It's me, I have no money. I got an alert this morning telling me that my checking account had gone under 25 dollars.

And my girlfriend wants to go prom/expects me to take her on dates 2-3 times a week.

I was thinking about trying to get a job at Starbucks. Do any of you guys have advice?

In some cities they have places where the girl can pick out her own prom dress (decent ones) for free. At least in my city they do that at least. Or they do the whole rent thing, seeing as the girls usually only wear them once. During prom of course haha.

As far as needing more money, well it all depends on what you would like to do. Their are a lot of great jobs out there, even if you're just looking for the famous "short time". As people have mentioned, Target is a great place to work. They have some of the best health care around, and are great for college students.

Or if you like to help people, then Build A bear workshop has good benefits as well as pay also. Usually found inside local malls and what not. You even get holidays such as your birthday and the day off paid for and off. Not a bad deal! =). Again it's not a job for life, but it helps bring in the money. Wish you luck in whatever you decide!

Well aren't you in a good mood.
-----
To johnxxx, make a resume, include things such as school activities, volunteering, etc. And for each group, describe what you did. If you have had a job in the past, then include past employment. Also, try and get 3 or 4 references. If you been nice to your teachers, good place to start.

Outside of Starbucks, you might try newspaper delivery (unless you have to be above a certain age), mowing lawns, baby sitting, house sitting, dog walking, working at a grocery store. Etc. All of these are good places to start.

You clearly have a lot of problems in your life, which make you a vindictive, and largely antisocial personality type. While most would find your passive aggressive way of dealing with problems to be rather infantile, I hold nothing against you.

I'll pray for you.

what skills or interest do you have?

I don't think working in Starbucks for the rest of your life sounds appealing either, at least it doesn't to me but hey if it makes you happy, someone has to do it....

Personally I was going to say, ditch the girlfriend, focus on school/ college and saving up money for your wife and future family instead of spending it on endless dates. Money and things won't make her happy, they are just temporary fills. (then I deleted it because i thought it might sound too mean or self righteous or something... i was having a rough day and I don't think I worded it diplomatically)

I think we should all first seek the Kingdom of God and all else will be added to you.

What do you think God would like for you to do with your life?

what Skills has God given you that others appreciate enough to pay you to do?

so in turn you can buy food, save for a house, etc.

Matthew 6
25 “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?

28 “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; 29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

When it says "seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness" it doesn't mean be a lazy bum and do nothing, but in prayer ask God what His will is and strive to do good in the world so that He might be glorified by your good works. Find ways to allow His light to shine in you, ways you can show love and care and concern about Heavenly things such as compassion, love, joy, peace, kindness, goodness, self control. Seek to understand His Word and His will and allowing the Holy Spirit to conform your heart to His.

I also need money for things like a car, going out in general, etc. I was actually thinking about it a little more, and thought I might try and get a job as a receptionist in a bank or something like that. That way when I go through college, I'll pretty much have a job at that company. (I'd like to work in finance)

I'm not going to "ditch" my girlfriend though, she is very much the most important part of my life. I have aspirations to become something, to be wealthy even. But all of this is so that I can support somebody that I love very much. Maybe it's teen love, maybe it's just worthless infatuation. It feels real to me though, and so she stays.

I'll take that over what i see in you, or rather don't see. But i still see my point was made. You don't mind treating others that way, but you sure don't like getting it in return. So all things considered, i'm content now.

yes I figured you won't ditch the girlfriend but if she's worth anything she will understand if you try and save money for important things and not use it all on dates and temporal things.

I'm married we go out on dates about once a month if we're lucky. Dates don't have to cost anything but a little be of time and forethought.

I always thought it more important to spend time together. When we were first married we had a very small budget but that doesn't mean we didn't make it work with what we had and blessed God for it.

People should stick with you even if you have nothing to give them but love.

I'm glad petty revenge makes you content. I hope when I'm in my 30's I too will be able to find amusement in what most would consider childish/trivial actions.
