and therefore, chap my lips more. lol)

She was a buzzkill....lol. I also remembered I took a sling shot once.
Redneck much? Maybe....just maybe. lol
Amateur redneck. We used something called a Whammo. It was a full metal wrist-rocket sling shot. Sadly, they don't make it anymore, but they now have professional versions. Wooden sling shots? Those we could take to Show N Tell. Whammos killed. (Usually squirrels and rabbits, but they're good eats. lol) Wooden ones just hurt.

Me: I have something special for show n tell.
Teacher: Go ahead, Blue.
Me: Pulls garter snake out of my pocket, says "Isn't he cool? He eats bugs".

lol

*this did not actually occur.* :p

Show n tell is when you bring something really cool to school to show the other kids.
