Can't stand how many people don't like the use of "secular" music in worship. Can they not see that the church has to modify? Come on! Lyrics can be changed. My good friend and neighbor directed the choir at my church, and we always sang popular songs. Is there not a verse that says that this is okay, that ALL types of praise are accepted?

Would you sing, "Imagine there is no heaven"?

The bible speaks on worship, I suggest you start there rather than with personal opinions and desires.

I actually really like that song. I mean really, could you imagine if there were no religion of any kind? The world would be a much more peaceful place.

Even if there were only 1 religion. Would be nice.

Firstly, to be 'disgusted' with people over something like not wanting secular music in their praise and worship is a huge overreaction. I'm disgusted by pedophiles... rapists... and you're disgusted by people who are trying to maintain a level of righteousness and holiness. I see a problem right there.
Secondly, you're obviously only looking at this situation through your own personal WANTS and not giving consideration to any problems that could arise. You're disgusted because you want what you want, and you don't like that someone could disagree, yet you aren't considering why they might disagree.
The bible is clear, there are some areas that are grey. And in those grey areas each person is lead by their own personal conscience. Such as eating meat. Some people enjoy meat, some people won't touch it. Who's wrong? Neither one. God says if you think its ok to eat meat, go ahead, if you think its wrong to eat meat, don't. And also says you are not to look down on someone else's decision. A person who doesn't want to hear secular music may be prompted by the Holy Spirit to avoid it. Then you use this for 'praise and worship' now this person is going against the leading of the Holy Spirit by engaging in this form of secularized worship. And these are the people that disgust you. These people are following the Holy Spirit, or are trying their best to live as righteous and holy people. And you are disgusted by this.
Ever stop to consider that some people may not want to use secular music because they may have a hard time bypassing the secular version of the lyrics? Instead of being focused on worship, the original, secular wording is playing through their mind, distracting them.
I suggest learning to stop making what you want such a priority and spend more time thinking through things and giving other peoples points of views more consideration.

Agreed. Religion has great powers of separation and isolation as it creates the notion of "us" and "them".

Anytime there is a disagreeance, you create an "us vs. them" mentality. Atheism is not free of this.

True it does.

But how many Theist vs. Atheist wars have there been versus 1 religion vs. another?

Maybe I should change my answer. Imagine if everyone had a single religious outlook and belief structure.

I agree, but to a certain extent. Religion claims to offer ultimate truth and is dogmatic by nature; it is unifying. Atheism, on the other hand, is a mere rejection of these claims (Specifically the existence of a deity(s)). There is nothing unifying about atheism as there are no beliefs to defend or challenge.

My thing here is really old way vs new, i guess. I'm part of the young generation, who thinks that music is our defining trait. Maybe i'm selfish, but i won't give up my view. This is also one of my beefs with christianity- why if were all supposed to be brothers and siters in christ, why are there so many factions over stupid reasons. Why can't there be a definate yes and no. And fyi, we did sing imagine, and got a standing ovation (we skipped that verse, and nobody was the wiser.)

Ironic... you ask 'why are there so many factions over stupid reasons' but just before that you say 'this is my opinion and i am not changing it'. I mean i just gave you a legitimate argument against your opinion and all you have to say is 'oh well, i'm not changing'. Ever stop to think close minded, opinionated people may be a large cause of these kinds of 'factions'?
Also, i grew up thinking music was my defining trait as well. So thats nothing new, and not some special thing relegated only to your current generation. So thats not argument for this idea.
Again, the bible makes it clear, on matters of opinion, we are NOT to look down on another for their belief. Not even with disgust. Bottom Line.
