I'm not especially religious. I believe Jesus died for me, etc. and I believe that God made the universe, but I'm also a scientific person. I keep copies of Stephen Hawking books in my bookdrawers, and I've done some research into various fields of science.

What I'm trying to get across here, is how openminded is the general Christian community? I understand that people don't like confiding in things non-Christian because they fear God and suppose that doing such things is sinful, but unless you open your mind and enhance your perspective of the world, how can you connect with so many other people?

How does a Muslim feel? A Buddhist? So many different ideals, morals, ethics, desires, perspectives, goals, and yet I feel that we don't even consider them. We consider ourselves elevated.

Look at Christianity from an Atheist perspective. They see Christianity as a bunch of folk tales, similar, in format, to Native American folklore (how the sun is made <-> how the world was made). Even if what they believe is wrong, their ideals should be considered! Why shouldn't we consider the opinions of the people around us? How many of you actually know that the 72 virgins thing isn't true for Islamic? How many of you know the concept of space-time, the curvature of space, and the Big Crunch? How many of you know the 8 steps to enlightenment?

What I'm saying is that there are SO MANY different ways to look at the world. Even if you follow one path, at least trying to UNDERSTAND what other people believe unlocks a new world of empathy, compassion, and understanding.

The Crusades, and every other "holy war", everything like that, is all started on religion's grounds. Theology has dominated and taken the lives of millions upon millions. Why is this? Because the other side is 'evil'? No. Because people choose not to understand each other. No religion (except Satanic religions) are truly 'evil', because even things like wicken, islamic, buddhism, hinduism, christianity, judaism, etc. all promote ideals for morals that human beings should follow in order to live happy lives. Why, then, do we only look on other religions or ideals with spite? Why does the general Christian community close their minds to the voices of the world?

Even though God warns against false prophets, and faltering from the path, why can't we strengthen our bonds with people by understanding them?

Please discuss.

i agree with everything youve said, even if you dont agree with something its good to understand why people believe what they do from their perspective.. THe truth is we dont like it when example if an athiest discounts what we beleive and our personal relationship with God. Everyones beleif system their thoughts and feelings is true to them even if it might be wrong.

I don't nessarly think that "we only look on other religions or ideals with spite" or "the general Christian community close their minds to the voices of the world." As with you, "openness" depends on the individual. Some people think that learning about specific doctrines isn't right while others believe that knowing the beliefs of others strengthens their own faith. But connecting with other people doesn't just come from understanding the differences but appreciating the similarities you share with them.

It's about connecting with people not their "religion."

What I'm about to suggest may seem a little bit... pushy, but I feel it's necessary.

Find a forum that has a wide variety of views. Odds are, they'll have religious discussion threads. Gaming sites, work sites, etc. It doesn't matter, as long as the discussions are vibrant with variety. Simply look at all the posts you can, and try to see how other people view the world. The longer you stay on this christian forum, the likelier it is that you won't want to even consider the people who aren't christians.

I'm a nerd, and I admit it. I go to this really cool site called Elements Forum. Religion

The link is to the Religion discussion thread. I ask that you take a look at all this. The amount of contributed effort by the community to voice their opinions have earned my deepest respect.

Why cannot you strengthen your bonds with them?

All things are not meant to be.

That is my simple, understanding of what the Lord's will is on earth.

Maybe they don't want to have a bond with you.
Or in you working to establish a bond, what will be the effect and result? Is it a worth your time and is it building something?

God cares about creation, not endless and meaningless pursuits, unless you need a time of self-discovery.

He cares about knowledge, and peace, and justice, but does this happen everywhere on earth, NO.

So, we all adapt the cultures and surroundings we are in.

God Bless with another human's, ME, wisdom, and thought in response to your concern.

I wish other Christians could be as open-minded as you
