I never feel anything when I'm at church, or even when I pray. I figure that the disconnect is probably being caused by something I'm doing wrong, but I never feel anything when I try to ask for forgiveness either. Am I just an inherently unfeeling person most of the time, or am I going about this all wrong? I just feel like I'm faking my faith at this point, even though I really wish it felt real...

Any advice?

I suffer through this alot, you probably want it to be real but you aren't being sincere enough. When you pray, you have to really mean it and that it comes strait from the heart. I won't say you aren't a Christian, but if there is something holding you back whether its sin or maturity then you need to work on that

romans 10:17 "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."

Hebrews 4:12 "
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."

john 6:63 "
It is THE SPIRIT that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the WORDS that I speak unto you, they ARE SPIRIT, and they ARE LIFE."

spend 20-30 minutes in the words of matthew , mark, Luke and John. believe what you read, think about what you read ask God for understanding and wisdom (james 1:5:)

It will change your heart and mind

For me Christianity is bsed on what i believe and not on what i feel.. I never worry about or compare myself to other Christians in this regard,, Some people are more expressive and get more emotional but God knows everyone, what they believe and their intentions..

Yes, quit going by feelings!

There will be seasons where you don't feel anything and it's the Lord's desire for you to simply take Him at His Word whether you feel anything or not and know... KNOW that His Word is true!

Yes, you are still a Christian... if you were, you wouldn't have the presence of mind to be thinking about your relationship with the Lord and wanting to be right with Him.

Now is the time to get in t His Word, primarily the New Testament... maybe take time to read the entire Book of James which is foundational.

And, choose to not allow the enemy to bring thoughts to your mind "in the first person" (lies present as though they are your own thoughts when they aren't and come from without) to try and talk you into believing you are not born again.

Ah, okay! Feelings don't make faith. Got it!

Also, I should probably start reading my Bible this summer, yeah? I should have plenty of time for it, so I'll give the Gospels a breeze through. Heheh, probably should've done that sooner... ^^'

It's good to set up private time (at least 30 minutes) at the start of your day while your mind is rested and is just waking up so you can get your thinking on the things of God early in your day.

It's also good to be thankful and to praise Him for His promises being true and to ask the Lord to teach you more about guarding your thought life.
You actually got it going on just by desiring to be right with the Lord...

Okay, thanks for the advice! Of course, getting morning time with God is kind of difficult when you're in high school, but I'd do myself a favor by implementing your advice into my summer routine.

You're pretty cool, Rockrz; you too Adstar. And I get where you're coming from, Socreta; I'm still really young, and I don't have much experience with the Bible yet. But I think (or hope at least) that I'm getting there!

Actually... if one goes to bed a little early so they can get up a little earlier to spend some time with the Lord... the pay off will be so fabulous you'll wonder why you didn't do that befo now!

Proverbs 8:17
I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me

You're pretty cool, Rockrz
Well, I don''t about that... can old guys be cool???

Don't just get up at 5:00. Get up at five because you're going to get a chance to be alone with God. It makes all the difference.

I spend my quiet time talking to God mostly at night when i am in bed before i go to sleep.. I might spend some time in the day reading a passage of the Bible because everyday i come onto these forums and read the questions and so i always have something to think about and talk to God about before i go to sleep at nights.. I am not a morning person unfortunatly. It takes me about a half hour to an hour to wake up.. I assume that you being a teenager would not be a morning person either since during the teenage years a lot of people go through a stage of not being a morning person.. I guess i never grew up and am still a teen at heart :p

Anyway you have your relationship with Jesus and as long as you get some time each day with Him to read a chapter or two and talk with Him then it will help you have more peace of mind and help you grow in wisdom..

May you be blessed with both

Talk to God. Learn your own way through God. You and man might set you wrong, but God never will. Do your thing and listen to your heart. Believe in God, but Beware the teachings of man.

If you believe in Jesus' deity and his death and resurrection and have trusted that for your salvation then you are a Christian. It says in the bible if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, you will be saved. ( see Romans 10:9) You can't rely on feelings; feelings come and go. If you have trouble believing that you are saved( I don't know how many times I asked God to save me), then get someone, a mature Christian, to pray for you to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. That is something that helped me.

Hello - Satan will always keep you too busy for God and he will suggest those things are most important, if you are to be right with God. But there is always a quarrel between our common sense and the Revelations made in God's Book.

(Matthew 6:33): ....New American Standard Bible (NASB)

33 But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Remember the totality of the change in your life when you asked God into your life. You crossed over from death unto life and all things of the past are gone and all things become new. Thats huge...Think about it. You live by faith now in your spirit not your flesh any longer. Yet your flesh will fight not to die. So, don't believe the lie of satan that you must get rid of flesh, for His Word says it has been crucified with Christ on the Cross. But now that you are innocent by Jesus on the Cross, live a different life altogether, by way of the Holy Spirit seeking to your newly enlivened spirit. And let Him in you put to death the things of the flesh, as you set foot to it.

"Brothers and Sisters, in light of all I have shared with you about God's mercies, I urge you to offer your bodies as a living and holy sacrifice to God, a sacred offering that brings Him pleasure; this is your reasonable, essential worship. (Romans 12:1).

Just as a poet or an artist must keep his soul young on the right lines, so a Christian must keep the sense of God's call always awake. Spend plenty of time with God; let other things go, but don't neglect Him. And beware of practical work. We are not here to do work for God; we are here to be workers with Him, those thru whom He can do His work.

Repentance means a change of mind. Formerly, I thought sin as a pleasant thing, but now I have changed my mind about it. Formerly, I thought the world an attractive place, but now I know better. Formerly I regarded it miserable business to be a Christian, but now I think differently. Once I thought certain things delightful, now I think them vile. Once I thought other things utterly worthless, now I think them most precious. That is a change of mind, and that is repentance. Let Christ transform you into what He delights in giving you; which in time you will delight in.

We need to hear the Word, read the Word, Study and Apply the Word, Memorize the Word, and Meditate on the Word (each day). And Pray...And Fellowship...And Witness... You see this is your life blood to the blood that gave you life; namely Jesus Christ. Enjoy the relationship of love, there are joys and character building times for sure, but in the end you are a Child of God and an heir to the Kingdom of God.I suggest you set your priorities accordingly. May God Bless you!

I feel the same way too sometimes when I used to go to church (I don't anymore). I think it's sometimes normal to feel this way once in a while. Don't worry too much about it.

There's a reason it's called "faith", bro. Sometimes we can't feel it, that's ok. Keep praying and reading your Bible and you'll pull through. You've got God working with you, remember? I promise, it does get better :). The Christian life has a lot of ups and downs, and sometimes we have to pray "I believe! Help thou my unbelief." God sees, and He understands.
