Is there a problem if you don't speak in tongues? Someone just explained to me that its a heavenly language that god gives to you in your spirit. I also found out its when you receive the holy spirit/ghost.
Is there a problem?
Do I not have the holy ghost within me?
The gifts of the Holy Spirit are given to an individual to carry out the work of God.
The gentiles that got saved by Peter's preaching, spoke in tongues, as a sign to the Jews
that gentiles could be saved by accepting Jesus. A lot of the Jews had spoke in tongues
when saved, and when the gentiles did the same, they knew. When those gentiles were first
saved, it WAS a sign they were save because the Jewish only church at the time, had no idea
that God was going to save gentiles also. When the early church was spreading out, signs
were given to validate the person who came to tell of Christ Jesus and teach doctrine.
They didn't have the NT to fall back on. They may have had a letter written to them or two,
but many didn't. Now we have the Bible to validate whether a person is speaking truth.
Faith in Jesus Christ as spoken in the Bible is what saves a person. To speak in tongues
as a guarantee is like having a certificate hanging on the wall. You would begin to have faith
in that certificate. If you got to a point where you didn't speak in tongues anymore, then
you would beging to question whether you were still saved.
Anyone working for the Lord Jesus will be helped by the Holy Spirit to do the work. Any
manifestation of the Holy Spirit will be seen if the situation requires it. If the situation
doesn't require it, the Holy Spirit is still helping, it just isn't seen by others.
As Paul said, not everyone can be the foot, or be the eye, or be the hand. The Holy Spirit
helps the foot member be a foot and do the work of the foot, and likewise, the eye. But
each is given a task to do and given the Holy Spirit to help do the task.
