"Christianity is not about right or wrong?" I then I have to ask, is that right or wrong? In a Chrisitian mindset we percieve concepts in terms of right or wrong. Chrisitianity stands for absolute truth and declairs to the world what is right based on morals from what God says. Be careful with your wording. A relatavist would have taken that to mean you agree with him that it is impossible to find truth, but we know that the Bible holds truth and establishes standards of right and wrong. It is about what benefits others and a person often overlooks judgement through mercy and love.

It can be argued that masterbation does help someone. It can be said that it prevents someone from commiting fornication which clearly is in the Bible.

Masterbation is not clearly identified as a sin in the Bible. Some might argue that it falls in the category of sexual immorality which is in the Bible, but we really don't know, because it doesn't specify what that means.
i've masturbated thousand's of times before comming to Christ and not one time i've done it without thinking of women. And i don't think that a man can masturbate without thinking of women.

Yes it is... The bible forbids lust and masturbation is a result of lusting after something and yes, I was once in it, but through Christ am free... God bless

I agree....it's a sin!!!!

then you havn't been at the point where you were trying to quit lusting but still had a strong hormonal action. I'm bipolar and so my libito is sky high. I won't go into detail, but with a high libito, you don't need much or any stimulous. I'll be driven down the road thinking about my score on a math test...

You know in CVS were they have all these herbs to help people have more libito... well I need the opposite.

this thread got way out there, either way I kind of learned some important things that clearly people might not be willing to accept and may not even like but here goes:

not every single guideline and rule is in the bible, some parts were lost, others were not even included, and basically once you accept Jesus as Saviour I am very very sure that the holy spirit gives you some common sense, people say oh its not in the bible so it must not be a sin but there are clearly lots of places that talk about this even in the bible, just like how some people justify their smoking of pot by saying its not directly shown in the bible (but it is in the bible!) Clearly if this is you, consult Jesus because you might be a lover of pleasure more than God man, this is the truth, you got to do the right thing and stop it, no matter how vague this area seems.

Was it not written flee from youthful lusts and also abstain from the appearance of evil? I can understand if this was an accident because of some situation and you stumbled but later repented and stopped but yeah no this is quite a disputable antagonism and you know what, its really your choice but keep in mind scripture and in all honesty be true to yourself. A lot of people will attempt to twist scripture and this is not okay, sure we may be in grace but does that mean we should sin? NO paul talked about this in romans.

Yes. a man can masturbate without thinking about women. How? Just by doing it. That simple. Different guys have different amounts of libito. For some guys it doesn't take anything.

Here's my other opinion on this. Masturbation is having sex with yourself. You are not to have sex outside of marriage. That is a sin. So whatever you're doing outside of marriage sexually is considered a sin. If you know who Mark Driscoll is I suggest you start listening to his sermons on this type of subject/series he has been doing with his wife. Maybe go buy his book as well on this. It might give you a more clear idea on this subject on what his take is on it. In a real sense whatever you are doing sexually outside of marriage is hurting your future spouse.

A FEW REFERENCES FOR YOU...

Here are a few verses I found that 'may' apply to 'our' struggles with the flesh.
I have not thoroughly researched these references, they 'may' be out of context.
This is just a cursory posting for you.

There is a lot more scripture having to do with the flesh...

MAT 7:7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it
shall be opened unto you:

1JO 2:16 For all that [is] in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of
the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

MAT 5:28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her
hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

ROM 13:14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the
flesh, to [fulfil] the lusts [thereof].

GAL 5:17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the
flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the
things that ye would.

GAL 5:24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections
and lusts.

TIT 2:12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live
soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

TIT 3:3 For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived,
serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, [and]
hating one another.

1PE 2:11 Dearly beloved, I beseech [you] as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from
fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;

I hope this helps in your walk with the Lord,

Love,

J

God won't accept the excuse that you have a high sex drive as a reason to masturbate, or look at porn. Flee sin by whatever means necessary. God's power is greater than your sex drive!!!!! To say otherwise would be calling God a liar.

Matthew 5:28

"But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart."

I don't think you can masturbate without really lusting in your heart. So I think we have to say yes it is a sin.

