Is there a problem if you don't speak in tongues? Someone just explained to me that its a heavenly language that god gives to you in your spirit. I also found out its when you receive the holy spirit/ghost.

Is there a problem?
Do I not have the holy ghost within me?

Short answer:
No, there isn't a problem if you don't speak in tongues. There's a time for that, and you'll know when God prompts you to do it. And sometimes, you might need to do it if you don't know what to do in a situation. That's VERY general, though...

The gifts of the Holy Spirit are given to an individual to carry out the work of God.
The gentiles that got saved by Peter's preaching, spoke in tongues, as a sign to the Jews
that gentiles could be saved by accepting Jesus. A lot of the Jews had spoke in tongues
when saved, and when the gentiles did the same, they knew. When those gentiles were first
saved, it WAS a sign they were save because the Jewish only church at the time, had no idea
that God was going to save gentiles also. When the early church was spreading out, signs
were given to validate the person who came to tell of Christ Jesus and teach doctrine.
They didn't have the NT to fall back on. They may have had a letter written to them or two,
but many didn't. Now we have the Bible to validate whether a person is speaking truth.

Faith in Jesus Christ as spoken in the Bible is what saves a person. To speak in tongues
as a guarantee is like having a certificate hanging on the wall. You would begin to have faith
in that certificate. If you got to a point where you didn't speak in tongues anymore, then
you would beging to question whether you were still saved.

Anyone working for the Lord Jesus will be helped by the Holy Spirit to do the work. Any
manifestation of the Holy Spirit will be seen if the situation requires it. If the situation
doesn't require it, the Holy Spirit is still helping, it just isn't seen by others.

As Paul said, not everyone can be the foot, or be the eye, or be the hand. The Holy Spirit
helps the foot member be a foot and do the work of the foot, and likewise, the eye. But
each is given a task to do and given the Holy Spirit to help do the task.

There's absolutely nothing wrong! I don't speak in tongues either.

1 Corinthians 12:7-11: "Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines."

I don't have the gift of tongues, but I do have the gift of knowledge. Perhaps you have one of these gifts - or even one not mentioned here.

They may have been talking about something called the baptism of the Holy Spirit. In Acts 2 you will read of 120 people, including the apostles, praying when suddenly a great wind appears and tongues of fire appear over them. They experience the baptism of the Holy Spirit, where the Spirit overflows in them. This overflow is evidenced by speaking in tongues. Of course these people had the Spirit in them before the baptism, but it hadn't "overflowed" like it did there. Don't worry, you're still saved. You're not faulty for not speaking in tongues.

You don't have to speak in tongues to have the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost is like the spirit form of God.

Mark 16:15-18
15 He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.
16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues;
18 they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well."
(NIV)

It's a sign that you are a believer but I do not believe you have to speak in tongues to be saved.

Paul said it's a sign you have the Holy Spirit. I believe you can speak in tongues anytime. But if you don't, that doesn't mean you don't have the Holy Spirit.

There's no problem at all. I do not speak in tongues. The Lord and I can talk to each other in English/Filipino pretty well. And again, speaking in tongues is a gift received by special people. There should also be interpreters around when this is being performed or else it can only be an act. Don't be intimidated by it.
