    Default I need some help

Ok, hello. I'm Lucy, I'm 16, and I've recently started exploring the Christian faith. I'm doing religious studies as an a level and we look a lot at theology and through looking at that my views and beliefs have changed a lot. I've started looking into Christianity a lot more and would definitely say I'm a believer, but I have no clue where to go from here. I would really like to go to church tomorrow, but I have no clue what I'm supposed to wear or do. None of my friends or family or religious and I'm just really struggling right now. Any advice or help would be appreciated, and tbh just someone to talk to about all of this as I'm very confused right now as I did previously consider myself an atheist. Thanks x

Welcome to the body of Christ, we are a family & are glad you have decided to seek the Lord. If you decide to attend church you can dress modest and conservative. Rrespectable & nothing too revealing. At church services you normally listen to the pastors sermon. If you have a bible you may bring it. If not that's fine most churches already have bibles there. You should also try to read the bible daily as well as talk to the Lord through prayer.

Thank you so much for replying! That has really cleared up some of my worries, and how should I start with reading the bible? (silly question I know) from the beginning and work my way through the passages?

Where whatever you have and makes you feel comfortable when going to church. I do recommend a bible believing church that stresses that salvation comes from the shed blood of Jesus on the cross for our sins and that life is a spiritual journey in your walk with the Lord. I pray that God leads you on the right path. Glad to have you as a member of our family. Welcome to CC.

Church is like a home and if you do not feel at home then find another. Church's range from all different sizes and from traditional to more modern. Different sects of Christianity like baptist and methodist will disagree on salvation. I have not research other sects so I will not speak on them. As a methodist, we believe all are saved but if one does not live as a disciple of Christ in their heart then they can lose their salvation. While Baptist believes his people are pre-chosen and do not lose their salvation. I do not believe this disagreement will be the difference in Heaven or Hell but my point is, do your homework with the foundation of Gods Word to see what each church stands for. As alway read the Bible every day. I would read Mark, Acts, Romans, and then Genesis. This will give a good start on knowing Christ, the early church, and the beginning or reason why we needed a savior. Get connected with a church and the youth group. Let people know you are new the faith. And never take any ones word about scripture for face value even the preacher. But do your own homework so you can check the word of man to see if it lines up with the word of God. On my blog site, I have a blog describing what a new believer should know. Are You Really Saved?!

Read the bible every day, pray, learn how God speaks to you, listen to the inner groanings of the Holy Spirit, and find Christians who have been in the faith for a long time for guidance. The choice you are making is by no means a small one but will be the most wonderful choice you have ever made. You will find purpose and never again question your purpose for your life on earth. The secret to life is no secret. The love of Christ will always conquer evil.

You're welcome, you can begin reading it however you desire. You can start from the beginning (Old testament) or you can start from the (New testament) The book of John to be specific and read about the gospel & life of our Lord Jesus Christ. I personally began from the book of John but if you decide to begin from the Old Testament that's fine as well.

Welcome to the family of Christ

As already stated, it doesn't really matter where in the bible you start,
but the old testament can be a bit "heavy", so I think it might be best to start in the new testament, then, once you have an overview of who Jesus is, you can read the old testament and discover all the prophecies and how it all ties together.

Mark is the shortest gospel if you need a "introduction to Jesus"

For Church, it doesn't really matter much which one you go to. (It also depends what is within your area).

There are exceptions of course, but as a general rule:
Vineyard tends to be very informal (the paster doesn't wear a fancy outfit, and there might not be a preachers chair)
The church of Scotland is also fairly informal, so I wager a guess that the church of England is as well.
The Methodist church is more formal, and has more rituals (i.e. specific things might be said and done in a given order.)
The Episcopal church also is quite formal and ritual - based (at least the one I went to, it felt a bit old fashioned, in a nice way)
The Catholic church also has a lot of focus on rituals, but can be both very formal and informal
Pentecostals tend to be fairly informal, with a lot of standing up, clapping, praying out loud, maybe people speaking in tongues etc.

Also I encourage you to repent for your sins through prayer. As followers of christ we are to live righteously. For God said "be holy for I am holy". Resist all sinful temptations, seek the Lord & you will be rewarded. If you ever backslide, confess to the Lord, repent for your sins & ask for forgiveness and he will forgive you.

Thank you so much that was incredibly helpful, and having already read a bit of the Old Testament in my religious studies class I would have to agree with you, but again thank you so much for replying

Hi how r u.Its wonderful that u r searching for God,because he will allow to find him.He loves u so much and created u for his good pleasure.Christianity is so simple, its all about a personal loving intimate, not religionship, but relationship with God,Amen. The Bible states in Romans 10:8-13 discusses how one can receive God and the relationship With him and the gift of salvation=eternal life.Simple prayer of faith, confessing u r as we all r sinners, believing he died on the cross ,shed his blood for your sins, rose on the third day confess Jesus as your loving Lord and Saviour, ask him to come into your heart to live ,u will be saved.God doesnt make things confusion, the devil does.Next as u r studying in school to learn, its the same with growing in relationship with God,u study hid Word=Bible, fellowship with mature Christians to teach u so u can grow.Like anything its a lifestyle.I hope this helped u and if u see me in the rooms, please pm me.I am praying 4 u now,May God Bless You.

    Its wonderful you believe now!!!!!!!
Just get a bible (There are apps if you can't) and start reading His word and talking to our Father.
He wants a close relationship with you.
What you wear really depends on the church. Slacks and a nice shirt could be good for some churches or just a nice dress (respectful)

Don't worry about what your supposed to do, if they say let's pray then close your eyes if you wish, fold your hands if you wish and just listen to what they say.
You might do worship, you don't have to sing just listen to power of the lyrics.
I bet the church would love to get to know you so perhaps go up to a pastor after the service and just explain to him where you're at right now.

    Hello, lucy.

It looks like i did not get to see your intro and would still like to welcome you. There are many friendly, helpful God-fearing people here. Here's hoping you find people who will help in your Christian walk. As i young Christian before, listening to Christian radio was a big help to me, esp at night before bed when these are the things you think abt before going to sleep instead of other music/stuff. I hope you also find really uplifting teachings and music (Scripture songs) to listen to, for the latter esp helped me in hiding God's word in my heart as i dwelt on the scriptural messages.
