Is lying about doing something wrong still a bad thing, or is it a good thing that you had to lie about doing something wrong . . . ? Just remembered that bit from the movie "Easy A" and I could never actually find an answer. Was hoping you guys might help.

Still a bad thing. Lying is the biggest problem, what is lied about is secondary.

Matthew 22:38-40
"This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, You shall love your neighbour as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang ALL the law and the prophets.
It's construeable that observance of a lower law (that which hangs; e.g. lying), should not be used against the law of loving your neighbour as thyself.

One of the problems many people have is understanding that loving a neighbor as ourselves isn't speaking of a groundless statement of endless relativity. It is often misconstrued as such, unfortunately.

I can't think of any situation where lying about something you did wrong would make things better. Can you give an example?

nope, also lying itself is a burden on your conscience, its a terrible load to have and like my mom used to say, lies begin to stack on each other until the whole facade collapses.

better to be honest and sincere, and in all honesty, the more sincere you are, the more open you can be with other people and the more comfortable you are with yourself ANYWHERE (in public or at home), so you could go up to random strangers and talk if you really felt like it with more ease, and being around friends would feel less awkward internally.

Well, lets say you cheat on your wife once. She suspects something happened, and you lie to keep her from finding out. You already feel guilty and have repented, so why make her suffer at this point?
That is one way i can see people may think lying about something bad is good. Not saying a agree, just an idea.