It's hard to get the victory over this but you can by staying close to God, staying away from things that put sexual thoughts in your mind (movies, certain websites, etc.), and staying in fellowship with other Christians, and busy with work/school/etc. and also the things of God.

Also if you can get married soon (to a godly person) that helps a whole lot, since then your desires can be fulfilled in a godly manner :) (1 Cor 7:9)

But until then you have to stay close to God, cut out whatever causes you to stumble, and "not arouse or awaken love before it so desires":

Song 2:7

"Daughters of Jerusalem, I charge you
by the gazelles and by the does of the field:
Do not arouse or awaken love
until it so desires."
This is issue MUST not be undermined... Let's get right to it, first things first. Masturbation isn't addressed in the BIBLE, so there is no direct, definitive scripture that says the practice is right or wrong. BUT I am a guy so I know that it's NOT RIGHT. It is impossible to a man to figure out how to masturbate without any lustful fantasy, masturbation is technically a SIN.
You are a Christian??? Then you have to honor God with your body. We can't worship God while we still consider this M word as "NORMAL ACTIVITY". NOT all things that make us feel GOOD are GOOD.

Please let us help one another to live in purity as we bring glory to GOD!

We are the temple of the HOLY SPIRIT and we must take care of our body. You might not be aware that Masturbation creates distance from GOD. Do you still remember the times hmmm...earlier when you discovered how to do it? You felt the GUILT, right? That GUILT strongly proofs that it is a SIN.

You want to quit? Figure out first the causes. Set your defenses. Pray more fervently. The Holy Spirit will guide you.

SHALOM!

Romans 6:12-13

12Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts.

13 And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.

These verses might be a big help in understanding your situation.

God bless

Sorry if there is a better forum for this, but this seemed to be the main place where this topic is discussed:

My wife and I are not very sexually active but we love each other. She is just not a person who enjoys sex. As a man, I get sexual urges but I have been told that Biblicaly speaking that masturbation is wrong in the Lord's eyes. So is it wrong for me to masturbate if my wife is not a very sexual person if I am thinking about her?

Colossians 3
5Put to death therefore what is earthly in you:b sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 6On account of these the wrath of God is coming.c 7In these you too once walked, when you were living in them.

Galatians 5
19Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21envy,d drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Sensuality means :
1. The quality or state of being sensual or lascivious.
2. Excessive devotion to sensual pleasure.

sensual means: Of, relating to, given to, or providing gratification of the physical and especially the sexual appetites.

lascivious means:
1. Given to or expressing lust; lecherous.
2. Exciting sexual desires; salacious.

so we see that feeding our sexual desires and appetites in indeed a sin, as it is shown above those who do such things will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

Bottom line masturbation is a sin.

When you masturbate you are sowing to the flesh, you sow seeds and they grow, so you reap what you sow, if you sow to the flesh you will reap to your flesh, this is why you are seeing the desires getting stronger, we are to walk in the Spirit and not in the flesh, by walking in the Spirit we wont fulfill the desires of the flesh, i will pray for you sister, mortify the deeds of your flesh, repent and turn to Jesus.

Masturbation or any other sexual act falls under sexual immorality.

Only by the power of the Holy Spirit can you overcome and be set at liberty from this bondage, ask the Lord for the Holy Spirit, and to help you overcome this thing.

I use to be addicted to masturbation once upon a time, this was before i became a Christian, it was like the flesh had a mind of it's own but i'm free thanks be to Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior.

You cannot do this alone or in your power, it is by grace, and the power of the Holy Spirit.

Ok, to put it blatantly and in your face, studies have shown tugging on that thing can lead to depression.
Besides, I'd rather get married and do it the way the good lord wanted it to be.
Hi would masturbation with your wife be considered a sin? Please anyone. Thanks

The Bible only addresses this subject in one place, Genesis 38:9. In this case the sin was that Onan did not fulfill his duty of giving his sister-n-law, whose husband had died, a child. Other than that, then lust would be the issue. The Bible does not say that masturbation is a sin so, for us to say that it is a sin is making, ''man's law.''
